Mary Reynolds
CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Mary Ella Kate Cook Reynolds, 88, of Old Stubbs Road, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at Hospice at Wendover.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. James Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mildred Blanton
GASTONIA — Mildred Roberts Blanton, 77, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Courtland Terrace.
She was a native of Shelby and was a daughter of the late Edley and Molly Leigh Roberts.
She was a caregiver in assisted living and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Blanton, two brothers, a sister and a grandson.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Rita Blanton of Dallas, Bruce and Gail Blanton of Gastonia; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Mark Mauney of Gastonia and Dorothy Hale of Bessemer City; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at McLean Funeral Directors Founders Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 Monday at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive visitors today from 4 until 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Grace Greene
SHELBY — Grace Odessa Greene, 67, of Century Care of Shelby, formerly of Boiling Springs, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 6, 1938, in Cleveland County, she was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Annie Mae Ivester Greene; brothers, James “Nick” and George S. Greene; brothers-in-law, Horace L. Humphries, Glenn W. Morton and Bobby Moody.
She is survived by a sister, Mabel M. Moody of Boiling Springs, sister and her husband, Hazel H. Clark and J.D. Sr. of Shelby; sisters-in-law, Lucille P. Greene and Margie H. Greene and many nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cleveland Memorial Park with Dr. Carroll Page officiating.
The family will receive friends this evening at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and at other times at the home of her sister Hazel Clark, 208 Joseph Court, Shelby. Arrangements entrusted to Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
Vera Camp
MOORESBORO — Louvera Ruth Camp, 87, of 679 Durham Road, Mooresboro, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at Hospice House of Forest City.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at State Line Baptist Church with the Revs. John Godfrey, Don Bostic and Eddie Bolin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the church. The family will be at the residence. McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home is serving the family.
Melba Thornton
LAWNDALE — Mrs. Melba Sue Philbeck Thornton, 74, of 147 Acre Rock Road, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
Born Aug. 10, 1931, in Cleveland County, she retired as an inspector for Minette Mills of Grover and was a member of Friendly Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Weldon Thornton; father, G.B. Philbeck and mother, Lottie Philbeck Philbeck; three brothers, Ernest Philbeck, Everett Philbeck and Clyde Philbeck and one sister, Macie Mellon.
She is survived by sons, Charles Thornton of Belwood and Dennis Thornton of Casar; daughter, Irene Shalp of Shelby; sisters Frances Buff of Dysartsville and Dorothy Grant of Shelby; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Friendly Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Wade Boone and Hugh Moore officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Gertrude Adams
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Gertrude Adams, 92, of 310 E. Ridge St., died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005 at White Oak Manor nursing home in Kings Mountain.
She was born June 15, 1913, in Gaston County. She was the daughter of the late Ross and Lizzie Davis and the widow of the late Will Adams.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James Adams.
She is survived by her sons, Charles (Sarah) Adams, Roosevelt (Louise) Adams of Kings Mountain; daughter-in-law, Grace Adams; 15 grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Bynum Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, 213 N. Cansler St., Kings Mountain with Pastor William Puryear officiating.
Burial will be at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church and at other times at the home: 310 E. Ridge St.

Shelia Willis
CHERRYVILLE — Shelia Ann Willis, 39, of 829 Old Stubbs Road, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, in Columbia, in an auto accident.
She was a native of Cleveland County, the daughter of the late Bobby G. Willis Sr. and Ruby Cook of the home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
Inez Crowder
CHERRYVILLE— Inez Mode Crowder, 86, of 511 Max Crowder Drive, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Cherryville, born Nov. 26, 1918, the daughter of the late Clarence Dixon and Martha Hoyle Mode. She was an active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and a retired supervisor with Sweetree Manufacturing Co. in Cherryville. In addition to her parents, Inez was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Crowder Jr.; grandson, Charlie Crowder IV; brothers, Arch, Henry, Jim and Hughes Mode; sisters, Minnie Dellinger, Edna Bush, Beulah Reid, Juanita Beam, June Dodson and Nettie Sain.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, C.L. “Pete” and Carolyn Crowder III of Cherryville; daughter and son-in-law, Glenda C. and Bill Crawford of Kings Mountain; sister Velma Webb of Mooresville; special friend and caregiver, Dianne Heavner of Waco; grandchildren, Scott Crawford, Shane Crawford of Kings Mountain, Shelly Lovelace, Jeremy Jackson, Heath Jackson and John Jackson, all of Cherryville; and 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Wayne Key and Bob Baynard officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 at Carpenter’s Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Pete and Carolyn Crowder, 1226 Delview Road, Cherryville and at the home of Bill and Glenda Crawford, 753 McDaniel Road in Kings Mountain.

LAWNDALE — Nancy Jo Carpenter, 63, of 111 Lariat Lane, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Sandra Wright
GROVER — Sandra Shawn Callahan Wright, 45, of 124 Grace Lane, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a member of Faith Baptist Church and assistant manager at Pilot BP Truck Stop.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Lane Callahan and Sandra Kay Dobbins Callahan and a brother, Anthony Lane “Sparkie” Callahan.
She is survived by two brothers, Eric Callahan of Maiden and Keith Callahan of Grover; sister, Michelle Callahan Roberson of Grover; nieces, Sherry Callahan of Grover, Amy Callahan of Shelby and special friend, Lynn Cochran; five nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and nephews.
The memorial service is 6:30 Tuesday evening at Cleveland Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Jamie Ellis officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service. The family headquarters will be at the home, 124 Grace Lane, Grover.

FOREST CITY — Miss Joyce Hamrick, 77, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at Hospice House in Forest City.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Fadie Cicero and Lala Elizabeth Plemmons Hamrick. She was a retired bookkeeper and of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by sisters and spouse, Evelyn and Otho Norville of Forest City, Doris Jackson of Shelby; Nieces and husbands, Sondra and Steve Childres, Barbara and Steve Connell, Susan and Gary Davis, Freda and Ronald Padgett, Darlina Love, Sherri and Marty Gambill; nephew and spouse, Roger and Judy Hutchins.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Harrelson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the funeral home.

SHELBY — Mr. Jacob Junior Jackson, 81, of 505 Martin St., died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gene Pryor officiating.
The family will receive friends half an hour before the service at the funeral home.
