CHARLOTTE — Mr. A. V. Yarbro, 77, of 7325 McWhirter Road, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Sunday, May 29, 2005, at Carolinas Medical Center.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain, with the Rev. Janice Combs officiating.
Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.
The family will receive friends Thursday at Harris Funeral Home from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
George Costner
LAWNDALE — Mr. George Daniel Costner, 83, of 320 W. Main St., died Monday, May 30, 2005, at home.
Born Jan. 7, 1922, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Andrew Clifton Costner and Ola Mae Self Costner. He was retired from Cleveland Mills. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the European Theater and received five bronze stars. He was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Cleveland County Rose Society. His rose garden was a special blessing to the community and at one time he had more than 700 varieties of roses in his garden. He won many awards for his roses including the King and Queen Awards.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Archie Dean Costner, and a special aunt and uncle, Emma Turner and Charlie Costner.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred Brackett Costner; a daughter and son-in-law, Hilda Brackett and the Rev. Eddie Brackett of Wendell; three sisters, Edna Russ of Morganton, Willie Mae Carpenter of Cherryville and Mary Helen and Alfred Asherbraner of Hickory; two granddaughters, Amee Brackett of Raleigh and Jennifer Walton and husband, the Rev. Matt Walton, of Wendell.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Morris Memorial Baptist Church of Casar, with the Revs. Eddie Brackett, Matt Walton and Christopher Emory officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today at the church from 12:30 to 1:30.

Troy Brittain
LAWNDALE — Mr. Troy Brittain, 47, of 1133 E. Stagecoach Trail, died Monday, May 30, 2005, at home.
Born Oct. 11, 1957, in Cleveland County, he was a son of Bonnie Lee Brittain and the late Forrest Brittain. He was a well-loved charter member of Adventure House, where he had participated for the past 18 years. He was a member of Plains View Baptist Church, where he was the ringer of the church bell.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Judy Hunt and husband, Leonard, of Fallston and Barbara Ann Devenny and husband, Herman, of Cherryville; two nieces, Shelly Stinchcomb of Fallston and Dena Pittman of Lawndale; and two great-nieces, Macy Stinchcomb and Morgan Pittman.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Plains View Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Ewing officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday at the church an hour before the service.

Ollie McSwain
BOILING SPRINGS — Mrs. Ollie Daves Webb McSwain, 89, of 102 E. College Manor Drive, formerly of Webb Farm Road, Shelby, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at home.
Born in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late W. F. Daves and Belle Zora Melton Daves. She was a homemaker and a retired owner and operator of Webb Farm Gin. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a graduate of Mooresboro High School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Vernon Selier Webb and Everette W. McSwain; a brother, Abram Daves; and a brother-in-law, James H. Hooker.
She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Stan Webb and wife, Wanda, of Boiling Springs and the Rev. David Webb and wife, Nancy, of Connelly Springs; six grandchildren, Chris Webb, Todd Webb and wife, April, Keith Webb, and Laura McCollum and husband, Jeff, all of Greensboro, Michelle Strickland and husband, Peter, of Boiling Springs and Melanie Willis and husband, Bradley, of Shelby; six great-grandchildren, Brian and Breanna Webb and Tyler and Kyle Webb, all of Greensboro, and Kate Strickland and Destinee Hill, both of Boiling Springs; a sister, Stella Daves Hooker of Boiling Springs; and five step-grandchildren, Sabrina Miller of Greensboro, Misti Belton of Winston-Salem, Nathan Fisher and wife, Heather, of Forest City, Stephen Fisher of Shelby and Adam Fisher of Boiling Springs.
The funeral is tonight at 7 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, with Dr. Terry Cagle and the Rev. Andy Oliver officiating. A private burial will be held in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight at the church from 5:30 to 7 and at other times at the home of the Rev. Stan and Wanda Webb, 131 Creekside Drive, Boiling Springs.

ELLENBORO — Mr. James Edwin Horn, 73, of 465 Hwy. 74 Business East, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at the VA Medical Center in Asheville.

FOREST CITY — Mr. Leonard “Pete” Byers, 64, of 186 Byers Road, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Caroleen First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Steve Kiser, Roy Byers and Wayne Toney officiating. Burial will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

Marsha Davis
GREENSBORO — Miss Marsha Rae Davis, of Castle Croft Road, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Moses Cone Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of Martha Mauney Davis and the late Ray Dean Davis. She worked for 16 years as Operations Manager for the Center of Creative Leadership. She was a very active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She inspired us all with her love of life and laughter, her wonderful hugs and bright smile. She will be missed by all.
In addition to her loving mother, she is survived by a brother, Joseph Dean Davis and wife, Donna, and the light of her heart, her nephew, Michael (Scoobie) Davis, and Elizabeth (Bethie) and Alex (Allie Marie) Julian; and a special uncle, Dale Mauney and wife, Betty, of Shelby. Also surviving are special family friends the Sheppard, Julian and Johnson families and all of the families have been an inspiration.
Martha, Joey, Donna and Michael wish to thank our church family for their love and support, Dr. Ennever and the staff at Regional Cancer Center, the members of Clifton Roads Baptist Church, and the staff and nurses at Hospice Care of Greensboro and Moses Cone Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church. A graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery in Shelby.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the Cornerstone Baptist Church Family Life Center immediately following the service.
Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Building Fund at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 5736 Inman Road, Greensboro, NC 27410 or Hospice of Greensboro.
