Ray Hull
VALE — Mr. Warren Ray Hill, of 1385 Peeler Road, died Saturday, Dec, 4, 2004, at home.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Mull’s Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Richard Adams, Jeffery Hull and Ken Houston officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Sam Frye
SHELBY — Mr. Sam Frye, 79, of 113 Sante Fe Trail, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Crawley Memorial Hospital in Boiling Springs.
Born in Cherokee County, S.C., he was a son of the late Jesse Lee and Valoree Sarratt Frye. He retired from Cone Mills Cliffside Plant. He was a World War II veteran of the Army and was a member of Cliffside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Crocker Frye; and two sisters, Margie Price of Cliffside and Lois Moore of Ellenboro.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Cliffside Baptist Church, with the Rev. William Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside tonight from 6 to 8.

‘Bob’ Simpson
SHELBY — Mr. Robert “Bob” Preston Simpson, 77, of 2205 Taylor Road, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Carl and Ruth Moore Simpson. He served in the Army during World War II. He retired from Ora Mill and was a member of Davidson Memorial Baptist Church. He loved music and enjoyed collecting antiques.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Mary Jane Shytle.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn McSwain Simpson; two sons, Robert Preston Simpson Jr. and wife, Beverly, of Shelby and Mark Simpson and wife, Susan, of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Wanda Kay Simpson Shytle and husband, David, of Shelby; four brothers, Frank Simpson of Casar, the Rev. Herman Simpson of Cherryville, and Jack Simpson and Steve “Bud” Simpson, both of Shelby; four sisters, Betty Guy of Clinton, Elaine Carpenter of Cherryville, Vonnie Reynolds of Lincolnton and Frances Peeler of Belwood; seven grandchildren, Amy Weathers, John Shytle, Matthew Simpson, Milia Simpson, Nathan Simpson, Nolan Simpson and Nick Simpson; and four great-grandchildren, Garrett Weathers, Kaylin Weathers, Maegan Shytle and Devyn Shytle.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Revs. David Gordan, Brodus Heatherly and Bob Dills officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home tonight from 5 to 7 and at other times at the home.
Annie Anderson
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Ms. Annie Anderson, 57, of 407 Baker St., died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Kings Mountain Hospital.

Albert Sweatmon
SHELBY — Mr. Albert W. Sweatmon, 96, of 1301 W. Dixon Blvd., died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born March 3, 1908, in Houston, Ga., he was a son of the late Charlie C. Sweatmon and Emma Hayes Sweatmon. He retired from Yelton Milling Co. in Spindale, where he was a superintendent and miller for 40 years. He was the oldest member of Westview Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerome Sweatmon.
He is survived by his wife, Ora Willis Sweatmon of the home; a daughter, Elaine S. Hawkins and husband, Grover, of West Melbourne, Fla.; two sisters, Elizabeth Revels of Shelby and Lelia Dickson of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Westview Baptist Church, with Dr. Robert Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery at a later date.
The family will receive friends at the church an hour before the service and at other times at the home of his sister, 618 Charles Road, Shelby.

Gobel Poe Jr.
SHELBY — Mr. Gobel Poe Jr., 72, of 1316-8 Barbee Road, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born on Dec. 16, 1931, in Muncie, Ind., he was a son of the late Gobel Poe Sr. and Carrie Falby Poe. He graduated from Harrison Township School in 1950. He served two years in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from Delco Battery after 30 years. He enjoyed working on cars and watching sports. He was a member of Union Road Church of God in Gastonia.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 50 years, Peggy; one son, James Ray Poe and wife, Kathy, of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Cathy Hicks and Vickie Evans, both of Shelby; six grandchildren, Tommy Workman of Fort Wayne, Ind., Aaron Clark and wife, Julie, of Buford, Ga., John Clark and Michelle Workman, both of Shelby and Adam Poe and Abby Poe of Muncie; and two great-grandsons, Jordan and Gage Workman of Fort Wayne.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Union Road Church of God, with the Rev. Robert Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.
The family will receive friends at Greene Funeral Service West Chapel tonight from 7 to 9 and at other times at the home of Vickie Evans, 1316-9 Barbee Road, Shelby.

FOREST CITY — Mrs. Mazie Humphries Hill, 91, of 254 E. Spruce St., died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at home.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Hicks Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Raymond Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in State Line Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside from 7 to 9.
Charles Parris
FOREST CITY — Mr. Charles Edward Parris, 65, of 731 Morning Star Lake Road, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at McKinney-Landreth Chapel, with the Revs. Bobby West, Troy Harris and Andrew Gowan officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Forest City.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9.
Verlene Roseboro
CHERRYVILLE — Ms. Verlene Roberts Roseboro, 96, of 1937 Cherryville Road, departed this life on Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Washington Baptist Church, with Pastor Denorris Byers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

HOLLIS — Mr. Doyle White, 92, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital.

Vivian Williams
SHELBY — Mrs. Vivian Ware Williams, 93, of 1311 Lithia Springs Road, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at home.
A Cherokee, S.C., native, she graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1929 and attended Cecil’s Business College. She was a homemaker and worked for 22 years in the Esther Mill Sales Room. She was a charter member and the eldest member of Northside Baptist Church.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who tended to all details and always put her family’s needs before her own. Even outside the family, everyone knew her as “Mamaw.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence C. and Annie Warren Ware; her husband of 68 years, Guy Wallace Williams; a grandson, Gene Holmgrem Williams; two brothers, Jesse and Joe Ware; and a sister-in-law, Helen Ware.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. and Irene Williams of Monks Corner, S.C., and Thomas D. and Velda Williams of Charlotte; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jo and Bunny Frye of Atlanta, and Peggy and Bill Ledford of Shelby; a brother, William Ware of Cherokee, S.C.; two sisters, Nell Tomko and Annie Lou Ware, both of Cherokee Springs, S.C.; six grandchildren, Tisha Dedmon and husband, Don, of Shelby; Tonya Williams and husband, Jason, of Belmont, Colyn Williams and wife, Kathleen, of Charleston, S.C., Chris and Amy Frye, both of Atlanta and Mike Williams of Charlotte; eight great-grandchildren, Tripp, Matthew and Clay Dedmon; Brandon, Justin and Karson Rankin, Ashley Frye and Logan Williams; and a very dear friend, Mark McSwain.
Her graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Cleveland Memorial Park with Dr. Stan Webb and the Rev. Neil Efird officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Mae Matheny
FOREST CITY — Mrs. Mae Camp Matheny, 89, of 268 Old Wagy Road, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at Oak Grove Health Care Center.
Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with the Revs. Wayne Ratcliffe and Don Freshour officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the church.
