Della Rose Lee Staton, 79, of the Battleboro community, died on Friday, Jan. 25, 2008 at Tarboro Nursing Center in Tarboro.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Tarboro with the Elder Robert Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
A viewing will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Hemby-Willoughby Mortuary in Tarboro.
Survivors include one son, Phillip Staton Jr. of Rocky Mount; five daughters, Mary Herring of the home, Iris Weeks and Linda White, both of Raleigh, Sylvia Dudley and Hope Phillips, both of Rocky Mount; a sister Lillie Redmonds of Waldorf, Md.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

VIVIAN WELLS ABRAMS
Vivian Wells Abrams, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Carlisle Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Abrams Family Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters; Betty Parker and Evelyn Braswell, both of Rocky Mount, and Martha Barnette of Charlotte; one son; James Roy Abrams of Pinetops; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Carlisle Funeral Home and other times at the home at 103 S. Vann St. in Pinetops.

Fred Shields, 79, of Scotland Neck, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 at Our Community Hospital in Scotland Neck.

CALLIE MAE KNIGHT SUGGS
Callie Mae Knight Suggs, 77, of Tarboro, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with her son, the Rev. William Suggs, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Batts Chapel Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Suggs Sr. of the home; two daughters, Patricia Hinton of Tarboro, and the Rev. Lena Spragley of the home; two sons, Robert Lee Suggs Jr. of Tarboro, and the Rev. William Suggs of Rocky Mount; a brother, John Batts III of Princeville; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

J.H. "Pudding" Gardner
J.H. "Pudding" Gardner died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pinetops United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kris Williams officiating.
He is survived by his niece, Josie Gardner Strickland of Pinetops; his nephew, Jim "Bit" Gardner and wife, Renda, of Pinetops; three great-nephews, Kendall Strickland, Jim Gardner and Doug Gardner, all of Pinetops; and a special friend, Tommy Gardner of Pinetops.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Pinetops United Methodist Church.

Mary Jackson Saunders, 79, of Tarboro died Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Heritage Hospital in Tarboro.

DOLLIE MACON HOLDING
GREENSBORO -- Mrs. Dollie Macon Holding, 80, formerly of Laurinburg, died October 4, 1999 at the Masonic & Eastern Star Home.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Wake Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery in Wake Forest by Rev. Larry Coleman.
Mrs. Holding was born December 27, 1918 in Wake Co., the daughter of Henry Lee and Minnie West Macon.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, member in good standing of the Eastern Star for 50 years in the Charlie Muse Chapter, Lioness Club, VFW Auxillary, and many other senior citizen activities in Laurinburg.
She had lived in Laurinburg for over 55 years before entering the Masonic & Eastern Star Home in Greensboro in December, 1998.
Mrs. Holding was preceded in death by her husband, James Claude Holding, Sr. and her great-grandson, Wesley Scott Holding.
Surviving is a daughter, Valorie Holding Forbes and her husband, Dew of Beaufort; son, James C. Holding Jr. and wife, Linda of Benbrook, TX; grandchildren, Gregory Scott Holding of Austin, TX, Lisa Holding Johnson and husband, Andrew Paul Johnson of Benbrook, TX; one great-grandson, Jordan Paul Johnson of Benbow, TX.
The family will receive 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Bright Funeral Home in Wake forest.

JOHN L. IRBY
CHARLOTTE -- John Lewis Irby, age 84, of Charlotte, died Monday, October 4, 1999 at Sunnybrook Health Center in Raleigh.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 7, at University City United Methodist Church with Reverend Chuck Wilson and Reverend Paul Craig officiating.
Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hankins and Whittington - Dilworth Chapel.
Mr. Irby was born October 4, 1915, the son of the late John L. Irby and Elizabeth Dominey Irby.
He was a member of University City United Methodist Church. Mr. Irby was also a graduate of Technical High School and served in the US Navy.
He was the Superintendent of the Randolph Station of the US Postal Service when he retired after a 31 year career.
Mr. Irby was a avid golfer and a member of the first American Legion Baseball Team in Charlotte.
He was also an umpire for High School and American Legion baseball in the 1950's.
Mr. Irby is survived by his wife, Virginia; two sons, James L. Irby and his wife, Sharon of Raleigh and Robert L. Irby of Charlotte; a brother, Preston Irby of Charlotte; two sisters, Lois Beaver and Juanita Cadieu, both of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Shelli Irby, James L. Irby Jr., Robin Payne and Doug Irby.
