BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mr. Christopher Glenn Carroll, 24, of 105 Ridge Road, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, in Blacksburg.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Church of God in Kings Mountain, with the Rev. Bruce Harry II officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.
The family will receive friends tonight at the church from 6 to 8.

Edith Clark
SHELBY — Mrs. Edith Mae Clark, 70, of 908 Fallston Road, died Monday, May 30, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Patience Mae Clark and Johnny Russell. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Clara Mae Clark of Shelby; a brother, Charlie David Clark of Lawndale; and a sister, Lillie Mae Hush of Forest City.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder James Benton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday at the church 30 minutes before the service.

Buren Vassey
ELLENBORO — Mr. Buren Harris Vassey, 75, of 507 Race Path Church Road, died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Hospice House of Rutherford County.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late William Ernest and Guinetta Harris Vassey. He was a retired supervisor with Container Corporation of America. He was a member of Race Path Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Dot) Shires Vassey; a son, Roger Vassey and wife, Jackie, of Boiling Springs; a daughter, Rhonda Collins and husband, Berry, of Forest City; four brothers, Earl Vassey of Westminister, S.C., Joe Vassey of Peru, Ind., and Nelson Vassey and Houston Vassey, both of Seneca, S.C.; four sisters, Osteen Bright, Marjorie Bryant and Anitra Reid, all of Seneca, and Joan Fergason of Spartanburg, S.C.; four grandchildren, Leslie Sneed, Summer McMurry, Ben Collins and Morgan Blanton; three great-grandchildren, Wade Sneed, Riley Sneed and Logan Sneed; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Race Path Baptist Church, with the Revs. Lance Scarlett, John Godfrey and Joe Kanipe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside from 7 to 9 p.m.

Buddy Arant
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. William “Buddy” L. Arant, 63, of 117 Muirfield Drive, died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at home.
Born in York, S.C., he was a son of the late Terence Goodwin and Lillian Latham Arant. He retired after 20 years as district manager at Harris Teeter. After retirement, he became the owner of a Pepperidge Farm franchise. He was a member of New Camp Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Keith Arant.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Evie Boyd Arant; a son, Ronnie Arant of Shelby; a daughter, Christi Sloop and husband, Michael, of Wesley Chapel; and five grandchildren, Sydney, Tyler and Cody Arant and Riley and Caleb Sloop.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Stroup officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home from 1 to 2 p.m. and at other times at the home.

Jimmy Peeler
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Mr. Jimmy Lee “Zone” Peeler, 47, died Sunday, May 29, 2005, in San Bernardino.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late William Lee and Elsie Surratt Peeler. He was a veteran of the Army and was employed as a mail clerk at San Bernardino Community College. He was a member of the Acts of Faith Seventh Day Adventist Church and former member of Ramseur Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Necatur and Gertrude Surratt and Ozone and Frances Peeler; and uncles, Devoda, David and A.V. Surratt.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Berry Peeler; a brother, Richard Ezell Surratt (Victoria) of Lawndale; two sisters, Anderia Denise Sowell (Calvin) of Charlotte and Gertrude Renea Bradshaw (Lewis) of Polkville; two uncles, Robert E. Surratt (Ruby) and R.B. Surratt (Azalee), both of Shelby; two aunts, Louise Surratt of Lawndale and Sadie Pryor of Shelby, who was like a mother to him; a great-aunt, Mabell Surratt Lipscomb; a niece, LaQuetta Surratt of Lawndale; and two nephews, Necota Surratt of Lawndale and Lamar Peeler of Shelby.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ramseur Baptist Church in Shelby, with the Rev. Billy Ramseur officiating. Burial will follow in Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lawndale.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service. The family will be at 3539 Rube Spangler Road, Lawndale.

Boyd Sisk
CAROLEEN — Mr. Boyd Robert Sisk, 67, of 236 Henrietta St. Ext., died Tuesday, May 31, 2005.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Bishop Gene Crain officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday at Harrelson Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m.
Houston Brown
SHELBY — Mr. Houston Brown, 89, of 2422 Elizabeth Ave. died Monday, May 30, 2005, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
Born June 1, 1916, in Spartanburg, S.C., he was a son of the late Houston and Nora McClain Brown. He joined Old Ellis Chapel Church at an early age and later became a member of Williford Temple Holiness Church in Shelby. He retired from Hedricks Construction Company in Hickory.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Samuel Brown and Jimmy Brown; and a grandson, Troy Parrish.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nerva Jane Smith-Brown of the home; five daughters, Pauline Parish, Betty (Robert) Stroud, Ann Mauney, and Sandra (Clifton) Wilson, all of Shelby, and Rebecca Gamble of Bessemer City; four sons, Steve (Diana) Brown, Joe Brown, and Sylvester Brown, all of Shelby, and Calvin (Valerie) Brown of Kings Mountain; 38 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Williford Temple Holiness Church, with Bishop Andrew Williford officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the church an hour before the service.

CHERRYVILLE — Mr. Robert Howard “Rob” Clawson III, 59, of 202 N. Jacob St., died Friday, May 27, 2005, at home.

Carlton Cox
SENECA, S.C. — Mr. Carlton Cox, 75, of 341 Cox Road, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
A native of Anderson County, he was the son of the late Alex B. and Mary Brock Cox. He served in the Army and was a retired police office with Clemson University. He attended Hepsibah Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Marty Benjamin Cox, and a brother, Elmer Cox.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Terry Cox of Seneca; two sons, Terry Carlton Cox and wife, Cathy, of Seneca and Roger S. Cox and wife, Amber, of Shelby; two brothers, Edgar Cox of Pickens, S.C., and James Cox of Atlanta; a sister, Gatha Broome of Seneca; and four grandchildren, Denver Cox, Erin Cox, Brandy Franklin and Cory Franklin.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Davenport Funeral Home Chapel in Walhalla, S.C.
Burial will follow in Oconee Memorial Park.

Marty Cox
SENECA, S.C. — Marty Benjamin Cox, 47, of 341 Cox Road, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
A native of Oconee County, he was a son of Ruth Terry Cox of Seneca and the late Carlton Cox. He was a graduate of Seneca High School, an employee of West Point Stevens and attended Hepsibah Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Terry Carlton Cox and wife, Cathy, of Seneca and Roger S. Cox and wife, Amber, of Shelby, and best friend, Kathy Burns of Seneca.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Davenport Funeral Home Chapel in Walhalla, S.C.
Burial will follow in Oconee Memorial Park.
