DONALD A. NELSON
ENFIELD - Donald Albert Nelson, 62, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Astori, Oregon, December 28, 1936, the son of the late Ralph Albert Nelson and Lucille Nelson Smith.
Mr. & Mrs. Nelson was a resident of Emerald Isle, as well as, Enfield.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma F. Nelson of the home; son, Ralph William Nelson of Raleigh; daughters, Denice Keeter of Rocky Mount, Deborah Nelson of Raleigh, Dona "Katie" Locke of Enfield; grandchildren, John Richard Locke, William Nelson Locke, both of Enfield, Addie Dow Keeter, Katherine Harrison Keeter, both of Rocky Mount; several nieces and nephews, all of Bend Oregon.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 1999, at Episcopal Church of the Advent Holly Communion. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Enfield.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 North Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount and other times at the home, 304 West Whitfield, Enfield.

PAULINE S. "POLLY" TAYLOE
RALEIGH - Pauline Shields "Polly" Tayloe, 76, died Wednesday, June 16, 1999. A graveside memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 1999, at the Aulander, N.C. Cemetery.
Born in Aulander, she was the daughter of Langley and Ruth Cooke Tayloe. Polly held teaching positions in Washington High School, Washington, NC, and Raleigh's Hugh Morrison and Broughton High Schools. She was Librarian at Ahoskie High School in Ahoskie and Enloe High School in Raleigh from its opening date until her retirement in 1982. After retirement, she volunteered at the Museum of History in Raleigh. She was active in the Delta Kappa Gamma Soroity.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mary Williford in Aulander after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the local Hospice Chapter or to the giver or to the Hospice Foundation of America, 777 17th Street, #401, Miami Beach, FL 33139.
JEREMY BRANDON TILLIS
WENDELL - Jeremy Brandon Tillis, 18, of 2804 Spenrue Drive, died Monday, June 21, 1999 due to an automobile accident. Jeremy was a student and a part-time trim carpenter. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, Knightdale. Burial, Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Zebulon.
Surviving: parents, Thomas Toutant and Susan Mollohan Toutant; father, Charles Randall Tillis of Charleston, WV; brother, Bryan Scott Mollohan of Clayton; maternal grandparents, Ruth and Walter Mollohan of Clendenin, WV; several aunts and uncles.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home of Thomas and Susan Toutant, 2804 Spenrue Drive, Wendell, NC 27591.

DANIEL JOSHUA "D.J." WALKER JR.
GRAHAM - Mr. Daniel Joshua "D.J." Walker, Jr., 83, formerly of Long Ave., Graham, NC and presently resides at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, Mebane, NC died Mon., June 21, 1999 at 11:22 p.m. at Alamance Regional Medical Center, Burlington.
He is the husband of Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Nicholson Walker who survives and the son of the late D.J. Walker, Sr. and the late Annie Hurdle Walker. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington.
Survivors other than his wife of the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields includes two sisters, Mrs. Annie Hurdle Walker Reynolds of Greenwood, SC and Mrs. Rebecca Walker Shepherd of Edenton, NC and nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, Friday, June 25, 1999 at 11 a.m. The Committal Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Pine Hill Cemetery, Friday morning prior to the service.
The family will be at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
DWAIN THOMAS YARBROUGH
CASTALIA - Dwain Thomas Yarbrough, 50, died Monday, June 21, 1999 in Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday from the Castalia Church of God conducted by the Rev. Michael Abbott. Burial will follow in the Yarbrough family cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Evelyn Yarbrough; son, Johnny Yarbrough of Castalia; stepson, Billy Longson of Pilot; stepdaughters, Lisa Pittman of Seven Paths, Lauri Piper and Lorna Piper, both of Franklinton; parents, Arthur and Melba Yarbrough of Youngsville; sisters, Louise Wilder of Seven Paths, Hazel Bullock of Franklinton, Margaret Wiggins, Janette Wiggins and Shelia Fenton, all of Youngsville; brother, Harvey Yarbrough of Reidsville; 10 grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Lancaster Funeral Home, Louisburg.
JOHN W. DAVIS JR.
RALEIGH - John W. Davis, Jr., 77, died Friday, January 22, 1999 at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. A native of Wake Co., Mr. Davis co-founded Quality Sales Company in 1951 and in 1961 co-founded Eastern Parts Distributors. In 1979, he was inducted into the North Carolina Automotive Hall of Fame and the International Automotive Hall of Fame in 1986. A member of Crabtree Valley Baptist Church, he was an avid gardener, herbalist and cookbook author. Mr. Davis was a Mason, Shriner and veteran of WWII, serving for seven years in the US Army.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crabtree Valley Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Brad Ferguson and Dr. Roy Smith. Entombment will follow in the Restlawn Memorial Garden Mausoleum.
Surviving are his wife, Coralene Rowland Davis; son and daughter-in-law, John W. Davis, III and Linda B. Davis of Raleigh; brothers, Leo H. Davis of Fuquay-Varina, Bobby Davis of Raleigh; sisters, Elizabeth Lewter, Jewel Engle, Shelby Johnson all of Fuquay-Varina; and a granddaughter, Suzanne Davis.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday evening at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave. (Hwy 70), Raleigh.
WADE C. (CHIP) LEWIS III
Sept. 11, 1947 - Jan. 21, 1999
RALEIGH - Chip Lewis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade C. Lewis, Jr., died from a massive heart attack, while in Cincinnati, Ohio on business.
He is survived by his wife, Wylene; his son, Christopher, director of Camp Cheerio in N.C.; and his daughter, Sara, a junior at Indiana University. Their home is in Elkhart, Indiana, where Chip was employed by Goshen Rubber Company, as Vice President of Human Resources. His brother, Dale who has spent most of his adult life in the bush country of Zambia, Africa, is on the staff of N.Y. Zoological Society, serving as a wildlife conservationist.
Chip began the game of golf at age seven, after a bout with Polio. As the years rolled by he continued his love of the game making a name for himself in junior golf tournaments played throughout the southeastern states. He played on Broughton High golf team, and later entered Wake Forest University on a golf scholarship. While still an amateur he played in the U.S. Open and followed that by turning professional. His first job as a pro did little to stimulate his long-term interest in golf, and after a few short years he gave up his professional status and finally regained his amateur standing.
Other survivors include Mr. and Mrs. Edwin E. Flythe, and their son, Skip, who, on numerous occasions played with Chip when participating in member-guest tournaments at Carolina Country Club in Raleigh, N.C. Also, Walter F. Lewis of Topsail, N.C. and Walter F. Lewis, Jr. of Raleigh.
A memorial service will be held at St. Michaels Episcopal Church on Wednesday, January 27, 1999 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Y.M.C.A. RALEIGH - Eloise Baldwin Weaver, 69, of 2809 Slippery Elm Drive, died Thursday, January 21, 1999.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Matthews Chapel Holiness Church, 1516 Montrose St. Interment will follow in the Carolina Biblical Gardens.

GEORGE R. BENNETT
LILLINGTON - Mr. George R. Bennett, 73, of Lillington, died at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Durham on Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999. He was a son of the late James G. and Lula Wade Bennett and a Veteran of World War II.
Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday at O'Quinn-Peebles Chapel. Rev. Rick Jefferds and Rev. Robert West. Burial, Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier.

LUCY B. BLUM
HILLSBOROUGH - Lucy Blount Blum of Cedar Grove, North Carolina, died Sunday, January 24, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late William and Jesse Myers Blount.
She is survived by her children, Marcia Blum Compton of Cedar Grove, Libby Blum Dickerson of Greensboro, M. Drew Blum of Hillsborough and a sister Madeline Blount of New York. She had eight grandchildren.
Mrs. Blum was born on October 23, 1932 at Watts Hospital. She was a graduate of Bennett College in New York. Returning to Durham after living several years in New York City, her career included positions as the secretary at Saint Mary's Country Day School in Hillsborough, secretary at St. Stephen's Church in Durham and most recently as an executive secretary at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish where she was actively involved in the church choir as well as a teacher in the Children's Faith Formation Program for 11 years. Mrs. Blum was a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels Program and the American Red Cross. She was also a member of the Durham Junior League, Durham Debutante Ball Society and the Hope Valley Country Club.
Her life was characterized by loving devotion to her family and grandchildren, unselfish service to her church and community and generous dedication to her friends.
The family will receive friends and visitors 7-9 p.m. Tuesday evening, January 26, at the funeral home and other times at 1002 Hurdle Mills Road, Cedar Grove, at the home of Marcia and Vaughn Compton.
A Mass celebrating her life will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 1999 at Immaculate Conception Church in Durham.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to the Meals on Wheels Program of Durham or the American Red Cross.

EDWARD C. BODENHEIMER SR.
RED SPRINGS - Edward Charles Bodenheimer Sr., 85, of 407 Malboro Ave., of Red Springs, NC died Saturday at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital. He was born to the late Charles A. and Bette Farmer Bodenheimer on January 10, 1914 in Wymonia, SC. Mr. Bodenheimer was preceded in death by a son, Edward Charles Bodenheimer Jr., and a granddaughter, Margaret Myers Bodenheimer. Mr. Bodenheimer was a graduate from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1938 with a degree in Commerce. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.A member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Red Springs; owner and operator of Bodenheimer Furniture Company in Red Springs and Powers Furniture Company in Saint Pauls before retiring at the age of 81. Mr. Bodenheimer was a member of the Educational Foundation of University of North Carolina, Red Springs Lions Club, Masonic Lodge #501, Past President of the Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Board with Flora MacDonald Academy.
Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, Trinity United Methodist Church. Reverend Dr. Jo Ann Oulton. Burial, Alloway Cemetery.

KAREN E. BOUREY
RALEIGH - Karen E. Bourey, 39, of Raleigh, passed away Saturday, January 23, 1999 after an extended illness. Karen was born in Plattsburgh, New York and had resided in Raleigh since 1991.
Surviving are her husband Peter L. Bourey of the home; a daughter, Marlee Bourey of the home; her parents, Robert and Mary Norris of Goldsboro; two brothers, Robert Norris, Jr. of Colchester, CT and David Norris of Plattsburg, NY; a sister, Kim Person of England; and her grandmother, Margaret Preston of Plattsburgh, NY.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road.

MIDDLESEX - Mozelle Cockrell, of 3314 Old Nash Road, Middlesex, died Sunday at Wilson Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday at Spring Hope Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Hopkins officiating. Burial, Middlesex Town Cemetery.
Surviving: husband, Carl Junior Cockrell of the home; three daughters, Sue Gayle Fowler of Middlesex, Gloria Carroll of Knightdale, Connie Whitley of Myrtle Beach, SC; one son, Clifton Whitley of Fuquay-Varina; four sisters, Dillie Boykin of Spring Hope, Minnie Scott of Norlina, Winnie Glover of Warrenton, Elizabeth Winstead of Kenly; one brother, Monroe Hopkins of Spring Hope; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

RUTH SAUNDERS CROOM
RALEIGH - Ruth Saunders Croom of 6 Springmoor Drive, died January 23, at Springmoor's Stewart Health Center, following several debilitating strokes.
She is survived by her husband, Milton M. Croom, of Springmoor; sisters, Mrs. Rodney L. (Flora) Warner of Raleigh, Mrs. A.F. (Emma) Prosperi of Gettysburg, Pa., and Mrs. D.R. (Mary) George of Salt Lake City, UT; sisters-in-law, Mrs. M.M. (Berta Lee) Saunders of Delco, N.C., Elizabeth Croom of Raleigh; brother-in-law, Clyde W. Croom of Knightdale; and a number of nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews scattered across the United States.
While her husband was serving in the US Navy, she was employed by N.C. State University.
Mrs. Croom, a member of West Raleigh Presbyterian Church, was active in the Raleigh Woman's Club and served as a volunteer docent at the Museum of Art. She was a member of the O"Henry Book Club and the Raleigh Garden Club.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road. Burial will be at Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
