Henry Radford Jr.
JONESVILLE — Mr. Henry Radford Jr., 71, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 3, 1934, in Wayne County, he was a son of the late William and Ealia Elizabeth Sasser Radford. Before moving to Jonesville, he lived in Goldsboro, where he was employed with Rogers Furniture Co. He was a retired salesman with Electrolux Vacuum Corp. and was a faithful member of Charity Baptist Church in Boonville.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elbert and Earl Radford.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Julia “Ann” Alexander Radford of the home; two children, Elizabeth “Beth” Radford Smith and husband, Billy “Joe” Smith Jr., of East Bend, and Joseph “Bradley” Radford and wife, Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Fowler Radford, of Roanoke, Va.; two grandchildren, Daniel Joseph Smith of East Bend and Lauren Ashley Radford of Statesville; a brother, James Malcolm Radford and wife, Frances, of Goldsboro; two sisters-in-law, Blanche Radford and Hilda Radford, both of Goldsboro; and a special friend, Gene Parks of Statesville.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Charity Baptist Church, with the Revs. Eddie Driver and Doug Radford and Bradley Radford officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville from 7 to 9 p.m.

Brenda McCollum
FLAT ROCK — Mrs. Brenda Sue McCollum, 63, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Revs. Michael Morrison and Jack Crain officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

CHERRYVILLE — Mr. Kenneth Andrew Grubb, 74, of 701 Hillsdale Drive, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Hospice at Wendover.
A graveside service will be Friday at 3 p.m. at City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and at other times at the home.

SHELBY — Lynette Juanay Flack, infant daughter of Jelinda Hopper and Santana Flack, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005.

Madge Baber
SHELBY — Mrs. Madge Lattimore Harris Baber, 96, formerly of Alterra Sterling House of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Century Care of Shelby.
Born Sept. 2, 1908, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Madison Phylector and Azelia Thompson Lattimore. She was employed for 15 years at Agriculture Adjustment Administration. Her first job was with Conservative Life Insurance and she worked with the county school superintendent and Central United Methodist Church. Her last job was secretary with Spangler and Sons Concrete. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Hoey Bible Class, United Methodist Women and Prayer Group.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas G. Harris; her second husband, Wilbur H. Baber; and a son, James Thomas Harris.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Catherine Howard; a sister, Glennie L. Blanton and husband, Marshall, of Shelby; a daughter-in-law, Cathy R. Harris of Shelby; a stepson, Jack Baber of Asheville; a stepdaughter, Martha B. Gandy of Rockingham; six stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, with Drs. John Boggs and Joe Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday in the ladies parlor of the church an hour before the service.

Lula McGinnis
BOILING SPRINGS — Mrs. Lula Ellis McGinnis, 93, of Crawley Memorial Hospital, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 22, 1911, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late J. G. and Mary Guyton Ellis. She was a homemaker and a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Furman C. McGinnis; a brother, Frank Ellis; and a son-in-law, Grady E. Walker.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty McGinnis Walker of Shelby; a grandson, Eddie Walker of Shelby; a granddaughter, Cheryl Walker Peeler and husband, Joe, of Shelby; and a great-granddaughter, Michele Martin Cogdell and husband, Michael, of Casar.
A graveside service is today at 5 p.m. at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Revs. Ken Pruitt and Paul Sorrells officiating.
The family will receive friends today at the cemetery immediately following the service and at other times at the home of Cheryl and Joe Peeler, 221 Webb Road, Shelby.

SHELBY — Mrs. Maggie Hamrick Gilliam, 99, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at White Oak Manor.

SHELBY — Mr. Robert Lewis Wray, 53, of 316 Martin St., died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Talmadge Wright
KANNAPOLIS — Mr. Talmadge Lee Wright, 92, of 1002 Ruth Ave., passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at home, with his wife at his side following a brief period of declining health.
Born Aug. 24, 1912, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Forrest Clifton Wright and Minnie Belle Toney Wright. He moved to Kannapolis from Shelby in 1935. He was employed at Cannon Mills Co., Plant No. 1 Sheet Dept. for 35 years until his retirement in 1977. He was also a self-employed professional photographer for many years. He was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church in Kannapolis. He loved woodworking and built furniture for many local churches.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Stanley Wright, and a sister, Vernie Pauline Wright.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ethel Green Wright; a son, Robert Lee Wright and wife, Cherry Keller Wright, of Kannapolis; two granddaughters, Sylvia Wright Barnhardt and Cynthia Wright Johnson, both of Midland; a stepgrandson, Christopher Loman of Kannapolis; four great-grandchildren he loved dearly; two brothers, Stough Broughton Wright of Hampton, Va., and Royal Blaine Wright of Kannapolis; and two sisters, Janelle Sifford and Shirley Sifford, both of Rockwell.
The funeral is today at 3 p.m. at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis, with the Rev. Dallas Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today at the funeral home an hour before the service and at other times at the home.

Royal Wright
KANNAPOLIS — Mr. Royal Blane Wright, 88, formerly of 304 Maple Ave., died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Five Oaks Nursing Center in Concord after a period of declining health.
Born Oct. 8, 1916, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Forrest Clifton Wright and Minnie Belle Toney Wright. He was employed with Cannon Mills Co., Plant No. 1, for many years until his retirement in 1981. He was a veteran of the Army, having served during World War II. In the service he received five overseas service bars and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the VFW Poston-Perkins Post 8989 and First Baptist Church in Kannapolis. He had been a resident of the area since 1941.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Sutton Wright; two brothers, Marshall Wright and Talmadge Lee Wright; and a sister, Pauline Wright.
He is survived by a brother, Stough Broughton Wright of Hampton, Va.; two sisters, Janelle Sifford and Shirley Sifford, both of Rockwell; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service, with military rites by the D.A.V., Chapter 27, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, with Dr. Thomas E. Cabaniss officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Norma Campbell
SNEEDVILLE, Tenn. — Mrs. Norma Livesay Campbell, 78, passed away Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, at home.
She was a daughter of the late E. D. (Ned) and Carrie Livesay. She was a faithful member of Sneedville United Methodist Church. She retired from the Upper East Tennessee Head Start Program after 30 years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray J. Campbell; a son, Ray J. Campbell Jr.; and a sister, Lenora Livesay Wallen.
She is survived by two daughters, Marta Campbell and Carole Campbell Misenheimer and husband, David; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Campbell Colburn; a sister, Joyce Livesay Mabe; eight grandchildren, Karen Campbell Dean, Kevin Campbell, Meghan, Marleen, Madeline and Michael Welsh, Neena Misenheimer Malosky and Leslie Misenheimer; and two great-grandchildren, Tanner Dean and Kelsey Rhea Campbell.
A memorial service is today at 3:30 p.m. at Sneedville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Frank Clifton officiating.
The family will receive friends today at the church before the service from 2 to 3:30.
