LAWNDALE — Ms. Floy Louise Hoag, 58, of 103-1 Maple Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Zoar Baptist Church, with the Rev. Carrell Pruette officiating.

Donnis McDaniel
ELLENBORO — Mrs. Donnis Dysart McDaniel, 76, of 132 Zeno McKinney Road, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late William Cliffton Dysart and Rella Putnam Dysart. She was retired from the Haynes Plant and was a member of Drury Dobbins Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. McDaniel; a brother, Carl Dysart; and two sisters, Doris Dysart and Pantha Dysart Burns.
She is survived by two sons, Gary McDaniel and James McDaniel, both of Shelby; two grandsons, Keith McDaniel and Kirk McDaniel, both of Ellenboro; a sister and brother-in-law, Raye and Leonard Davis of Mooresboro; a sister-in-law, Eloise Dysart of Mooresboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel, with the Revs. Andy Oliver and Alvin Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. and at other times at the home.

SHELBY — Mr. Dwight Lamar Barrow, 41, of 702 W. Marion St. died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

RUTHERFORDTON — Mr. Calvin Lavon Woods, 30, of 142 Bunker Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Rutherford Hospital.

Steve McKee
BREVARD — Mr. Steve Allen McKee, 44, of 105 Gallimore Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005.
Born in Portsmouth, Va., he was a son of Horace Eugene and Helen McKinley McKee of Ellenboro. He was a mechanical engineer and had worked with Temkin Manufacturing of Lincolnton and was a former EMT with Cleveland County EMS.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, Nathan McKee Sr. and wife, Christina and Tyler McKee, all of Shelby; a brother, Thomas McKee and wife, Gwan, of Cliffside; three sisters, Ann McCraw and husband, Jimmy, of Shelby, Carol McNeilly and husband, Danny, of Ellenboro and Lynn Bruce of Granite Falls; four grandchildren, Morgan and Nathan McKee Jr. and Jessica and Melody Short; and his fiancée, Lisa Lunsford of Brevard.
A service of remembrance will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church in Ellenboro, with Dr. Jim Richardson and Pastor Joe Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday at the church an hour before the service.

Thomas Howell Jr.
SHELBY — Mr. Thomas Grover “T. G.” Howell Jr., 87, of 1547 Kings Road, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born Aug. 12, 1917, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Thomas Grover Howell Sr. and Bessie Idella Hardin. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was president of Shelby Motor Lines until his retirement. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he previously taught the Andrew Sunday school class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Winfred, Dewey and Marion Howell, and two sisters, Louise Shull and Esther McMurray.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline “Polly” Jones Howell of the home; a son, Thomas G. “Tom” Howell III of Forest City; two daughters, Judy Goforth of Forest City and Cathy York and husband, Skip, of Lawndale; a brother, Robert Howell of Shelby; three sisters, Marie Wortman of Shelby, Betty Jean Brackett of Cherryville and Ellen Guiseppone and husband, Tony, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Jackie Buckner, James D. Morrison and Ann Matheney, all of Rutherford County, Mark Howell of Winston Salem, and Travis and Justin York, both of Shelby; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and special neighbors, Willie and Brenda Goforth.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, with Drs. Tim Sims and J. M. Ezell officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and at other times at the home.

Louise Buff
GROVER — Mrs. Louise Buff, 84, of 416 M. H. Camp Highway, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 4, 1920, in Cherokee County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Ben Nance and Dolly Nance. She was retired from R. T. Industries in Shelby and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her father and stepmother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Buff.
She is survived by a daughter, Gwen Wall and husband, Ray Glenn, of Grover; a sister, Reba Lankford of Shelby; two grandchildren, Nicole Bolin and husband, Chris, of Kings Mountain and Chris Wall and girlfriend, Jamie Coster, of Grover; four great-grandchildren, Devin Bolin and Josh Bolin, both of Kings Mountain and Breanna Wall and Austin Wall, both of Grover.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Patterson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and at other times at the home.
Rebecca Ann Surratt
SHELBY — Mrs. Rebecca Ann Ruff Surratt, 86, of 421 Piedmont Ave., departed this life Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 10, 1918, in Bishopville County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late John and Phyllis Bishop Williams Jr.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Emanuel and Jimmy Duncan; a brother, John Williams Jr.; and a sister, Carrie Bines.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest Surratt of Lawndale; six sons, Willie Duncan of Newton, Leroy and John Duncan of the home, Harrill (Ann) Ruff of Shelby, Ernest Surratt of Knoxville, Tenn., and Charles Surratt of Shelby; two daughters, Rebecca Degree and Phyllis Ruff, both of Shelby; two special children she reared as her own, Joann (Willie) Odoms and Freddie (Janice) Hush, both of Shelby; a sister, Rosa Lee Hopper of Shelby; 36 grandchildren; 85 great-great grandchildren; 9 great-great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Genesis Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Wade Wallace officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home 30 minutes before the service.
James Briscoe
NORFOLK, Va. — Mr. James Paul Briscoe, 94, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2005, at Hospice in Virginia.
He was the son of the late John Wesley and Mattie Camp Briscoe.
He was preceded in death by three sons, James, Michael and Gary Briscoe; three brothers, Charles, Joseph and Marion Briscoe; and two sisters, Odessa Hunt and Virginia Stroud.
He leaves to cherish two daughters, Ruby Moore of Durham and Barbara Ann Briscoe of Virginia; two sons, Charles Briscoe and Carl Francis Briscoe, both of Virginia; two sisters, Gladys Briscoe of Shelby and Lillian Flack of Hickory; one sister-in-law, Bessie Mae Briscoe of Kingstown; and one brother, Milton Briscoe of Shelby.
The funeral is today in Virginia.

Lois Briscoe
LAWNDALE — Mrs. Lois (Lucy) Ann Byrd Briscoe, 53, of 215 Potato House Road, departed this life Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Crawley Memorial Hospital in Boiling Springs.
Born Oct. 25, 1951, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of Odessa Maddox Byrd of Lawndale and the late George Byrd. She worked at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby, where she worked in radiation therapy for 10 years.
She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Lawndale. She helped prepare meals, sang in the choir and was an usher. She was a former member of the Eastern Star. She volunteered at the homeless shelter. Her wish was to ring the bell for the Salvation Army on the holidays.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her dearly missed husband, Frank Briscoe Sr.; a brother, Henry Boyd Sr.; and a sister, Georgia Lee Byrd.
In addition to her mother, she leaves to cherish her loving memories two sons, Frank Briscoe Jr. (Javona) and Nicolas Gerod Briscoe (Leandra), both of Shelby; a daughter, Nicole Jennings (William) of the home; seven grandchildren, Xavier Jennings, Frank Briscoe III, Deidra, Anthony and Lamar Harrison and Kendra and Ashley Kelly; two brothers, Odell Byrd (Angie) and James (Bro.) Byrd (Rose Nell), both of Lawndale; a sister, Phyllis Sims (Charles) of Shelby; his mother-in-law, Geraldine Briscoe of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Bettye Byrd of Shelby; a brother-in-law, Jesse Briscoe (Mary) of Shelby; a dear friend, James (Bro.) Sims of Shelby; two special family friends, Freddie (Chuckie) Williams and Trina Patterson; and a host of family and friends.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Lawndale, with the Rev. Billy Houze officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday at the church 30 minutes before the service.
