Brigitte Elizabeth Finley
Little baby girl, Brigitte Elizabeth Finley, born February 5, 2005 at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC died February 5, 2005.
Her parents Crystallana and John Finley of Asheville and her twin baby sister, Kimberly Alisha Finley, will always look at heaven differently now because God is holding our little baby girl until we all can be together again as a family.
She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Paul and Junie Cook, paternal great grandfather, Wilford Renshaw and Aunt, Alisha McNeely Burns.
Surviving are maternal grandparents, Elaine and Ronnie Gilbert of Morganton, paternal grandparents, Judy and Wayne Rich of Ashevillle, maternal great grandmother, Rachel L. McNeely of Morganton and paternal great grandmother, Elsie Renshaw of Greensboro, NC; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A private graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M.Monday at Burke Memorial Park with Reverend Allen Fredell presiding. The family will be at the home of Rachel C. McNeely, 1475 Watermill Road in Morganton.
Services are under the direction of Kirksey Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Morganton.
Mrs. Mary Tester Earp
Mrs. Mary Tester Earp, 90, of Nebo, died Sunday, December 7th at her residence. She was born September 2, 1913 in Watauga County and was daughter of the late Jake and Elizabeth Ward Tester.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Andrew Earp and daughter, Kathleen Smith.
Mrs. Earp was a homemaker and a member of Bible Tabernacle in Ruth, NC.
She is survived by a son, Roger Earp and wife Debbie of Hickory; daughters, Margaret E. Randolph and husband, Truett, of Nebo; Marie E. Miller and husband, Sam, of Morganton; brother, Bynum Tester of Valdese; sisters, Rosie Keller of Lenoir; Edith Ward of Boone and Carrie Knight of North Wilkesboro; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at El Bethel Baptist Church with the Reverends Dan Daisley and Scott Smith officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Roscoe Edward “Shorty” Parker, Jr.
Mr. Roscoe Edward “Shorty” Parker, Jr., 49, of Black Mountain, died, Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at the VA Medical Center, Asheville.
Born January 9, 1955, in McDowell County, he was a son of Roscoe E. Parker, Sr. and Darlene Kelly Parker, both of Old Fort. Mr. Parker was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He was an avid gardener and loved his cat, “Missy”.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Parker is also survived by three brothers, Steve Parker, of Morganton, Ronald Parker and Earl Parker, both of Old Fort; two sisters, Gwendolyn Parker, of Old Fort and Robin Batts, of Greenville, NC; a special friend, David McKinney, of Black Mountain several nieces and nephews also survive Mr. Parker.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Mr. Parker’s life will be held 2:00PM, Thursday, March 25, 2004, in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Old Fort, with Father Morris Boyd as Celebrate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Parker’s memory to the Cat Care Clinic of Asheville, 640 Merrimon Ave., Asheville, NC 28804 or to the charity of one’s choice.
Clara Kathleen “Kat” Byrd
Clara Kathleen “Kat” Byrd, 78, of Old Fort, passed away, Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Mission Hospital, St. Joseph Campus. Born May 10, 1926, in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late John Cleveland Byrd and the late Molly Freeman Byrd.
She is survived by two nieces, Kay Hamby Swann, of Black Mountain and Beverly Mills, of Old Fort; one nephew, Billy Medford, of Old Fort. Ms. Byrd is also survived by 9 great-nieces and nephews and 14 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Ms. Byrd will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, February 12, 2005, at Kirksey Funeral Home in Old Fort, with the Reverend Frank Cantrell officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethlehem Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Services at the funeral home chapel in Old Fort.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of McDowell County, 218 Logan Street, Marion, NC 28752.

Mrs. Elizabeth “Lib” Walker Butler Waller
Mrs. Elizabeth “Lib” Walker Butler Waller, 87, of Butler Street in Glen Alpine died Monday , July 7, 2003 at her residence. Born January 13, 1916 in Burke County she was the daughter of the late William Samuel Butler and Alice Walker Butler. The youngest member and last surviving member of her family she was preceded in death by : her husband Richard T. Waller ; daughter Elizabeth “Betty “ Waller Myers; brothers William Earl Butler , James Edward Butler, A. Leon Butler, Charles A. Butler and a sister Lorine “Renie” B. Litaker .
Mrs. Waller was a member of the Glen Alpine First United Methodist Church where she attended the Inspirational Group. A teacher for forty one years , she had retired from the Burke County School System having taught at the Morganton Primary School and the second grade at the Glen Alpine Elementary School. She was a pass member of the Retired Teachers Association and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by : two grandsons Bradford Myers of Cincinnati Ohio , Christopher Myers of Louisville Kentucky ; son-in-law Allan D. Myers of Gainesville Virginia and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM , Thursday July 10, 2003 at the Glen Alpine First United Methodist Church with the Reverends Frank Gordon and Thomas Beall Jr. officiating . Burial will follow at the Glen Alpine Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Waller.

Mrs. Wanda Brinkley Greene
Mrs. Wanda Brinkley Greene, 79, of Marion, died, Monday, December 8, 2003, at the McDowell Nursing Center, Nebo.
Born June 29, 1924, in Bristol, VA, she was reared in Mitchell County by her parents, the late Clarence Hardin Brinkley and Bessie Collins Brinkley. Mrs. Greene was a homemaker.
Mrs. Greene is survived by a son, Douglas Greene, and wife Phyllis, of Boone, NC; a daughter, Sue Greene Price, and husband Dennis, of Marion; a brother, Kenneth Brinkley, and wife Sue, of Fletcher, NC; a sister, Vivian Charles, of Riedsville, NC; Three grandchildren, Gina Dillard, Christa McKinney and Cass McKinney; Two great-grandchildren, Kyndal and Nathaniel; She is also survived by two nieces, Jan and Cathy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Mrs. Greens memory to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park Building 1, Asheville, NC 28801.

Mr. Paul Lenoard Mull, Sr.
Mr. Paul Leonard Mull, Sr. , 83, of Denton’s Chapel Road died Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at the V. A. Medical Center in Swannanoa after an extend illness. Born May 28, 1920 in Burke County he was the son of the late Raymond Mull and Flora Mull. He was preceded in death by a brother Theron Mull and a sister Faye M. Scaduto.
Mr. Mull was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Navy and he had retired from the Civil Service. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Morganton.
He is survived by: his wife Willa Mae Mull of the home; son Paul Lenoard Mull Jr. of Canyon Lake, Texas; step-sons Major A. Buff III , Roy L. Buff, Larry F. Buff, Jimmy Q. Buff all of Morganton; daughter- in –law Connie Mull of Philadelphia Pennsville; grandchildren Rebecca Mull and Suzanne M. Slaney of Denver Colorado ; step grandchildren Tammy Farris, Adrienne Mengani, Tonya Buff, Lucas Buff, Katie Buff, Brandi Buff and Nikki Patton; two step great grandchildren Emily Farris and Tanner Patton ; niece Phyllis Scaduto and nephews Frank Scaduto and Brent Mull.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 26, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverend Jerry Gamble officiating. Entombment will follow at the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends one prior to the services at Kirksey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kitty Sue Franklin Cobb
Mrs. Kitty Sue Franklin Cobb, 81, of Morganton went home to be with her Lord on Monday, February 14, 2005. She was born in Burke County on June 19, 1923 to the late Robey Edward Franklin and Cora Wilson Franklin. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: her husband, Albert Guy Cobb, brothers, Lewis and Arthur Franklin; sisters, Mattie Franklin and Mary Lou Franklin Crump.
She was a lifelong member of Hopewell Baptist Church where she was a member of the Betty Carroll Circle. She was also a Delegate for the WMU and a former member of the Home Extension Club. She and her late husband, Guy, were former members of Burke County REACT and enjoyed a membership in a CB club.
She is survived by her daughter, Mildred Cobb Johnson of Morganton, brother, Luther A. Franklin and wife Frances, of Morganton, sisters, Dorothy F. McCall and Betty F. Ross both of Morganton; Ida F. Bell of Calhoun, GA; grandchildren, Traci Harris and husband, Jeff; Tommy Johnson and wife, Connie all of Morganton and Christie Johnson of Loudon, TN; 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, at Hopewell Baptist Church with Reverends Homer Murdock, Jerry Gamble and David Orders presiding. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday 1 hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.

Julia Jane Devenport
Julia Jane Devenport, age 78, of 18 McKenzie Way South, Old Fort, NC, died Friday, July 1, 2005 at her residence.
Born in McKinney ,Texas to the late Roy F. Saunders and Lillian Netson Saunders, she was a retired teacher from the Dallas and Amarillo, Texas school system. She was very active in sports during high school and college as a cheerleader as was her twin brother, Bud Saunders, who was well-known in football. “Bud” has preceded her in death.
Surviving Mrs. Devenport are her husband of 55 years, Loyd V. Devenport of the home; one son, Loyd Kyle Devenport of Black Mountain, NC; two daughters, Debra Dian Devenport of Lincoln, Ca. and Donna Pat Gupton of McAlester, Ok.; six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date by Kirksey Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
