The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Maiden Chapel Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

CHARLOTTE — Mr. George Louis Carr, 70, of 123 Long Creek Parkway, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at home.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Link’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Dennis Daniel White, 46, of 310 Campbell Circle, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at home.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at New Way Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eugene Earley officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

SHELBY — Mr. Robert Preston Holley, 68, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

SHELBY — Mr. Robert McConnell Sr., 89, of 419 Carolina Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Light Oak Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie D. Wray officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service.

Bob Callahan
SHELBY — Mr. Robert “Bob” W. Callahan, 57, of 406 Melody Lane and formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County and born Sept. 12, 1948, he was a research chemist for Hoechst-Celanese in Charlotte for nearly 20 years, and was a member of Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte and the Dan Proctor Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Shelby. He served in the Army and was a long time member of the American Chemical Society.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Joseph Callahan.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Long Callahan of the home; son, Chris Callahan of Charlotte; daughter, Erin Callahan of Queretarro, Mexico; and his former wife, Karen Callahan of Charlotte.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Webb Chapel of First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Dennis Short
BURLINGTON — Dennis Eugene Short, 61, of 3660 Burch Bridge Road, died Saturday, December 10, 2005 at the Hospice Home after a short illness.
A native of Cleveland County, he was retired from Lance Inc. and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he was the treasurer for the Bethel Men’s Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris Leonard and Ruby Davis Short.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah Kay Danieley Short of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen Short and Robert Harrill of Shelby; two grandchildren, Megan Harrill and Robert Harrill; a stepson and his wife, Jesse and Susan Gwynn of Burlington; a stepgranddaughter, Sadler Gwynn; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Mary Short of Level Cross.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Renee Burnette officiating. Entombment will follow at the Lakeview Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.

RUTHERFORDTON — Ms. Daisy Miller Michael, 75, of 230 New Hope Road, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at her residence.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Piney Ridge C. M. E. Church with the Rev. Johnny Seawright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 358 Boy Scout Road in Rutherfordton.

Woodrow Walton
LAWNDALE — Mr. Woodrow Walton, 82, of 210 New Hope Road, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at his home.
A native of Ruther-ford County and born Oct. 29, 1923, he was a retired automobile mechanic from Robert Haynes Garage and the owner of Walton’s Garage and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Lawndale where he was a trustee and served as treasurer for 30 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the 643rd Port Company. He was a mason and member of Clover Hill Lodge No. 10 and the Saint James Grand Lodge. He was also a member of the Lawndale Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lola Marble Walton; two brothers, Edgar Hugh Walton and Cleveland Walton; two stepbrothers, Ardell Whitworth and Edward Whitworth; and a grandson, Quentin Rudisill.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Orgar Albert Walton; five sons and three daughters-in-law; Woodrow Walton Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio, Thomas and Shirley Walton and Wayne and Debra Walton, all of Shelby, Calvin Walton of Lawndale, and Charles and Machele Walton of Spindale; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret Walton and Anthony Davis of Atlanta and Valeria Walton and Allen Willis of Charlotte; a sister and brother-in-law, Angeline Walton and Odell Byrd of Lawndale; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a stepmother, Susie Walton; two stepbrothers, Willie Whitworth and Coleman Whitworth; a stepsister, Emma Johnson; a sister-in-law, Mazelle Walton; a godson and his wife, Harvey and Claudia Hector; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lawndale with Rev. Billy Houze officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

RUTHERFORDTON — Mrs. Alta Nero of 240 E. Court St., died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at her residence.

LAWNDALE — Ms. Leila Tyndle, 80, of 104 Neal St., died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Presbyterian Hospital.

Elsie Ross
GROVER — Elsie Putnam Ross, 92, of 203 Carolina Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Cherokee County, S.C., the daughter of the late Thomas Lee Putnam and Sudie Foster Putnam.
She was the wife of the late Grady Lee Ross. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Beona Carter; a sister, Flora Martin; and a brother, Bill Putnam. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Grover and was a homemaker.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty R. Bell and husband Edward of Kings Mountain, Joyce R. Wright and husband Scott of Suffolk, Va., Mary R. Evans of Grover and Denise R. Schenk and husband Dale of Shelby; two brothers, Lee Putnam of Blacksburg and Eugene Putnam of Grover; three sisters, Alie Andrews and Janelle Diffenderfer, both of Blacksburg, and Catherine Hardin of Lincolnton; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Fulbright and the Rev. David Saldo officiating. Burial will follow at Grover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 at Harris Funeral Home in Kings Mountain.

Delvo Scruggs
FOREST CITY — Delvo D. Scruggs, 87, of Harris-Henrietta Road, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Fair Haven Home in Bostic.
