The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mount Beulah Baptist Church, with the Revs. Andrew Royals and Fain Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

ELLENBORO — Mrs. Madge Jenkins, 79, of 122 Dobbins Road, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Race Path Baptist Church, with the Revs. Lance Scarlet and John Godfrey officiating. Entombment will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church an hour before the service.

LINCOLNTON — Ms. Dorothy Ann Jefferies Horne, 49, of 1447 Rhodes Rhyne St., died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Wilma Holman
SHELBY — Mrs. Wilma Hollar Holman, 80, of 210 Ware St., died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Carolina Rehab of Burke in Connelly Springs.
Born July 31, 1924, in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late John Hollar and Elvia Smith Hollar. She retired from local retail sales and was a member of Westwood Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd H. Holman.
She is survived by a son, Larry Holman and wife, Becky, of Shelby; a daughter, Peggy Strack and husband, Chuck, of Lenoir; a brother, Willard Hollar of Colorado; a sister, Irene Hollar and husband, Bobby, of Granite Falls; four grandchildren, Carol Toney and husband, Horace, of Boiling Springs, David Young and wife, Karen, of Granite Falls, Lisa McNichol and husband, Tom, of Shelby, and Kenneth Young and wife, Robbie, of Granite Falls; five great-grandchildren, Whitney Young, Adam Hammond, Kristin Hammond, Makenzie Young and Andrew McNichol.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jimmy Black officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and at other times at the home.

Lula Mae Wortman
LAWNDALE — Mrs. Lula Mae Carpenter Wortman, 84, of 1243 Casar Lawndale Road, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born Sept. 12, 1920, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Ruben Lee Carpenter and Cordie Elizabeth Cook Carpenter. She was a retired sale clerk with Stamey Stores, Inc. She was the oldest lifetime member of Casar United Methodist Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher and former member of the Casar Home Demonstration Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde Carpenter, O.T. Carpenter, Dewey Carpenter and Bill Carpenter; and three sisters, Mabel Whisnant, Mozelle Tillman and Ruby Bowman.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lawton David Wortman; two daughters, Barbara Williams and husband, David, and Gayle Williams and husband, Floyd, all of Casar; six grandchildren, Mike Williams and wife, Pam, and Debbie Eaker and husband, Gary, all of Shelby, Tammy Newton and husband, Joel, and Floyd Williams Jr. and wife, Carrie, all of Lawndale, Jeff Williams and wife, Jami of Fallston, and Matthew Williams and wife, Andriean, of Lawndale; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Casar United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Ben Steele and Larry Thompson and Mr. Jeff Williams officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Stamey Funeral Home tonight from 6 to 8.

RUTHERFORDTON — Mr. John Kendall Morrison, 25, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, in Rutherfordton.

Lottie Capps
SHELBY — Mrs. Lottie Mae Mooney Capps, 93, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at the Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 31, 1912, in Rutherford County but lived most of her life in Shelby. Her parents were the late James Webb and Laura Miranda Greene Mooney. She worked at Shelby Mill as a spinner until her retirement in 1970. Her family was a very important part of her life. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garwood Capps; a son, Robert Edward Capps; a granddaughter, Tamara Suzanne Parris; a great-grandson, Kenny Wayne Parris; three sisters; and two brothers.
She is survived by two daughters, Doris (Dot) Capps Hardin of Cornelius and Shirley Capps Drewery of Shelby; a son, Thomas Wayne Capps of Belmont; a special son-in-law and caregiver, Jim Hardin of Cornelius; nine grandchildren, Belinda Capps Campbell of New Bern, Steve Capps of Stanley, Stan Capps of Dalton, Ga., Sheila Capps Mitchem of Forest City, Keith Parris of Shelby, Donna Capps Finley of Belmont, Brent Capps of Columbia, S.C., Lori Hardin Austin of Cornelius and Lisa Hardin Blanton of Cary; 19 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home for the love and care they gave Mrs. Capps, also to the caring people of Hospice at Lake Norman — Kris Chapman, Jill Beard, Rita Smith and Chaplain Rick Felts. Words cannot express the gratitude we have for all these people, plus all the cards, flowers, visits and concerns friends have shown during the past eight months.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel, with Bobby Smith and Stan Capps officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.

Jewel Costner
SHELBY — Ms. Jewel Bernice Costner, 79, of 334 Sunrise Circle, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Clem Sylvanus Costner and Ada Devine Costner. She was a member of Pioneer Workers of America and retired from Southern Bell Company.
She is survived by a sister, Virginia Costner of Charlotte; three brothers, Robert “Bob” Costner and William Herman “Bill” Costner, both of Shelby, and Warren Carroll Costner and wife, Isle, of Sumter, S.C.; three nieces, Stephannie Costner, Sherry Costner and Christie Mier; a nephew, Bobby Bridges and wife, Sharlene; two great-nieces, Jenna Halsell and Marissa Smallwood; and five great-nephews, Andrew Bridges, Trey Smallwood, Brandon Wood, Bucky Wood and Michael Costner.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel, with the Rev. Kitty Rankin officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
