Shirley Setzer
HICKORY — Mrs. Shirley Sue Sims Setzer, 69, went home to be with her Lord, Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at home.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Max Crump and Evangelist Allan Lane Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home an hour before the service.
‘Bill’ Thomas
FOREST CITY — Mr. William “Bill” Thomas, 61, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at the home of his mother.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ricky Poteat officiating. Burial will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 8:30 and at other times at the home of his sister, 230 Chapman Road, Forest City.
Charles Wylie
WACO — Mr. Charles Roosevelt Wylie, 70, of 323 Devenny Road, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Hospital in Shelby.
Born in Gaston County, he was a son of the late Tilman and Eunice Foster Wylie. He retired from Cleveland Scrap Metal and was a former employee of the City of Cherryville. He attended Gospel Way Baptist Church in Cherryville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Patterson Wylie.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Wilkie and husband, Billy, of Waco; a son, Donald Wylie of Lawndale; three brothers, Junior Wylie of Lincolnton, Hunter Wylie of Gastonia and Grady Wylie of Bessemer City; grandchildren, Jason and Terran Wilkie of Waco, Mitiz Hernandez-Valdez of Statesville, and Shannon Sigmon of Lincolnton; and great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Sigmon and Kayden Hernandez-Valdez.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home in Bessemer City. Burial will follow in Hullender Family Cemetery in Kings Mountain.
The family will receive friends tonight at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30.
Marjorie Hallman
CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Marjorie Ray Hallman, 81, of 1411 E. Main St., died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Willow Ridge Nursing Center in Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
Bernice Whitley
SHELBY — Mrs. Bernice Whitesides Whitley, 90, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Winston-Salem Rehabilitation Center.
Cleveland Funeral Services will announce arrangements.
Lemuel Terry
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Lemuel Monroe Terry, 28, of 240 Jim Patterson Road, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Carolinas Medical Center.
He was born in Palm Springs, Calif., and was employed with Dixie Lawn Co. in Gastonia.
He is survived by his fiancée, Angela E. Singleton of Kings Mountain; his parents, Lemuel Loyd and Ansley Greene Terry of Kings Mountain; a son, Alex Westly Singleton of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Melia Destin Terry and Alexis Cheyenne Terry of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Arthur Kennedy and Ronnie Kennedy of Shelby; two sisters, Kayron Wiseman and Tammy Patterson of Lattimore.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Earl Tanner officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight at Harris Funeral Home from 6 to 8.
John Jarrell
SHELBY — Mr. John Arnold Jarrell, 74, of 115 Albertville Lane, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Patrick County, Va., he was a son of the late Ben Alexander Jarrell and Alma Hancock Jarrell. He was a veteran of the Army and served in the Korean War. He retired from Duke Power, where he was supervisor of operations and maintenance. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Frank Bridges Sunday School Class. He was a charter member of the Exchange Club of Shelby and past president of Duke Power Retirees in the Gastonia District.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Jarrell.
He is survived by his wife, Donnis Crocker Jarrell of the home; a son, Curtis Jarrell and wife, Audrey, of Boiling Springs; a daughter Janice Jarrell Cooke of Rutherfordton; five brothers, Dr. Eric Jarrell, Charles Jarrell and Joe Jarrell, all of Mount Airy, Frank Jarrell of Kernersville and Dallas Jarrell of Roanoke, Va.; two sisters, Claudine Eaton of Crystal River, Fla. and Aleene Ward of Mount Airy; and grandchildren, Ashley Jarrell, Leah Cooke, John Benjamin Jarrell and Natalie Jarrell.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Revs. Dan Wallace and David Rabb officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Cleveland Funeral Services tonight from 6 to 8 and at other times at the home.

Mischa Rhodes
GASTONIA — Mrs. Mischa TaKiyah Rhodes, 30, of 601 Apple St., departed this life on Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at home.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lawndale, with Pastor Billy D. Houze officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will meet at the home of her mother, Ms. Joyce Tyndle, 104 Neal St., Lawndale.

Lilian Whisnant
SHELBY — Mrs. Lilian Delivorias Whisnant, 75, of 2712 West Stagecoach Trail, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Springfield Mass., she was the daughter of a wonderful Greek father, Demetrius Delivorias and a beautiful French mother, Ernestine Francois Delivorias.
She taught elementary school in Missouri, Massachusetts and in Waco and Gastonia.
She was a superb teacher and made a difference in the lives of hundreds of children.
She loved to paint and created beautiful works of art, which will be cherished by friends and family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Buren Whisnant.
Lilian leaves behind a son, Jay Whisnant of Shelby; two daughters, Beth Whisnant Thomerson of Auburn, New Hampshire and Tina Whisnant of Shelby; a sister, Dee Russum and her husband Gary of Richardson, Texas; and a brother, Pierre Delivorias of Springfield; as well as her beloved pets Amie, Fleury Madam, Liam, Noah, Stevie and Tracker.
Her much loved friends include, Pearl and Calvin Cooper and their families, Gerry Murphy, Larry Ware, Jeff and LeeAnn Cable, Dee Philbeck, Pat Webster, Bob and Rachael Elliot, Billie Jenks, Dot Kinmon, Ruth Blanton, and her wonderful “dialysis family”.
It was Lilian’s wish to be cremated and her remains placed with her much-loved poodle, Nique. A gathering of friends will be held Saturday at the home. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942; or to the Cleveland-Rutherford Kidney Association, 1017 N. Washington St., Shelby NC 28150.

Peggy Callahan
MOORESBORO — Mrs. Peggy Joann Scoggins Callahan, 57, of 3825 Dedmond Road, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at her residence.
A native of Ruther-ford County, she was a daughter of Fred Scoggins of Dallas, Texas and the late Jessie Butler Scoggins. She was a homemaker and member of Cliffside Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Dusty Callahan, of the home; two sons, Shannon Arrowood of Forest City and Kelly Arrowood of Blacksburg, SC; one brother, Brent Scoggins of Pawhuska, Okla.; two sisters, Phillis Barnett of Dallas and Sharon Johnson of Rutherfordton; father and mother-in-law, Riley and Ruth Callahan of Mooresboro; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cliffside Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Fleming and Terry White officiating. Burial will follow in Cliffside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 9 tonight at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

Deana Roberts
ASHEVILLE — Ms. Deana Kiser Roberts died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in Asheville.
The funeral was Sunday at Spindale Church of God with the Rev. Bill Alley officiating.

SHELBY — The Rev. Richard Lee McCombs, 50, of 1318 New Hope Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was the son of Annie McCombs Johnson and the late Joe Lewis Vinson and a native of Shelby.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, R.L. “Tater” Hunt; his grandmother, Gertrude McCombs and grandmother, Mary Frances Hunt.
He served in the Army and was the pastor of Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ in Shelby.
He had a passion for singing and was a former member of The Faithful Gospel Singers of Shelby, The Sensational Harminizors of Providence, R.I., and Harold Williamson and the Wondering Souls of Shelby.
He was employed by the City of Shelby.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Alice Virginia McCombs; his mother, Annie McCombs Johnson of Shelby; his father-in-law, William Logan Sr. of Gaffney; his mother-in-law, Mary Frances Logan of Shelby; one son, Chad Thompson of Providence; two stepdaughters, Crystal Logan and Jessica Thomas, both of Shelby; one stepson, James Lamonte Thomas of Shelby; three loving grandchildren, Alenzia, Dominque and Isaiah of Shelby; five brothers, Johnny Hunt (Denise), Todd Hunt (Dee) both of Kings Mountain, Timothy Hunt (Angela) of Forest City, Freddie Williams of Lawndale and Walter Wray of Shelby; six sisters, Mary Lou Hopper (Wilbert), Elizabeth Hunt (Madrick), Gwendolyn Johnson Hunt, Hollis Johnson and Lena Smith, all of Shelby, Alice Williamson of Kings Mountain and many other relatives and friends.
The Funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Harvest Church. Bishop Randy Borders will officiate, Burial will follow at Full Gospel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends a half an hour before the funeral at the church.
