ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Mr. Charles Beam, formerly of Shelby, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at Alhambra Nursing Center in St. Petersburg.

Elizabeth Condrey
CLIFFSIDE — Mrs. Elizabeth Hawkins Condrey, 82, of 275 Beason Road, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at home.
Born in Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Zeno and Margaret Hawkins. She taught elementary school at Avondale, Harris, Caroleen and Tri-Elementary schools for many years before retiring. She was a member of Cliffside Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Hawkins and Alfred (Buck) Hawkins; and two sisters, Meredith (Daughter) Hawkins and Lila (Sister) Hawkins Hodge.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Charles Condrey; two sons, Ronald Charles Condrey and wife, Lou Newman, of Raleigh and John Walton Condrey of Cliffside; a sister, Catherine Hawkins Smart of Cliffside; two sisters-in-law, Laverne (Bud) Black of Cliffside and Corene Barnett Condrey of Forest City; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cliffside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in Cliffside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home tonight from 6 to 8.

Madgelene Peeler
PATTERSON SPRINGS — Mrs. Madgelene White Peeler, 77, of 106 Shaw St., died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born April 23, 1927, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Mack White and Maggie Terry White. She retired from Celanese Corp.
She is survived by a son, Lamar Peeler of Patterson Springs; a daughter, Ann Kimbrell of Shelby and fiancé, Mike Mosley of Gaffney, S.C.; a granddaughter, Kimberly Peeler of Patterson Springs; a grandson, Eric Kimbrell and wife, Michelle, of Lawndale; two great-grandsons, Eric Keith Kimbrell and Michael Kimbrell; and special friends, Jacob Martin and Sandy McIntyre.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6 to 7:30.

Michael Hensley
CHESNEE, S.C. — Mr. Michael Hensley, 52, of 426 Dillon St., died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
The funeral is tonight at 7 p.m. at Piney Mountain Baptist Church, with the Rev. Andrew Gowan officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service.

Raeford Wright
LAWNDALE — Mr. Charles Raeford Wright, 77, of 142 Cap Wright Road, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at Century Care of Shelby.
Born Sept. 25, 1927, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Cap Ed Wright and Cora Lee Shalp Wright. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after 42 years of service in the landscape department. He was a member of Friendly Chapel Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Sisk; a great-grandson, David Alexander Walker; a brother, Douglas Wright; and a sister, Dorothy Rudasill.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Addie Mae Bingham Wright; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Michael Okuszki and Nancy and Gary Elmore, all of Lawndale; a granddaughter and family, Tonya and David Walker and daughter, Morgan, of Casar; a grandson and family, Donnie and Towana Sisk and children, Brooklyn and Noah, of Lawndale; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Ruby Wright of Lawndale; a brother-in-law, Ralph Rudasill of Claremont; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and George Falls, Hazel and Raymond Haskins and Carole and Roy Price, all of Lawndale; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Wright.
The funeral is tonight at 7 at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Max Pendleton and Renee Lewis officiating. A graveside service will be Wednesday at noon at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 5:30 to 7.

SHELBY — Mr. Bobby Gene “Snake” Abrams, 62, of 214 Black St., died Feb. 24, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Genesis Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Kenneth Martin officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home 30 minutes before the service.
The family will meet at the home of his sister, Carolyn Abrams at 708 Park Ave. in Shelby.
Mary Blanton
FOREST CITY — Mrs. Mary Sue Holland Blanton, 91, of 153 Sunnyside St., died Monday Feb. 28, 2005, in Forest City.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Wayne Ratcliffe and Don Freshour officiating. The body will be placed in the church from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday in the church fellowship building from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Calvin Dixon
STATESVILLE — The Rev. Calvin Wayne Dixon, 79, of 1108 Wood St., died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Iredell Memorial Hospital, after a brief two-month illness.
Born Sept. 28, 1925, in Statesville, he was a son of the late Elcie and Grace Haithcox Dixon. A graduate of Statesville Senior High School, he entered the Navy on Feb. 6, 1943, during World War II and served on the original Yorktown and later the Roosevelt. While in the Navy, he became a licensed pilot. Returning to civilian life after the war, he flew cadets in the Civil Air Patrol in the Statesville Squadron. Later, he served with the Statesville Police Department before becoming a trooper with the N. C. State Highway Patrol in 1950.
The Rev. Dixon entered the ministry in 1960 while attending Gardner-Webb University, Mars Hill College and Southeastern Theological Seminary at Wake Forest. He pursued doctoral studies at Union Seminary in Richmond, Va. He has served as pastor to churches in Washington, D.C. and throughout North Carolina, including Cleveland, Rutherford, Buncombe, Wake, Mecklenburg, Ashe, Allegheny and Iredell counties. He has most recently been serving as stated pastoral supply at Love Valley Presbyterian Church for 10 years.
His life-long passion for aviation kept him flying until his death. He also was an active member of the Statesville Airport Commission.
He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Lay Dixon; three children and grandchildren, Kathy Dixon Morris of Gastonia and son, Barton H. Ramsey of Chapel Hill, Gary Wayne Dixon of Glendale Springs and son, Dustin Dixon and Charles “Chuck” Timothy Dixon and wife, Lori Marvin Dixon, of Statesville and daughter, Bridget; a brother, John R. Dixon of Statesville; and two sisters, Ruth Dixon Keever and Mae Dixon, both of Statesville.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Don McSwain of Shelby and former State Senator Bill Redmond officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6:30 to 8.

BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mr. W. C. Davis Jr., 79, of 123 Old Factory Road, died Feb. 27, 2005, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney.
A celebration of life service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church, with Dr. Charlie Barnard and the Revs. Willie Lanier and Jesse Powers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

SHELBY — Mrs. Anita Diane Cline Deyton, 47, of 319 Davis Road, died Sunday Feb. 27, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Ruth Steagall
GAFFNEY, S.C. — Mrs. Ruth Jones Steagall, 84, of 402 Buck Shoals Road, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at home.
Born in Gaffney, she was a daughter of the late Horace Jones and Rosa Parker Jones. She was the retired co-owner of Steagall Auto Electric and retired pianist for the Crusaders Quartet. She was a member of Chesnee Free Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.W. Steagall.
She is survived by a daughter, Myram Jackson of Gaffney; four sons, Frank E. Jones of Auburndale, Fla., Ben Steagall of Union, S.C., James Steagall of Shelby and William Steagall Sr. of La Paz, Mexico; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. James Childers and Stephen Matheny officiating. Burial will follow in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Bill Steagall, William Steagall Jr., Marc Parris, Michael Butler, LeRoy Joyce and Robert O’Neal.
