Ruby Dillingham
SHELBY — Mrs. Ruby Queen Dillingham, 94, of 401 N. Morgan St., formerly of 216 Mimosa Park Drive, Goldsboro, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at White Oak Manor.
Born March 31, 1911, in Cleveland County, she was the eldest daughter of the late B. G. Queen and Mattie Russ Queen. She was a retired office clerk with the Post Exchange of the Air Force and was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church of Goldsboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, T. D. Dillingham; four sisters, Madge Silver, Florence Cochran, Dorothy Cloninger and Betty Jo Murphy; and two brothers, Robert and Bud Queen.
She is survived by a niece and caregiver, Marie Horne of Shelby, and several other nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Austin officiating. A private family burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2:15 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her niece, Marie Horne, 1205 Hunt St., Shelby.

Bill McKillop
PALM BAY, Fla. — Mr. William Richard McKillop, 80, of 265 Avens Road, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at Carnegie Gardens Nursing Center in Melbourne, Fla.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was a son of the late Richard William and Emma Moschel McKillop. He retired as a senior master sergeant from the Air Force with 23 years of active service. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany. He was also retired from the postal service.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Bidzilya McKillop; three sons, Richard McKillop and wife, Alice, of Wheeling, W. Va., William McKillop and wife, Judy, of Altoona, Pa., and Dale McKillop and wife, Gail, of Shelby; a daughter, Barbara Meal of Wheeling; nine grandchildren, Sean McKillop of Stephens, Va., Erin Miller and husband, Mike, of Fayetteville, Matt McKillop and wife, Molly, and Michael and Marc McKillop, all of Altoona, Kelly Meal of Temple, Texas, Katie Meal of Wheeling, and Jordan and Ian McKillop of Shelby; and a great-grandson, Andrew McKillop of Altoona.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jeffery Erbskorn officiating. Full military honors will be presented by the Air Force.
The family will receive friends Saturday 30 minutes before the service at the church and at other times at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Gail McKillop, 1815 Arbor Way Drive, Shelby.

John Paul
SHELBY — Mr. John Howard Paul, 62, of 4008 Sharon Circle, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at home.
Born in Piney Point, Md., he was a son of the late Richard C. Paul and Elmer Brower Paul Metz. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a bachelor’s degree in science and from Loyola University with a master’s degree in education. He worked for the state of Maryland in vocational education for 18 years and was a vocational case manager for 17 years. He was a member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Spartanburg, S.C.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Harper Paul; a son, Richard Paul and wife, Lara Swanson, of Raleigh; three daughters, Leila Duncan and husband, Chris, and Jennifer Paul, all of Tucson, Ariz., and Laura Cone and husband, Robert, of Tampa. Fla.; a brother, Les Paul and wife, Sylvia, of Lindale, Texas; a sister, Myralynn Metz of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren, Maggie, Keenan, Ben, Addison, Andrew and Molly; his mother-in-law, Rotha Harper of Arden; and several loving nieces and a nephew.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. John Rickert officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home an hour before the service.

Edward Mellon
YORK, S.C. — Mr. Edward Gene Mellon, 65, of 2558 Dr. Nichols Road, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at home.
Born March 14, 1940, in Cleveland County, he was a son of Mary Etta Wright Mellon Spain of Grover and the late Charles Ray Mellon Sr. He was employed by Celanese as a safety coordinator. He was a member of Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church in York.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Patricia Stewart Mellon of York; two daughters, Caprice A. Mellon of Durham and Teresa M. Cody of Rock Hill, S.C.; three brothers, Dean Mellon of Blacksburg, S.C., Wayne Mellon of York and Charles Mellon Jr. of Grover; a sister, Alice Wright of Virginia; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church in York, with the Rev. Thomas McPhail officiating.

BOSTIC — Mr. Thomas Brown, 86, of 898 Andrew Mills Road, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at home.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at New Vernon Baptist Church, with the Revs. J. K. Miller and R. D. Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday at the church two hours before the service.

Edna Jenkins
SHELBY — Mrs. Edna Washburn Jenkins, 107, of Crawley Memorial Hospital, formerly of the Double Springs Community, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
Born June 25, 1898, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late John Wright and Zoie White Wright. She was the oldest member of Double Springs Baptist Church, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher, pianist and choir member and a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. After graduating from Boiling Springs High School, she taught grades 4-7 for one year at Shanghai and grades 4-7 at Double Springs School for three years. She was also a homemaker and a farmer and later worked in the Lattimore High School cafeteria.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Purvis Washburn and George Jenkins; three sisters, Blooma Horn, Madge Brooks and Ethel Wright; two brothers, Harlie Wright and Vemo Wright; and a great-grandson, Christopher Giles.
She is survived by three sons, Eugene Washburn and wife, Betty, of Boiling Springs, Gerald Washburn and wife, Elvira, of Herndon, Va., and D. P. Washburn and wife, Lin, of Polkville; a daughter, Evelyn Giles and husband, Walter, of Mooresville; seven grandchildren, Cathy Boyd and husband, Jimmy, Libby Hamilton, Harry Washburn and wife, Sherwin, Doug Giles and wife, Kim, Steve Giles and wife, Jenny, Lisa Cadmus and husband, Scott, and Lori Inderkummen and husband, Jean-Pierre; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Double Springs Baptist Church, with the Revs. Brint Hilliard and Glenn Walker officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services.

RUTHERFORDTON — Mrs. Elizabeth Ownesby Conner, 65, of 103 C. L. Conner Trail, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at Rutherford Hospital.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Lewis Gunn Jr. officiating.

Clay Cabaniss
SHELBY — Mr. Charles Clay Cabaniss Sr., 87, of Polkville Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 13, 1918, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Mont Glenn and Bessie Horn Cabaniss. He graduated from Lattimore High School and attended N. C. State University. He was co-owner of Shelby Auto Parts Inc. and Lawndale Auto Parts. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, deacon, trustee and treasurer for 25 years. He was a member of the Shelby Central Lions Club for 60 years, where he served as president and was named a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was also a member of Lawndale Masonic Lodge No. 486 for 51 years, where he served as past master. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and Oasis Shrine Temple. He was a member of Gideon International and past director of the N.C. Automotive Association. He was a lifelong member of Cleveland Country Club, where he was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing many rounds of golf with his friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Vernie C. Piercy.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bertie Lee Hord Cabaniss; two daughters, Jane Gragg and husband, Gary, and Cathy Ledbetter and husband, Ron, all of Shelby; two sons, Charles Cabaniss and wife, Beth, and Mike Cabaniss and wife, Cinda, all of Shelby; eight grandchildren and spouses, Bryon and Allison Gragg, Jay and Jenny Gragg, Amy and Tommy Hammett, Jada and Doug Clay, David and Julie Ledbetter, Robbie and Nikki Ledbetter, Jonathan and DeAnna Ledbetter and Aaron Cabaniss; 10 great-grandchildren, Easton Clay Gragg, Dustin Cabaniss Clay and Bethany Clay, Jeremy, Jordan and Jonah Hammett and Logan, Taylor, Nicholas and Charlize Ledbetter; and a brother-in-law, Brooks Piercy.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, with Dr. Randy Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

SHILOH — Mr. Claude Eddy Luckadoo, 54, of Epley Road, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Walls Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Everette Camp
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Everette King Camp, 94, departed this life Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, after a short illness.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Jerry and Bessie Camp. He was once a member of Eskridge Grove Baptist Church. During his lifetime, he operated Carolinas Cleaners for many years, worked as a chef for Cleveland Country Club and part time at Shelby City Schools in the maintenance department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Gaither Connelly Camp; a son, Preston Foster Camp; and a sister, Rosa Camp Jamerson.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Jerry Ann Camp Hall of Providence, R.I., and Tina Webber of Shelby; a brother, Willis Camp of Shelby; a special nephew, Charles Jamerson of Shelby; a grandson, Anthony King Hall of Providence; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Withrow’s Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raper officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends Thursday an hour before the service at the funeral home.
