Mrs. Stella Pitoniak

Maria Mentavlos Holcombe, age 57, of Jamestown passed away Friday June 18, 2004 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday June 22, 2004 at Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church at 800 Westridge Rd. with Father Dennis officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 PM at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia NC with Father Steve Dalber officiating.

Maria was born on January 15, 1947 in Gastonia NC. She was a graduate of Lees McCrae College in Banner Elk NC, and Baptist Memorial in Memphis TN. She recently retired from Wesley Long Hospital after 30 years of service as an Associate Director of Medical Records. She was an expert in antiques and home decorating. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother and sister. Maria had a very special and close loving relationship with her family. She had many close and loving friends throughout her lifetime.

Maria is survived by her husband Thomas S. Holcombe of the home, sons Matthew S. Holcombe of Greensboro, and Thomas C. Holcombe of the home, and Father George N. Mentavlos of Jamestown. She is also survived by brother Nick Mentavlos and wife Marian G. of Charlotte, sister Tula Collias and husband George of Bluffton SC, brother John Mentavlos and wife Marian F. of Charleston SC., nieces and nephews Chris and Stephanie Collias, George and Michael Mentavlos, and Jean Mentavlos Davis, and her close friend Teresa Garner. Maria is preceded in death by mother Jean P. Mentavlos, and grand parents John and Marie Petchios.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Monday, June 21, 2004 at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home Guilford Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Greek Orthodox Church at 800 Westridge Rd. Greensboro NC, 27410, or The American Cancer Society at 4-A Oak Branch Dr. Greensboro, NC 27407.

Mr. Henry Clay Settle

Mr. Henry "Hank" Settle died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Forbis & Dick, North Elm Chapel. Interment will follow in Westminster Gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Jane W. Settle of the home; sons, Stephen C. Settle of New Holstein, WI and Leonard W. Settle of Charlotte, NC; brother, Newton H. "Jack" Settle of Westminster, MD; sister-in-law, Florence W. Jones of Greensboro, NC; grandson, Jesse C. Settle of Madison, WI; granddaughters, Erin J. Settle of Milwaukee, WI, Devin M. Settle of New Holstein, WI and Heather W. Winters of Chicago, IL. He has 2 nephews, 4 nieces, 2 grand nephews, 9 grand nieces, 4 great grand nephews, 5 great grand nieces and 1 great great grand niece.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30PM Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Jay Queen

Mr. Jay Queen, 66, of Winston-Salem formerly of Greensboro, died Friday June 18, 2004, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 pm, today June 20, at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel.

Jay was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and was deeply devoted to his family. He was a 16 year Navy Veteran and was Sales Director at Keystone Homes.

He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed traveling. Jay was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his mother Edith Queen and grandparents Rans and Dora Queen.

Surviving are his wife Brenda Clark Queen, of the home; daughter, Teresa Queen, of Burlington; step-sons, Joe Wood, and wife Jeanette, of Cameron, NC, Ray Wood, and wife Ashley, of Winston-Salem; step-sister, Macy Brooks, of Shelby, NC; uncle, Joe Queen, of Ellijay, GA; aunt, Lucy Rogers, of Murphy, NC; grandchildren, Jason Queen, Bobby Ballance, Candice Ashby and step-grandchildren Joe Wood, Jr., Jackson Wood, Jordyn Wood and Eva Wood.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home 5926 W. Friendly Avenue.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mr. Frederick Bruce Hicks

Mr. Frederick Bruce Hicks of Greensboro died at Wesley Long Hospital, Saturday June 19, 2004.

Mrs. Notra Farrar Stoner

Mrs. Notra Octovia Farrar Stoner, 92, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Countryside Manor, Stokesdale, NC.

Funeral service for Mrs. Stoner will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Brooke Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Lakeland Memorial Gardens in Lakeland, Florida.

A Rockingham County native, Mrs. Stoner was born on May 28, 1912, to the late William S. and Lula Lemmons Farrar. She was a retired Insurance Specialist for the State of Florida’s Insurance Commission. She served her Country in the US Navy during World War II. She was a member of Mt. Bethel Christian Church and a member of the Eastern Star. She was an avid golfer, she held her pilot’s license and was a ham radio operator.

Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law; Ruth F. and Wilbur Smith of Stokesdale, NC, brother and sister-in-law; Marvin and Kat Farrar, of Greensboro, NC, a special niece and nephew; Rev. Karen L. and Bob Jenkins of Summerfield, NC and a host of loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merritt A. Stoner, two sisters and five brothers.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on today, June 21, 2004, and other times at the home of Ruth and Wilbur Smith, 8863 NC 65, Stokesdale, NC. Brooke Funeral Home of Stokesdale is serving the Stoner family.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel Christian Church, 8130 NC Highway 65, Summerfield, NC 27358.

Mrs. Lucille Brady Seawell Michael

McLeansville – Mrs. Lucille S. Michael, 81, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 12, 2004.

Funeral service will be Sunday, August 15, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Forbis and Dick, North Elm Street Chapel. Interment will be at Green Hill Cemetery.

Lucille was a faithful member and willing servant of New Bessemer Baptist Church, where she was a member for most of her adult life. She was active in the Winsome Sunday School Class and the Morning Current Missions Group.

She will be remembered by her many loved ones for the beautiful quilts she made and for her joy of cooking. Lucille gave of herself and had a desire to make those around her happy.

Lucille was fortunate to have shared her life with two wonderful men. Everett Seawell was her husband of 32 years, before his death in 1977. He was the father of her two children Carolyn (Glenn) Perry, of Raleigh, and Randy (Kathy) Seawell, of Gibsonville. Her husband, John Michael, with whom she was happily married for 25 years, survives, of the home. With the addition of John’s two children, Cynthia and Earl (Lorene), whom she came to love as her own, the Michaels shared many happy years and were a very close family.

In addition to her husband and her children, Lucille is survived by her sisters, Betty Browning, of Greensboro; and Phoebe Swing, of Greensboro; brothers, W.W. Brady, of Gibsonville; and Chester Brady, of Greensboro; grandchildren, Steve Seawell; and Cristy and Jared Daley. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Flossie Holt Brady, her mother, Bannie M. Brady and by her sister, Hilda Turkett.

The family will receive friends at Forbis and Dick, North Elm Street Funeral Home tonight from 7:00-8:30 PM, and at other times will be at 5009 Wainwright Road, McLeansville.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Bessemer Baptist Church Building Fund, 4115 Hines Chapel Road, McLeansville, NC 27301.

Mrs. Erline Duggins McMasters

Greensboro – Mrs. Erline Duggins McMasters, 83, died Thursday, August 12, 2004, at Britthaven of Guilford.

A graveside service for Mrs. McMasters will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel.

Mrs. McMasters was a native of Guilford. She was a homemaker and a former member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Pat Levinson, Jean Collins and Gloria Barfield all of Greensboro; two sons, Billy McMasters of Surf City and Paul Lee Smith of Winston Salem; one sister Doris Swanson; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 16, 2004, at Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel.

Mrs. Karen Elizabeth Pinter

GREENSBORO, N.C.-Mrs. Karen Elizabeth Pinter, 80, died Thursday, August 12, 2004 at Beacon Place.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Coble’s Lutheran Church Cemetery with Rev. Grady Beavers, Jr. officiating.

Mrs. Pinter was born on January 9, 1924 in Deerfield, Wisconsin a daughter of the late Gustave and Helga Sieverson Solberg and moved back to Greensboro in 1985 from Washington, Illinois. She was a longtime member of Coble’s Lutheran Church, where she was member of the Sunshine Club and was a former member of Sweet Things Diabetes. Support Group at Wesley Long Hospital. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother who loved to laugh, cook, garden, travel and do cross-stich.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Joseph C. Pinter of the home; five daughters, Karen (Robert) Moran of San Antonio, Tx, Carla (Edward) Pautler of Evansville, Il., Patricia (Rick) Bicknell of Bel Air, Fl., Kim (William) Dyla of Chicago, Il. and Kelly (Mark) Joel of Greensboro; three sisters, Dorothy Gunderson of New Berlin, Wis., June York of Greensboro and Mildred Stemke of Milwaukee, Wis.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne Slagell, three sisters and a brother.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 P.M. Monday, August 16, 2004 at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, N. Elm Street.

In lieu of flowers, memorial Contributions may be made to Coble’s Lutheran Church, 5200 Coble Church Rd., Julian, N.C. 27406 or to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27405.

The family would like to thank the staff at Beacon Place, Hospice, Dr. James Granfortuna, Coble’s Lutheran Church and of our very special friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Shirley Morgan Ingram

GREENSBORO, NC - Mrs. Shirley Morgan Ingram 67, of 3026 Forestside Drive died Friday, August 13, 2004 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

A cryptside service will be held for Mrs. Ingram at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 15, 2004 in the Lakeview Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Shirley Ingram was born on December 9, 1936 to the late Bynum and Viola Angel Morgan. A lifelong resident of Guilford County, Mrs. Ingram was a former secretary for First Baptist Church of Greensboro and a member of Sharpe Road Baptist Church.

Mrs. Ingram is survived by her husband of 46 years, Ray Ingram of the home; daughter Sylvia Ingram Holland; son Russell Ray Ingram and Becky Gayler all of Greensboro; four sisters Juanita Stone of Summerfield, Clara Cox of Greensboro, Pat Huffines of Matthews, and Linda Ward of Greensboro; and a special granddaughter Morgan Holland of Greensboro.

The family will receive friends from 7 – 8 PM on Saturday evening at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street and other times at the residence.
