Joe Howser
BOONE — Mr. Joe H. Howser, 77, of Highland Park Lane, died Sunday morning, Jan. 30, 2005, at Watauga Medical Center.
Born April 25, 1927, in Washington County, Tenn., he was a son of the late Rhea and Flora G’Fellers Howser. Mr. Howser was a graduate of Washington College Academy. He was a retired hardware salesman, having worked for Summers Hardware for 40 years and for Wallace Hardware for eight years. Joe was a longtime member of Boone United Methodist Church where he served as secretary for the Sunday school and was a member of the Methodist Men.
Surviving are his wife, June Broyles Howser; one daughter, Maxine Hester and husband Luther, of Shelby; three sons; Lee Howser and wife Linda of Limestone, Tenn., Steve Howser of Boone, John Howser and wife Leslie, of Boone; one granddaughter, Keely Howser; four grandsons, J.P. Hester, Ben, Blake, and Brooks Howser; three sisters, Ruth Hensley and Ina Jarrett, both of Johnson City, Tenn., and Margaret Kyler of Telford, Tenn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Ben Henry Howser and Hagan Howser.
Services for Mr. Howser will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Boone United Methodist Church with Dr. George Naff and Dr. F. Ron Smith officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Urbana Cemetery in Limestone, Tenn. The family will receive friends in Limestone immediately following the graveside service at the Grace Brethren Church.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home, 194 Queen St., Boone, NC 28607.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Boone United Methodist Church Building Fund, 471 New Market Blvd., Boone, NC 28607.

Jack Phillips
SHELBY — Mr. Jack Phillips, 70, of 2950 Cliffside Rd. died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Hospital.
He was born Jan. 12, 1935.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Genesis Chapel with the Rev. Wade Wallace. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at Webb Cemetery.

Delbert LaForge
FOREST CITY — Mr. Delbert LaForge, age 63 of 652 Byers Road, died Saturday Jan. 29, 2005, at Hospice House of Rutherford County.
He was a native of Mount Clemmens, Mich., and a son of the late Delbert C. LaForge Sr. and Julia Markel LaForge. He retired from the Roseville School System and was involved with the Bethesda Mission.
He is survived by his wife, Jill Albright LaForge of the home: sons, Kevin LaForge, Wayne LaForge, Jeff LaForge, Tom LaForge, Todd LaForge and Kevin Lempenin; daughters, Chris Keranen, Julie Atkins, Tammy LaForge, Kathy Disseppe; brother, Richard LaForge and sisters, Suzie Andrews and Deloris Hurttgam; stepchildren, Tracy Hunnicutt, Dawn Kelly, Sherry Madden and Jerry Daniels.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at The Padgett and King Mortuary. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Padgett and King and on Wednesday an hour before the service. Mr. LaForge will be cremated following the service.

William Nevel
SHELBY — William Allen Nevel, 45, of 433 East Ross Grove Road, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Cleveland Funeral Services.
Margaret Ledford
RUTHERFORDTON — Margaret Jenkins Ledford, 80, of Willow Ridge Nursing Home and formerly of Battery Park Apartments in Asheville, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Willow Ridge Nursing Home.
Born in Rutherford County, she was a member of Cumberland Baptist Church in Asheville. She worked with Asheville Police Department as a school crossing guard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Doctor Zeb Jenkins and Bernice Blanton Jenkins; husband, Dean Ledford; and one brother and three sisters.
She is survived by daughter, Sheila Humphries of Shelby; son Kevin Wayne Humphries of Shelby; and sister, Elizabeth Nanney of Shelby.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Richard Stroup officiating. The family will receive friends after the service Tuesday. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
Ruby Allen
ELLENBORO — Mrs. Ruby Katherine Harrill Allen, 90, of 193 Ellenboro-Henrietta Road, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at home.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Marion Oscar and Bright Rockett Harrill. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband, James Vernon Allen Sr. of the home; three sons, Alvin Allen of Spindale, George Allen of Sandy Mush, and James Allen of Ellenboro; seven daughters, Nancy Frady of Charlotte, Judy Allen of Forest City, Deanna Dills of Sylva, Brenda McEntire of Rutherfordton, Sara Sheppard of Bostic, Hannay Jolley of Bostic and Kathy Houser of Cliffside; two brothers, Nelson Harrill of Greensboro and Hal Harrill of Charlotte; two sisters, Inez Blair of Greensboro and Pat Abrams of Charlotte; 21 grand children and 21 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist church, Ellenboro. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McKinney –Landreth Funeral Home.

Louise Crawley
SPARTANBURG, S.C.— Mrs. Louise Morgan Crawley, 83, of 519 Magness Drive, Spartanburg, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Hospice of Cleveland County, Shelby.
Born Jan. 23, 1922, in Gaffney, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Gresham N. Morgan and Winnie Phillips Morgan. She retired from Ioleda Scales in Spartanburg and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where she was a very active Christian woman. She was a former member of Prospect Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Joe Dean Turner and a stepsister, Fay Clary.
She is survived by her husband Thenlo, “T.B.” Crawley of the home; a son, Jimmie Morgan Crawley and his wife, Imelda of El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Doris Bailey of Kingstree, S.C., Floy Lawson of Cowpens,S.C.; and three grandchildren, Katherine Crawley, Elizabeth Crawley and Allyson Crawley.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home, with the Revs. Bill Adams and Sal Barone officiating.
The family will receive visitors one hour before the service.
Pallbearers will be Rick Rhyne, Ken Crawley, Marion Morris, Moss Hayes, Stanley Scott and Sonny McCraw.

ASHEVILLE — Margaret Jenkins Ledford, 80, of Willow Ridge Nursing Home in Rutherfordton, died on Saturday, January 29, 2005.

Jean Ervin
SHELBY — Mrs. Jean Holland Ervin, 81, of 111 Bradley Road, Shelby, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born March 7, 1923, in Ruther-ford County, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Holland and Lucy Davis Holland. She was a homemaker and a member of Way of the Cross Baptist Church on Broad Street in Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Herbert Ervin, two brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Homer and Judy Lovelace, Billy and Phyllis Lovelace, all of Shelby, and Flay and Joan Gettys of Belmont; a daughter and her husband, Violet and Jimmy Reynolds of Caroleen; a half brother, Paul Holland of Ellenboro, and a half sister Coleen Hamens of Mooresboro; ten grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Homes with the Revs. Billy Bowen, Fred Helms Jr., Frank Lewis and Thomas Whitlock officiating.
Burial will follow at Walls Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Barbara Meeks
GROVER — Mrs. Barbara Jean Meeks, 51, of 122 Whipporwill Court, Grover, died on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral has been rescheduled for Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel. Burial will follow at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Cleveland Funeral Services of Shelby is in charge of the service.
Betty Lincoln
KINGS MOUNTAIN— Mrs. Betty Wilburn Lincoln, 63, of 204 Jim Patterson Road, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Carl Shultz officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 at the funeral home.

Blanche Peeler
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Mrs. Blanche Brackett Peeler, 85, of 8086 Alderman Road, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Morris Hospice Center.
Born March 15, 1919 in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Adam Wayne Brackett and Hattie Boggs Brackett. She was a homemaker and attended St. John’s United Methodist Church while living in Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Peeler; two brothers, Edward Brackett and Joe Brackett; two sisters, Ola Ivester and Lona Penney; and four brothers-in-law, Claude Ivester, Gerald Penney, Lawrence Dellinger and Bill Fahrner.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Tom Hill of Jacksonville; two sisters, Bertha Dellinger of Shelby and Estelle Fahrner of St. Cloud, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Marie Brackett of Belwood and Helen Brackett of Shelby; two grandchildren, Kelly Ferguson and husband, Sam, and Betsy Houston and husband, Jeff; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Cassidy and Clayton.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Kadesh United Methodist Church, with Dr. W. D. Helsabeck Sr. officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Stamey Funeral Home Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
