Max Hampton
FOREST CITY — Mr. Max Edward Hampton, 59, of 746 Washington St., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at the Rutherford Hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Thompson’s Mortuary Inc.
Ralph Kiser
CHERRYVILLE — Mr. Ralph Benjamin Kiser, 66, of 1248 Black Road, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, in the VA Hospital in Asheville.
A native of Kings Mountain, he was born March 5, 1938, the son of the late Clay and Marie Farris Kiser. He was a retired long line driver from Carolina Freight Carriers after 25 years of service and a veteran of USAF, Vietnam. Ralph was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Cindy Lynn Kiser.
He is survived by a wife, Frances Porter Kiser of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randy Kiser and Jeff and Lisa Kiser all of Cherryville and Alan and Susie Kiser of Lincolnton; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Carolyn Kiser of Kings Mountain; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Larry Pearson of Garden City, S.C., and Essie and Zeb Wood of Bessemer City; five grandchildren, James Justice, Kristi Kiser, Jessica Kiser, Jonathon Kiser and Brittany Kiser; two step-children and four step-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Key officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery with the Last Man’s Club of Gaston County performing full military honors.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.

Kathie Jenkins
SHELBY — Mrs. Kathie Wray Jenkins, age 53, of 3206 Geno Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born Dec. 8, 1951. She was retired from the Department of Social Services in the Work First program and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Jenkins; a father, Marion Bowen Wray and a daughter, Denice Mitchell.
She is survived by a mother, Octavia Burnett Peterson of Shelby; a daughter and her husband, Lacie Jenkins Hoyle and Rodney of Lawndale; a grandson, Landon Hoyle of Lawndale; two brothers, Danny Peterson of Shelby and Kevin Wray of Blacksburg, S.C.; two sisters, Janice Mathis of Kings Mountain, Alecia Wright of Shelby and a sister, Wanda Smith of Shelby; a niece, Candie Lovelace of Ellenboro and nephews, Robert Bridges, Chad Bridges, Josh Smith, Michael Peterson, David Peterson. Very inspirational people in her life were, Candie Smith, Keily Bridges, Alyssa Bridges, Dixie Lovelace and Elijah Smith.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. David Gordon, Billy Boone and Kevin Mathis officiating.
Burial will follow in Charity Baptist Church Cemetery in Fallston.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter Lacie Hoyle, 3915 Harris Creek Road, Lawndale.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Doris Loretta Ware Pruitt, 55, 147 Phifer Circle, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at home.

LAWNDALE — Mr. Dennis “D.P.” Powell, 49, of 8694 Old N.C. 18, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
A native of Caldwell County, he was born Aug. 31, 1955. He was a foreman for the Public Works Department for the Town of Longview. He was a member of Hudson Memorial Baptist Church
He was preceded in death by his father, James McClure Powell Jr. and a sister, Penny Powell.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Robbie Harris Wright and Sammy Wright of Vale; a fianceé, Connie Wright of Lawndale; a son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Jennifer Powell of Drexel; a daughter, April Rhodes of Valdese; a grandson, Dylan Rhodes of Valdese; a brother, Jimmy Powell of Lenoir; a half brother, Jamie Wright of Vale; two sisters, Janice P. Montgomery of Golden Valley and Debbie P. Lail of Taylorsville.
The funeral will be today at 3:45 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Hudson officiating.
Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Hildebran.
The family will receive friends from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Sammy and Robbie Wright, 9228 Willis Road in Vale.

Garland Canipe
LAWNDALE — Mr. Garland Roy Canipe, 64, of 236 St. Paul Church Road, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born July 16, 1940, in Cleveland County, he was the owner and operator of Belwood Truck Sales. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and a member of Casar Masonic Lodge No. 579.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hazel Andrew Canipe and his mother, Dessie Johnson Canipe; and brother, D.H. Canipe.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jeanette Mull Canipe, of the home; son, Jamie Canipe of Lawndale; daughter and spouse, Sibyl Canipe Brotherton and Eugene of Lawndale; daughter and fiancé, Sheila Canipe and Carl Hull of Lawndale; brother and spouse, Russell and Mary Ann Canipe of Lawndale; and three grandchildren; Jessica Brotherton, Matthew Brotherton and Kaitlin Canipe.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with the Revs. Larry Thompson and Cecil Buff officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Grady Hamrick
SHELBY — Mr. Grady Eugene Hamrick, 67, of 1913 Holly Hill Road, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church. He worked for Cone Mills for 20 years.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jonas Mintz Hamrick; a wife, Joyce Victoria Walker Hamrick; two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his mother, Ozie Cooper Hamrick; two daughters, Tammy Hamrick Henson and her husband, Keith of Gaffney, S.C., and Pamela Hamrick Newton of the home; a son and wife, Mitchell Hamrick and Tracy of the home; a brother, Dennis Hamrick of Shelby; two sisters, Geneva Carter of Greenville, S.C., and Brenda Hunt of Ellenboro; two granddaughters and their husbands, Tara and Andy Easler and Ashley and Lorge Loaisiga; two granddaughters, Samantha and Rebecca McEntee; three grandsons, Kristofer Hamrick, Benjamin Hamrick and Timothy Newton; a great-granddaughter, Bethany Easler and a great-grandson, Zakary Loaisiga.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Ed Sessom officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services and other times at the home.
Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
Anis Babb
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Anis Babb, 99, of the Brian Center in Concord, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at her residence.
She was born in Franklin County, Ga., and was the daughter of the late John T. Moseley and Sarah Jane Ivester Moseley. She was retired from the textile industry and was a member of David Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar E. Babb; a son, Walter Edwin Babb and two daughters, Carolyn Ruth Howell and Patricia Elaine Cox.
She is survived by a son, Bill D. Babb and wife Betty of Kannapolis; a daughter, Ramona Amole of Gloucester, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Babb; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jody Griffin officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
Burial will be held at 2 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery Park in Stanley.
