R. Tommy Dellinger Jr.
GASTONIA — Mr. R. Tommy Dellinger, 59, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church, with the Revs. Tony Fullbright, Dickie Spargo and Richard Varriale officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral and burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter’s Funeral Home, Cherryville.
Roger Turner
BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mr. Roger Dale Turner, 50, of 321 Hopewell Road, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at his home.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church, with the Revs. Don Boshell and Billy Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday evening at White Columns of Blacksburg.
C. Horace Wright
GROVER — Mr. Charles Horace Wright, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at Peachtree Center in Gaffney, S.C.
A native of Cleveland County, he was employed at Capital Transit company as a mechanic. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a graduate of No. Three High School. He served in the Army in World War II as a staff sergeant.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Andrews Wright; parents, Charlie and Maggie Ware Wright and five brothers, Broadus Wright, Graham Wright, Joseph M. Wright, Spurgeon Wright and Virgil Wright.
He is survived by his brother, John Wright of Shelby and four sisters, Ruth Wright of Washington, D.C., Mary Stallings of Sanford, Lois Mason of Lynchburg, Va., and Ruby Young of Pullman, Wash.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Earl with the Rev. David Gordon officiating.
The family will receive friends at Palmer Mortuary today from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Albert Hunter Sr.
BESSEMER CITY — Mr. Albert Hunter Sr., 53, of 147 Z.A. Hunter Road, died Friday Dec. 2, 2005, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Viva Crawford
CLOVER, S.C. — Mrs. Viva McDaniel Crawford, 95, of 1435 N. Highway 161, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at Lincoln Nursing Center in Lincolnton.
She was born in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Grier Little Sr. and Alice Fulton McDaniel.
She was a homemaker and a charter member of the Oakdale Presbyterian Church in Clover, where she has been an active member for 53 years and was a Sunday school teacher. She also received the Outstanding Older Adult Award from the Providence Presbytery on May 17.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Albert Louis Crawford; her sisters, Thelma Hicks, Betty Yarbro and Ruby McDaniel; her brothers, Gail McDaniel and Wilbur “Bill” McDaniel; and sons-in-law, Howard Robinson and Hal Gibson.
She is survived by her sons, the Rev. Louis Crawford and his wife, Grace, of Kings Mountain and Kenneth E. Crawford and his wife, Ann, of Roanoke, Va.; three daughters, Ruby C. Robinson of Clover, Elizabeth C. Gibson of Chesnee, S.C., and Ruth C. Swofford and her husband, Roy, of Shelby; a brother, Grier “Bud” Little McDaniel Jr. of Kings Mountain; 16 grandchildren; 28 grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Oakdale Presbyterian Church in Clover with the Rev. Sam Shumate officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the church fellowship hall before the service.

Ralph Thomas
SHELBY — Ralph James Thomas, 52, of 513 Wardell St., departed this life Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at Hospice of Cleveland County.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Genesis Chapel with Dr. Michael Isaac officiating.

Ralph Callahan
SHELBY — Mr. Ralph C. Callahan, 92, formerly of 3622 Artee Road, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, where he was the oldest member. He was a former teacher of the R.W. McMurry Sunday School Class and was a former deacon.
Mr. Callahan was well thought of throughout Cleveland County for his expertise in butchery. He was the former owner and operator of Callahan Supermarket.
He worked for many, many years with Ora Supermarket and was a very avid gardener.
He served in the Army in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred D. Callahan and Sally Humphries Callahan; his wife, Nancy McCurry Callahan; a daughter, Maultie Ann; brothers, Jim, Lester, Wesley and Furman Callahan; and sisters, Bessie Brooks and Selma Greene.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Justice Callahan of Shelby; two sons and their wives, Brevard and Barbara Callahan and Steve and Doris Callahan, all of Shelby; sons, Charles Callahan and Eddie Callahan, both of Shelby; a daughter and her husband, Carolyn and Walt Price of Shelby; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Revs. Ken Pruett and Ervin Price and Dr. Paul Sorrells officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 at Cleveland Funeral Services before the service and other times at their respective homes.
A committal service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with military honors.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Billy Ray Grindle, 73, of 1001 N. Cansler St., died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The memorial service will be today at 4 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel.

Marie Wells
POLKVILLE — Mrs. Lillie Marie Clark Wells, 72, of 4307 Polkville Road, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Cherokee County, S.C., April 21, 1933, the daughter of the late James Edward and Stella Beacham Clark. She was a homemaker and an active member of Polkville Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, J. C. and Cebron Clark, and one sister, Lucille Carpenter.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bobby “Bob” Gene Wells; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Steve Whisnant and Carol and Johnnie Morrison, all of Polkville; four grandchildren, Stefanie and Adam Whisnant and Melissa and Jessie Morrison.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Polkville Baptist Church, with Dr. Robert L. Lamb and the Rev. Alton Martin officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Clarence O. Spratt, 76, of 1004 Sherwood Lane, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Janice Combs officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 before the service.

Mary Moore
STANLEY — Mrs. Mary L. Moore, 86, of Upper Spencer Mountain Road, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Stanley Total Living Center.
A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Labon J. and Lockie Withers Lineberger. Mrs. Moore was a member of First United Methodist Church and served as a Girl Scout lLeader, Cub Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and Bible school teacher. She was a past president of the Gastonia District of the United Methodist Women and went on the building teams for the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Stanley High School, and her favorite hobbies were cooking and reading.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar D. Moore; daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Haddock; and two brothers, Luther and Keith Lineberger.
She is survived by two daughters, Alice Byrd and husband, Larry, of Shelby and Linda Mauney and husband, Dick, of Cherryville; son, David Moore and wife, Judy, of Stanley; two sisters, Sara Lewis of Mount Holly and Ellen Townsend of Brunswick, Ga.; sister-in-law, Edna Lineberger of Stanley; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley, with Dr. Thomas Ray Steagald officiating. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
