Verdie Willis
VALE — Mrs. Verdie Mae Davis Willis, 88, of 543 Bert Yarbro Road, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at Carillon Assisted Living.
Born Dec. 28, 1917, in Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Ruffus and Fannie Lovelace Davis. She retired from Cleveland Memorial Hospital housekeeping and was a member of Way of the Cross Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Thomas Willis; a son, Charles Willis; two daughters, Eula Jackson and Elizabeth Shires; two sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Jane Willis of Vale; a daughter, Sybil Terry of Shelby; three sisters, Inez Ellis of Mooresboro, Annie Powell of Valdese and Letha Martin of Forest City; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Fain Morrison and Len Byers officiating. Burial will follow in Sandy Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received visitors Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the homes of her children.

Inez Brafford
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Inez Brafford, 70, of 228 Jim Patterson Road, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at home.
She was born in Cleveland County a daughter of the late Clyde and Pearl Short Goins. She was a homemaker and a member of Corinth Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Chalmer Goins, and three sisters, Sadie Taylor, Thelma Bridges and Dorothy Payne.
She is survived by her husband, Philip Brafford Sr. of Kings Mountain; three sons, Philip Brafford Jr. and wife, Elaine, of Grover, and Keith Brafford and Larry Brafford, both of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Juna Ann Moore, Carol Boyd and husband, Dale, all of Kings Mountain, and April Elaine Camp and husband, Norman, of Boiling Springs; a brother, Roy Goins of Grover; four sisters, Ruth Putnam and Pernel Patterson, both of Kings Mountain, Bertha Goins of Shelby and Vera Davis of Shenandoah, Va.; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Corinth Primitive Baptist Church, with Elders Rommie Williams and F. W. Stacks officiating. Interment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.
Sarah Horton
SUNSHINE — Mrs. Sarah Ellis Green Horton, 98, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at Willow Ridge Nursing Center.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the graveside service.

Dewitt Newton
SHELBY — Mr. Dewitt Gold Newton, 80, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Jessie Andrew and Letha Henson Newton.
In addition to his parents, a brother, Glenn Newton, preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters, Jeannie Marks of Rock Hill, S.C., and Nicole Wylie and husband, Scott, of Cherryville, and three grandchildren, Casey Nash of Canada, Butch Marks of Asheville and Makayla Wylie of Cherryville.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. David Black officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
David Willis
LAWNDALE — Mr. David Richard “Little Richard” Willis, of 137 Grey Fox Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born May 19, 1970, to David and Cheryl Huskey Willis. He was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church. He attended Crest High School, was employed at Vocational Rehab Center in Shelby and was a Red Cross volunteer.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ben Willis Jr. and Anna Nance Huskey.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lannette Willis, a daughter, Takiya D. Willis of the home; two sons, Davon Wray of Charlotte and Christopher Gill of Shelby; two stepsons, Tyres and Braxton Dabbs, both of the home; a granddaughter, Malaria Gill of Shelby; his parents, David and Cheryl Huskey Willis of Shelby; grandmother, Ida Willis of Shelby; four brothers, Jermaine Willis (Tiffany) of Forest City, Karrel Willis, Stenson Willis and Ravon Youngblood, all of Shelby; one sister, Ashley Archie of Shelby; one brother-in-law, Undra Miller (Rita) of Shelby; two sisters-in-law, Djuna Myrick (Damon) of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Renata Hopper of Shelby; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Brinda Miller of Shelby; special aunts, Carol Saddler of Shelby and Georgia Ann White of Gaffney, S.C.; special nephew, Cameron Sweezy of Shelby; special friend, Garland Hopper Jr. of Shelby; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Issac officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service and at other times at the homes of his in-laws, 2551 Shoal Creek Church Road, and his mother, 1425 Clearbrook Drive.

Bonnie Hamrick
SHELBY — Ms. Bonnie Lee Mauney Hamrick, 53, of Somerset Court, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Broadus Lee Mauney and Marguerite Borders Mauney Jeter. She was a former member of Washington Baptist Church. Bonnie was a very friendly and happy person who never met any strangers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Hamrick; her stepfather, John Rister Jeter; and a brother, Shelton Lee Mauney.
She is survived by two daughters, Tereasa Hamrick and Ericka Russell, both of Shelby; one brother, Gene Mauney of Shelby; four sisters, Margaret Webber (Billy), Etta Brooks (Johnny) and Beverly Jackson, all of Shelby, and Majorie Anita Gingles of Grover (Lewis); four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Roberts Tabernacle CME Church, with the Rev. Jerry Webb officiating. Burial will be at Philadelphia Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service and at other times at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Etta and Johnny Brooks, 113 Briar Lane, Shelby.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Lottie Absher Burton, 83, of 612 Meadowbrook Road, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at home.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Long Creek Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Troy Brazwell officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6:30 to 8 at Harris Funeral Home.

LAWNDALE — Mrs. Hazel Diane Mullinax Wright, 58, of 453 Casar-Belwood Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Nikki Wright, 453 Casar-Belwood Road, Lawndale, with the Rev. Tony Mullinax officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home one hour before the service.

SHELBY — Mr. John Alvin Haynes Jr., 22, of 514 Suttle St., departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
He was born in Cleveland County on Oct. 10, 1983, to Joycelyn Peeler and John Alvin Haynes Sr.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Pauline Peeler and B. J. Johnson, and paternal grandparents, Eddie and Estelle Haynes.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, LaQuinta Peeler of Shelby and Melissa Melvin of Maryland; two brothers, Cornelius Peeler and Octavis Williams, both of Hickory; four nieces, Ra-Una Peeler of Shelby, Jakaira Williams and Destiney Styles of Hickory and Destinee Melvin of Maryland; three nephews, RaQuan Peeler of Shelby, Jakese Melvin of Maryland and Ciyland Tipps of Hickory, four uncles; Boyd Peeler, Edward (Kathy) Peeler, Gene (Roslin) Haynes and Louis Haynes, all of Shelby, seven aunts, Evangelist Laura Singleton of Shelby, Elizabeth Surratt of Hickory, Bernice Cunningham of Detroit, Felicia Peeler of Asheville, Gail (Sam) Street and Edda Lane, both of Baltimore, and Sandra Peeler of Greensboro; special cousins, Lamont Peeler of Morganton and Johnny Peeler, Deborah Allen and Reggie Singleton, all of Shelby; special friends, Raquida Bilal and Chris Smith; and a host of relatives and friends.

Lexie Trawick
BRYSON CITY — Mrs. Lexie Gibson Trawick, 88, formerly of Bryson City, died Nov. 28, 2005, at Family Care Home of Glen Alpine where she had been a resident for the past two years.
Mrs. Trawick was the daughter of the late Jonnie Smith and Samuel Garland Gibson. She was a former Town Clerk of Bryson City, and retired from the Department of Social Services in Swain County.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Trawick; brothers Grayson and J. R. Gibson and sister-in-law, Marjorie F. Gibson.
She is survived by her children, Dr. David E. Trawick of Charlotte, Thomas E. Trawick and wife, Ruth, of Brasstown, and Sonya Trawick England and husband, Glenn, of Glen Alpine; grandsons P.R. Bennett IV and wife, Katie, of Lake Toxaway and Kelly E. Bennett II and wife, Tonya, of Valdese; six great-grandchildren, Ashe, Christopher, Gavin, and Karrigan Bennett, Ryan Sanders and Maddie Rose Dunning; Special friends Elmer and Brenda Cook of Glen Alpine.
The funeral was Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Crisp Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Tagliarini of First Baptist Church in Bryson City officiating.
The family received friends before the funeral.

Willie Julian
CASAR — Mr. Willie Warren Julian Jr., 57, of 630 Moriah Church Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born July 4, 1948, in Marion County, Fla., he was the son of the late Willie Warren Julian Sr. and was retired as a building contractor. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Casar.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sherry Clyatt Julian, of the home; mother and stepfather, Hilda Jane McCallister Grogg and Joe Grogg of Plant City, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and Andrea Julian of Casar, and Chad and Theresa Julian of Union Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Brett Premer of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Brett and Brooke Fuller, Seth and Brad Julian, and Christopher Premer Jr.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Casar with the Revs. Jamie Bridges and Sam Snyder officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.
