James Blackburn
LAWNDALE — Mr. James Edgar “Jim” Blackburn, 89, of 114 Wallace St., died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at Openview Rest Home.
Born June 23, 1916, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Jessie Edgar Blackburn and Mandy Lee Long Blackburn. He was retired from Cleveland Mills and served in the Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Bentha Dayberry Blackburn; four brothers, Grady Blackburn, Shannon Blackburn, Reid Blackburn and Carl Blackburn; and a sister, Laura Tucker.
He is survived by a brother, Charles Blackburn and wife, Dorothy, of Lawndale; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Tree United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday an hour before the service at the funeral home.
Bobby Byrd Jr.
LAWNDALE — Mr. Bobby Gene (Bug) Byrd Jr., 39, of 108 Butler Drive, departed this life Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 10, 1965, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Bobby Gene Byrd Sr. and Zora Lene Dillingham Byrd. He was previously employed with Century Industries of Hickory for 21 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Debra Ann Byrd.
He leaves to cherish fond memories four sisters, Betty Jo Dillingham, Eureka Banks (Michael) and Zondra Byrd, all of Lawndale, and Tosha Jackson (Thomas) of Gastonia; a nephew, Montrel Dillingham of Fort Jackson, S.C.; three nieces, Teaerra Jackson of Gastonia and Kenyottia Byrd and Denisha Banks, both of Lawndale; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Lawndale, with Pastor Billy D. Houze officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday 30 minutes before the service.

Darris Laws
LAWNDALE — Mr. Darris “Pop” McDaniel Laws, 64, of 1617 Larry Davis Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at Lincoln Medical Center.
Born July 11, 1941, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late John Thomas Laws and Cindy Travis Laws. He was retired as a truck driver for Overnite Transportation with 35 years of service. He was a member of Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church in Hudson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Absher; a granddaughter, Brittany Newton; three brothers, June Laws, Willard Laws and Earl Laws; and three sisters, Ollie Lutz, Gladys Allen and Ann Price.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Gail Russ Laws; two sons, Danny Laws and wife, Renee, of Albemarle and Mark Newton of Matthews; three daughters, Dolores Morris and husband, Michael, of Shelby, Darla McCracken and husband, Tony, of Hudson, and Shannon Broadnax and husband, Mark, of Winston-Salem; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Danny Laws officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

MORGANTON — Mr. James C. Walker, 71, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

CHARLOTTE — Mr. Jeffrey Alan Gettys, 44, of Country Club Drive, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at Hospice House in Forest City.
A graveside service is today at 11 a.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today in the church fellowship hall an hour before the service.

Martha Borders
GREER, S.C. — Mrs. Martha Littlejohn Borders, formerly of Shelby, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Piedmont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greer.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was born July 4, 1911, and was a daughter of the late Rufus and Sallie Littlejohn Borders. She was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Borders; four brothers, Nathan, Grovean, Hilliard and Clyde Littlejohn; and five sisters, Ethel McCluney, Mandie Borders, Eva Gaffney, Edna Littlejohn and Mattie Littlejohn.
She is survived by a daughter, Ociseleen Moore Robinson (Joe) of Greer; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Michael Issac officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

‘Cindy’ Reed
SHELBY — Mrs. Cynthia “Cindy” Reed, 45, formerly of Turkey Creek, Ky., died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Mingo County, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late Sterl Scott and Queenie Willis Scott. She was a homemaker and a member of Spindale Church of God. She loved the Lord and left behind a great witness and testimony to all who knew her. She will be missed.
She is survived by her husband, Hiram Thomas (Tommy) Reed of the home; a son, Andrew Reed of the home; a daughter, Elizabeth Reed of the home; three brothers, Richard Scott and wife, Betty, of Shelby, Roger Scott and wife, Kay, of Ransom, Ky., and Timmy Scott and wife, Mary Jo, of McCarr, Ky.; three sisters, Kathy Marcum and husband, David, of Longsville, Ohio, and Sharon Lucas and husband, Mike, and Angela Crum and husband, Bruce, all of Williamson, W. Va.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is tonight at 6 at Bethel Baptist Church, with Dr. Tim Simms and Pastor Bill Alley officiating. The family will receive friends tonight an hour before the service at the church.
A funeral will be Sunday at 11 a.m. at Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Ky. Burial will follow in Alley Cemetery in Belfry. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home.

Dean Shoup
LAWNDALE — Mr. Larry Dean Shoup, 59, of 108 Dirty Ankle Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born April 4, 1946, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Coy Shoup and Edna Buff Shoup. He was a full-time farmer and owner-operator of Shoup’s Grocery. He retired from tire recapping after 20 years and then worked for Cleveland County Recycling and for Hartman’s Heavy Equipment Construction Co. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elaine Mull Shoup; two sons, Barry Shoup and wife, Leta, and Aron Shoup and wife, Kiley, all of Lawndale; a daughter, Angie Tessneer and husband, Homer, of Lawndale; three brothers, Faye Shoup of Casar and Gerald Shoup and Robert Shoup, both of Lawndale; seven grandchildren, April Wellmon, Josh Wellmon, Jillian Shoup, Dustin Tessneer, Janna Shoup, Avery Shoup and Erica Shoup; and a great-grandchild, Lara Wellmon.
A graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Revs. Clyde Price, Burl Sain and Bobby Ledford officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.
