Mr. Salvatore Pelligra
Mr. Salvatore Pelligra age 84 of Greensboro died Saturday, February 7, 2004 at Wesley Long Hospital. He lived most of his life in Long Beach, NY and NY City. Mr. Pelligra was a retired restaurant owner-operator in NY City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church. Burial will follow in New Garden Cemetery.
Mr. Pelligra is survived by his wife, Jennie Pelligra of the home; Son, Emanuel Pelligra and his wife Pat Carey Pelligra of Oneonta, NY; Daughter, Joanne Pelligra and her dear friend, Teri Beckman of Winston-Salem, NC; Son, Dr. Sam Pelligra and his wife, Edie Gilmore of Greensboro; Sister, Giovanna Bocchieri of Cicily, Italy; Brother-in-law, Dr. Ralph Pelligra and his wife, Olivia of San Francisco, California and three grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher of Oneonta, NY and Kyle of Greensboro.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 pm Monday, February 9, 2004 at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel on W. Friendly Ave.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Mr. William Charles Gorrod
Mr. William Charles Gorrod, Jr., 79, of Greensboro, NC died Monday, February 9, 2004 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 12, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Bill was born in 1924 in Springfield, Massachusetts and graduated from the High School of Commerce. Then with the onset of WW II, Bill volunteered for Service with the Navy where he served as a Radioman First Class on the island of Guam until the close of the war. Bill then obtained employment with Gilbert and Barker Mfg. Co. (Gilbarco) in West Springfield, MA and Greensboro as a business treasurer and a business comptroller until his retirement in 1980. Bill and his wife Anna were members of The United Congregational Church and also attended Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Bill is survived by his beloved family members; wife Anna; son Alan C. Gorrod; daughter Janet G. Emmett and husband David N. ; two grandsons William H. Gorrod and John C. Gorrod; and Barbara K. Gorrod.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel.
Mr. Clarence Odell Robertson
GREENSBORO – Clarence Odell Robertson went to be with the Lord, Tuesday February 10, 2004 at Wesley Long Hospital after a struggle with cancer. Odell was surrounded by his loving wife, children, and many other family members and friends at the time of his death.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 13, 2004 at Forbis & Dick Chapel on N. Elm St. Internment will immediately follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Odell Robertson was a Summerfield native and a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Mr. Robertson retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Company after 41 years of dedicated service.
Odell is survived by is wife Doris Robertson of Greensboro, and two children, Anna Isley of South Carolina, and Tony Robertson of Greensboro. He is also survived by three sisters, Marie Pou of High Point, Lee Hodges of Winston-Salem, and Ruby Edmunston of Houston Texas, two grandchildren Farrah Darnell and husband Richie, and Shane Johnson, and one great-grandchild, Kinley Darnell all of Eden NC.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 PM on Thursday February 12, at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home on N. Elm St.
Mrs. Ola Summers Poplin
MOCKSVILLE – Mrs. Ola Summers Poplin, 82, of Frank Short Road died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at Davie County Hospital. Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Edward Carter and Rev. Jack Luther officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home Thursday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. They request memorials be considered for Bethel United Methodist Church, 322 Bethel Church Road, Mocksville, NC 27208. Mrs. Poplin was born December 23, 1921 in Rowan County to the late C. P. and Lundie Lowder Summers and was a homemaker. She had worked part time at Fran Ray Nursing Home and also at Lynn Haven as a nursing assistant. She was a graduate of Mocksville High School, enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening and canning. She was a long time member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and former director of the Youth Choir. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Earl Poplin in 1984; two daughters, Fay Roberson and Josephine Poplin; one brother, Adam Summers. Survivors include a daughter, Lucille Matthews of Mocksville; four sons, T. C. (Donna) Poplin of Statesville, Earl (Carla) Poplin, Gene (Cathy) Poplin, Tim Poplin all of Mocksville; fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a special close friend, Mattie Lowery of Cleveland.
Mr. Richard C. Hill
Mr. Richard C. Hill of Greensboro died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Mary Forrester Brooks
Mrs. Mary Forrester Brooks, 90, died Friday, June 5, 2004, at Beverly Health Care Starmount.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, June 13, at First Christian Church of Atlanta.
Mary was born in Walton County, GA and spent most of her lifetime living in Tucker, GA.
Mary is survived by daughters, Mary Owens, and husband Wayne, of Lilburn, GA, and Ann Kellogg, and husband Gordon, of Greensboro; brother, Winston Forrester, of Oxford, GA; sister, Katherine Livsey, of Grayson, GA; five grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
A reception for family and friends will be held following the service at the church.
The family would appreciate memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church, Choir Fund, 4532 La Vista Road, Tucker, GA 30084 in lieu of flowers.

Mrs. Rose Frances Scherer Wagner of Greensboro died Friday, June 11, 2004 at her residence.
Transferred to Hassling Funeral Home in Honesdale, PA.

Mr. John Boone Pleasants, Jr.
Greensboro – Mr. John Boone Pleasants, Jr. of 301 Pineburr Road, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at The Evergreens.
Mr. Pleasants was a native of Guilford County. He was the owner of Pleasants Hardware, graduate of Greensboro High School, attended UNC-Chapel Hill, a member of UCT, the Odd Fellows, the Sportsman Wildlife Club, in the U.S. Army and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where he was a life member of the Roach Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Pleasants.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Cooley Pleasants of the home; one son, Dorman Wayne Pleasants of Silt, Co.; two sisters, Elizabeth Foster of Topeka, Ks. and Carolyn Harris of Winston Salem.

Mr. Edward W. Eldrett, Jr.
Mr. Edward W. Eldrett, Jr. 82, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at his residence.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Edward was an adventurous man who loved nature and the out doors. He enjoyed hiking, camping, bird watching, reading maps and scouting. He was a recipient of the Wood Badge which is the highest honor for a Boy Scout leader. He served as a 1st Lt. in the US Army in Italy during WWII and was a mechanical engineer retired from Bethlehem Steel. He was also involved in various community volunteer efforts.
Edward graduated from Clarkson College in Potsdam, NY. His true love for people and his intelligent, eclectic curiosity led him into an adventurous life ever seeking to know people, to read, and to explore this wonderful life. He was an ordained Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. At the time of his death he was a member of Starmount Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC.
Preceding him in death were his wife Bernice C. Eldrett, brother H. Carlton (Gyp) Eldrett, granddaughter Hannah N. Tyson and son-in-law Kenard M. Knust.
Survivors include daughters, Cynthia Knust, of Greensboro, Daryl Watkins, and husband Bill, of Montross, VA; son, James Eldrett, of Dundalk, MD and grandchildren Kimberly Tyson, and husband John, of Greensboro, Carolyn Williams, and husband, Robert, of Asheville, K. Michael Knust, and wife Jennifer, also of Greensboro, Christopher Eldrett, of Flagstaff, AZ and Jamie Eldrett, of Ann Arbor, MI.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Hospice or to the Appalachian Trail Conference.

Mrs. Agnes Lorimer Blair Taylor
GREENSBORO, N.C.- Mrs. Agnes (Nancy) Blair Taylor, 98, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2004.
Her cremains will be interred in Bethesda Cemetery, Morristown, Tennessee on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 4:00 P.M.
She was born in Selma, Alabama and lived most of her life in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was a member of the Greensboro Lecture League, a past member of Daughters of the American Revolution and several bridge groups.
Survivors include a daughter Maud Taylor Tucker and her husband, William S. Tucker, Sr. of Richmond, Va.; grandsons, Richard Joseph Mizell and his wife Bonnie P. Mizell of Orlando, Fla. and Robert Blair Mizell of Palm Bay, Fla.; one great grandson, John W. Mizell of Orlando, Fla.; two step grand daughters and four step great grandchildren. She had a host of nieces and nephews including Nancy T. Cook and her husband Randy of Bristol, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Shields Taylor.
Memorial gifts may be donated to the church or charity of one’s choice.

Mr. Jerry Hensley
Captain Jerry Benjamin Hensley, age 35, of 209 Waverly Way Greensboro, NC died Friday June 18, 2004 at Moses Cone Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 6:00 PM Sunday, June 20, 2004 in the chapel of Forbis & Dick Funeral Service 1118 North Elm Street Greensboro, NC with Reverend Wendy Billinglea officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home until 8:30 PM. A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 21, 2004 at the Puckett Family Cemetery in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
He was born December 5, 1968 in Martinsville, VA to the late Dude Hensley and Odessa Puckett Hensley. Jerry was a graduate of Guilford Technical Community College and was employed with the City of Greensboro. He was a Squadron Commander of Martinsville Composite Squadron Virginia of Civil Air Patrol.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Stalter Hensley; two brothers, Kenneth Terry of Chatham, VA and Jim Warner of Lynchburg, VA; and two step-children, Brad Hassell and Lydia Hassell, both of Greensboro.
