SPINDALE — Mr. Glenn James, 93, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Hospice House.

The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Spindale United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends Sunday at the church an hour before the service.

Crowe’s Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Catherine Young

SHELBY — Ms. Catherine Moore Young, 79, of 401 Walker Ridge Drive, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Hospice at Wendover.

Enloe Mortuary will announce arrangements.

Pearl Parker

ELLENBORO — Mrs. Pearl Pleasant Parker, 81, formerly of Ellenboro, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Willow Ridge in Rutherfordton.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, with the Revs. Scott Butler and David Coffey officiating.

Burial will follow in Trinity Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight at the funeral home from 7 to 9.

Michael Webb

MOORESBORO — Mr. Michael B. Webb, 55, of 359 S. Pea Ridge Road, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Rutherford Hospital.

The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernie Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight at the funeral home from 7 to 9.

Gladys Adams

SHELBY — Mrs. Gladys Newton Adams, 77, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Brian Nursing Center in Brevard.

Cleveland Funeral Services will announce arrangements.

Anita Deyton

SHELBY — Mrs. Anita Diane Cline Deyton, 47, of 319 Davis Road, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service is 2 p.m. Friday at High Shoals Baptist Cemetery with the Revs. Billy Bowen and Jack Crain officiating.

The family will receive visitors tonight from 6 until 7:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home is serving the family.

Nancy Conner

GASTONIA — Mrs. Nancy Peck Conner, 68, of 2608 Armstrong Park Road, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Born in Albemarle and raised in Shelby, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Irene Taylor Peck. She was a homemaker and a long-time member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Magnolia Garden Club, the Gastonia Debutante Club, the Gaston Medical Auxiliary, the Ya-Ya Bridge Club, and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Gaston County.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dr. Joel D. Conner; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joel D. Jr. and Cheryl Conner, Michael and Lisa Conner, and David and Josie Conner, all of Gastonia; 11 grandchildren, Drew Conner, Brett Conner, Haley Conner, Laura Conner, Garrett Cox, Meredith Cox, Matthew Conner, Zachary Conner, Benjamin Conner, Harrison Conner and Emma Conner; a brother and sister-in-law, Lewis B. and Sara Peck of Concord; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Anna and Dr. P. Z. Dunn of Greensboro, Irene and Dr. Robert Jordan of Sanford and Teeny and John Anthony of Winston Salem.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Jim Westmoreland and the Rev. Jack Kayler officiating. Entombment will follow at the Mausoleum of Peace at Gaston Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday at McLean Funeral Directors from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Music Fund, First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 218, Gastonia, NC 28053-0218.

Bobby Abrams

SHELBY — Mr. Bobby Gene “Snake” Abrams, 62, of 214 Black St., departed this life on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 10, 1942, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late T. J. and Carrie Ramseur Abrams.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Haywood Abrams, Tom Abrams and Jerry Abrams.

He is survived by two sons, Rodney L. Abrams and Kim (Terry) Howell, both of Shelby; three daughters, Connie Abrams of Gaffney, S.C., Adrien Abrams of Fort Hood, Texas, and Leslie Howell of Spartanburg, S.C.; four sisters, Carolyn Abrams and Betty A. Beasley, both of Shelby, Louise Abrams of Forest City and Linda Abrams of Columbus, Ohio; three stepsons; two stepdaughters; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Genesis Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Kenneth Martin officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home 30 minutes before the service.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesis Funeral Chapel.

Martha Tessinear

HENRIETTA — Mrs. Martha Adair Tessinear, 63, of 171 Hog Pen Branch Road, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Park Ridge Hospital in Fletcher.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Reid Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight at the funeral home from 6 to 8:30.

Robert Smith Jr.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Robert Lee “Bob” Smith Jr., 66, of 505 Garrison Drive, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Kings Mountain Hospital.

Born in Seneca, S.C., he was a son of the late Robert Lee Smith Sr. and Christine Phillips Smith. He was owner of Robert L. Smith Insurance Agency in Kings Mountain for 31 years. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain, where he has served as an administrative board member, a youth coordinator and a mission volunteer. He was treasurer of the White Plains Shrine Club in Kings Mountain and a member of the Fairview Masonic Lodge in Kings Mountain. He was on the board of directors for the Kings Mountain Country Club. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. and an avid fan and member of the Gamecock Club.

He is survived by his wife, MaryWade O’Kelley Smith of Kings Mountain; a son, Robert Lee Smith III and wife, Lisa, of Boiling Springs; two daughters, O’Kelley Smith Broadway and McLendon “Wendy” Smith Winstead and husband, Michael, all of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Katherine Smith Wofford and Robbie Smith Selby, both of Spartanburg, S.C.; and three grandchildren, Rebecca Carlisle Broadway, Austin O’Kelley Broadway and Anderson “Andie” Walker Winstead.

A memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Janice Combs, Harrison Henson and John Houze officiating. Interment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

A Masonic service is today at 5:30 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel.

The family will receive friends tonight at Harris Funeral Home from 6 to 8.

Mildred Brackett

BELWOOD — Mrs. Mildred Miller Brackett, 91, of 109 Old Belwood Road, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born May 8, 1913, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late William Lafayette Miller and Sarah Etta Champion Miller. She was a secretary at Cleveland Mills for 15 years and a salesperson for Stamey Stores. She was a member of Kadesh United Methodist Church, where she was a former choir member, a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years, a former member of the Belwood Home Demonstration Club and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 282 in Fallston. She was a graduate of Kings Business College.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. W. Brackett; six brothers, Lawrence, Everette, Banks, Carl, Chalmus and Dewey Miller; and five sisters, Macie Rollins, Selma McMurry, Kathleen Ormand, Minnie Tickle and Helen Allen.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas W. Brackett and wife, Debbie, of Moyock and Samuel R. Brackett of Belwood; a daughter, Peggy McCombs and husband, Elbert, of Douglasville, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Dustin Brackett, Jacob Brackett, Micah Brackett, Rebekah Thomas, Leah Byrd, Jeremiah Brackett, Brian McCombs and Kevan McCombs; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mamie Devinney of Mount Pleasant, S.C. and Jeanette Horn of Lawndale.

The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Kadesh United Methodist Church, with Dr. Robert Parsons Jr. and the Rev. Joe McMurry officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight at Stamey Funeral Home from 6 to 8.

Memorials may be made to Kadesh United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 689, Fallston, NC 28042.

Robin McDaniel

BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Robin Karen McDaniel, 43, of 207 Cherokee Falls Road, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Melvin Hampton and Jerry Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive visitors tonight from 6:30 to 8 at White Columns of Blacksburg and at other times at her mother’s home at 205 Cherokee Falls Road.

Margaret Ledford

SHELBY — Mrs. Margaret Campbell Ledford, 78, of 6906 Juniper Terrace, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late William and Maude Campbell. She was a homemaker and a member of Campfield Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Z. Ledford; a daughter, Barbara Ledford Winn; and a grandson, Joel David Ledford.

She is survived by a son, Roger David Ledford and wife, Gladys, of Forest City; three daughters, Patricia Hudson and husband, Kenneth, of Bellwood, Betty Mason, and Joyce Griffin and husband, Scott, all of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Crissy Sisk, Beverly Self, Amber Ledford, Kenny Hudson, Dale Hudson, Neil Hudson, Chris Ledford and Larry Ledford; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home an hour before the service.

Donald Holland

LINCOLNTON — Mr. Donald S. Holland, 63, of 709 E. Sycamore St., died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Lincoln Medical Center.

Born March 17, 1941, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Lester Chapman Holland and Ethel Mae Holland Holland. He was retired from Cochrane Furniture as an upholsterer. He was a member of United Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Fay Jenkins Holland of the home; four sons, Timothy Holland of Mount Holly, Greg Holland of Lincolnton, Chad Holland of Vale and Brian Holland and wife, Berie, of Lake Wylie; a daughter, Jessica Holland of Lincolnton; two brothers, Terry Holland and wife, Becky, of Lincolnton and Joel Holland of Denver; a sister, Sylvia Norman and husband, Roger, of Raleigh; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Friday at 7 p.m. at E. F. Drum Chapel, with the Rev. Lutz Keller officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home an hour before the service.
