Elijah Greene
RUTHERFORDTON — Elijah Blake Greene, infant son of Marcus Greene and Cristin Salazar died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by grandparents, Steve and Brenda Haynes of Rutherfordton, Robin Jones of Mooresboro, Bob Jones of Mooresboro and Mark and Kathy Greene of Henrietta; great-grandparents, Mammie and Page Hunter, Linda Short and Bobby and Gearldine Greene; and great-great-grandparents, Ray Jones, Leory and Phanice Greene, Elizabeth Humphries and Effie Humphries.
A graveside service is today at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park, with the Rev. Ernie Cole officiating.
The family will be at the home of Bob Jones, 1557 Old US 221-A, Mooresboro.

Margaret Godfrey
KERNERSVILLE — Mrs. Margaret Washburn Godfrey, 81, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Born June 27, 1924, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Waylan and Frances Washburn. She graduated from Gardner-Webb College, and worked in the banking industry all her life, beginning with the Federal Reserve Bank in Charlotte and retiring from the Bank of America. She was a faithful member of Union Cross Baptist Church in Kernersville, where she held many positions including deacon, Sunday school director and faithful choir member. She will be remembered for her Christian witness through her beautiful singing. She loved to bake and brought joy to many with her wonderful cakes, cookies and breads. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who God had placed on this earth and has now called home after a lifetime of devoted service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Godfrey; and a daughter, Helen Louise Godfrey.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheri Nichols (Tony) of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Angela Stewart (Chris) of Kernersville; a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Stewart of Kernersville; six brothers, Troy Washburn (Trudy), Tyree Washburn (June), Johnny Washburn (Brenda), Carl Washburn (Malinda), Charles Washburn (Sue) and Billy Washburn (Sue); and two sisters, Patsy Allman and Erlene Greene (Roy).
The funeral is today at 3 p.m. at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville, with the Revs. Marty Daniels and Mark Ashworth officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorials Gardens.
The family will receive friends today an hour before the service at the funeral home.

LAKE LURE — Mr. Martin Logan, 63, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at Hospice of Rutherford County.

SHELBY — Mrs. Nerva Jane Smith Brown, 78, of 2422 Elizabeth Ave., died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at home.

Roland Odoms Sr.
POLKVILLE — Mr. Roland Odoms Sr., 72, of 2110 W. Stagecoach Trail, Lot 4, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was a son of the late Eli and Lathy Jackson Odoms. He was employed at Hickory Manufacturing Company for 18 years and had been retired for the last 20 years. He was a member of Palmer Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Thurman Odoms.
He is survived by three sons, Lloyd Thurman, Roland Odoms Jr. and Vernon (Pia) Odoms, all of Shelby; six daughters, Christine Odoms, Cheryl Odoms, Sandra (James) Coleman, Bernice (George) Marble and Toni Odoms, all of Shelby and Debora Odoms of Lawndale; four sisters, Leila Clark, Sallie Hill, Margaret Shuford and Mary Odoms; a brother, Johnny Odoms; 27 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Palmer Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 30 minutes before the service at the church and at other times at the home of Sandra Odoms, 1820 Lowman St., Shelby.

John Norris
NEWTON — Mr. John Elliott Norris, went home to his eternal reward Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, after a brief illness at Crawley Nursing Home in Boiling Springs.
He was born July 25, 1927, in Spartanburg, S.C. and was blessed with two sets of parents, the late Ada Dean and Dan Walker and the late Johnny and Gertrude Littlejohn Norris. He was a faithful member of Maple Springs Baptist Church in Shelby. He retired in 1999 from TNS Mills, Blacksburg, S.C., where he performed multiple duties, which included electrical work, frames assembly and maintenance. He was a multi-talented person and excelled in many facets of life. He never met a stranger and loved his family, friends and neighbors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary G. Norris; and a sister, Mary Stewart Parrott.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife, Willie Mae Dover Norris of the home; 12 children, Gertrude O. (Carlee) Clemons of Maiden, Betty (James) Davis of Charlotte, Jonny (Denise) Norris of Rochester, N.Y., John E. (Elois) Norris, Joe D. (Shanda) Norris, Charles W. (Samantha) Norris, Annette (Ernie Sr.) Gentry, and Brenda J. (Thomas) Crawford, all of Shelby, Arthur L. (Elizabeth) Norris of Forth Worth, Texas, Gloria A. (Meddie) Lawrence of Lawndale, Carla D. (Roger) McDow of Weddington and Diane Norris of Gaffney, S.C.; 33 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Maple Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Lee Dover officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday an hour before the service at the church.

BESSEMER CITY — Mrs. Mildred Cody Smith, 79, of 204 E. Maryland Ave., died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at home.

CAROLEEN — Mrs. Amy Nicole Padgett Condrey, 28, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005 at home.

Frances Jordan
CHARLOTTE — Mrs. Frances Wilson Jordan, 91, of Aldersgate United Methodist Retirement Community, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Asbury Care Center in Charlotte.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Robert W. and Bertha Wright Wilson. She graduated from Fallston High School and Weaver Junior College. She was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Charlotte.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben F. Jordan; and six brothers, Evan M. Wilson, Lloyd B. Wilson, Reed M. Wilson, Thomas W. Wilson, George H. Wilson and Paris F. Wilson.
She is survived by two sisters, Jewel Wilson of Charlotte and Hazel Wilson Wilkerson of Marion.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Coppley officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn West in Charlotte.
The family will receive friends Saturday an hour before the service at the church.

Margaret Everhart
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Margaret “Pete” Beamon Everhart, 82, of 804 Woodside Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Beach Beamon and Bertha Tarlton Beamon. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Circle No. 3 and Adult Fellowship Class. She was also a nursery attendant for many years. She was retired from Belk’s in Gastonia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Everhart; and a sister, Beatrice “Bea” Whitworth.
She is survived by a brother, James Eugene Beamon and wife, Sarah, of Greensboro; two nieces, Margaret Dover and Twyla W. Robinson and husband, Ray, all of Kings Mountain; two nephews, Ted Whitworth and wife, Jenny, of Shelby and Andy Beamon and wife, Mary, of Greensboro; a great-niece, Hannah Beamon; and four great-nephews, Trey Robinson, Rai Robinson, Adam Whitworth and Jordon Whitworth.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Janice Combs officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. in the Christian activities center at the church.

Patsy Hoyle
SHELBY — Mrs. Patsy Holland Hoyle, 68, of 654 McBrayer Homestead Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Sidney Ralph Holland and Nellie Kate Poteat Holland. She was a homemaker and served 28 years with the Boiling Springs Rescue Squad. She was a member of T. W. Lovelace Memorial Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Sue Scruggs; and a grandson, Matthew Hope.
She is survived by her husband, Julius Hoyle of the home; two daughters, Debra Hope and husband, Reid, and Cynthia Jones and husband, David, all of Shelby; a brother, William Steve Holland of Shelby; a sister, Barbara Drewery and husband, Junior, of Shelby; five grandchildren, Scott Jones, Karla Jones, Jason Hope, Ashley Hope and Peggy Goodman; and three great-grandchildren, Erica Yates, Emily Yates and Gary “Bud” Yates Jr.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at T. W. Lovelace Memorial Church, with the Revs. Chad Jones, Scott Caldwell and Bo Wagner officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Cleveland Funeral Services and at other times at the home.
