Bud Hamrick
COWPENS, S.C. — Mr. Virgil Paul “Bud” Hamrick Jr., 62, of 349 Battleground Road, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at home.
Born April 7, 1942, in Kings Mountain, he was a son of Ophelia Williams Hamrick of Cowpens and the late Virgil Paul Hamrick Sr. He was the retired former owner of Hamrick’s Used Cars and was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a special friend, Gennie Hamrick of Cowpens; three daughters; two sons; two sisters; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, with the Revs. David Swofford and James Hamrick officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m.
Alice Gill
SHELBY — Mrs. Alice Shade Gill, 56, of 1526 Eaves Road, Apt. Q-6, departed this life Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at the home of her mother.
Born on April 11, 1948, she was a daughter of Evie Humphries Shade of Shelby and the late Dewey Earl Shade Sr. She was employed at Universal Industries in Shelby until becoming disabled. She was a graduate of Douglas High School in Lawndale and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
In addition to her mother, she leaves to cherish fond memories one daughter, Latonjia Mechelle Gill of Shelby; one son, Shane Edward Gill of Gastonia; four sisters, Brenda Shade Dabbs (Mitchell) of Shelby, Rose Ann Phillips of Rutherford, Cathy Shade Green of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Cora Shade Bennett (Randy) of Charlotte; three brothers, William Douglas Shade (Edy) of Blacksburg, S.C., Dewey Earl Shade Jr. of San Jose, Calif., and Robert Earl Shade of Kansas City, Kan.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Polkville, with Brother John Jones as the speaker.

Lisa Whitworth
SHELBY — Mrs. Lisa Ann Rhyne Whitworth, 37, of 6891 Juniper Terrace, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at home.
She was a daughter of Billy Baker and Peggy Jean Early Rhyne of Shelby. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where she sang in the adult choir and rang in the handbell choir.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Timothy Darrell Whitworth; her paternal grandmother, Louise Rhyne of Gastonia; a son, William Wesley Whitworth of Shelby; a daughter, Kristen Marie Whitworth of Shelby; a sister, Deborah Jean Rhyne of Morganton; and a nephew, Brett Baker Rhyne of Morganton.
The funeral will be Sunday at 6 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, with the Revs. Terry Cagle and Steve Austin officiating. The body will be placed in the church an hour before the service. Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday in the church fellowship hall from 5 to 6 p.m. and at other times at the home of Baker and Peggy Rhyne, 6891 Juniper Terrace.

Claude Huskey Sr.
SHELBY — Mr. Claude Huskey Sr., 77 of 431 Oakland Drive, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 13, 1927, in Cherokee County, S.C., he was a son of the late James and Deliah Camp Huskey. He was a World War II veteran of the Army and retired from Fiber Industries. After his retirement, he was employed for a brief time at Winn-Dixie Grocery Store and Shelby High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roosevelt Huskey; a sister, Dorothy H. Hartgrove; a daughter-in-law, Betty H. “Penny” Huskey; a daughter, Janice Kay Huskey; and a wonderful wife of 41 years, Dorothy B. Huskey.
He leaves to mourn three sons and a daughter-in-law, John D. “John John” Huskey of the home, Claude “Little Claude” Huskey Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio, and David G. Roseboro (Dorothy) of Shelby; a daughter, Priscilla H. Eaves of Shelby; two sisters, Florence H. Nichols of Lincolnton and Bernice H. Wilson of Shelby; three aunts, Ettie Mae H. Montgomery of Charlotte, Marie H. Woods of Gaffney, S.C., and Minister Pattie B. Smith of Shelby; his mother-in-law, Jessie B. Degree; a sister-in-law, Dianne Crocker (James), all of Kings Mountain; four brothers-in-law, Howard Degree of Kings Mountain, Tommy Degree (Loretta) of Gastonia and Gus Degree of Atlanta, and Herbert Hickman (Annie) of Seat Pleasant, Md.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a favorite cousin, Eugene Haney (Hatty) of Winston-Salem; and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. M. Lamont Littlejohn officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service.

Broadus ‘Red’ Roberson
CLIFFSIDE — Mr. Broadus Samuel “Red” Roberson, 85, of 107 Clover Leaf Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Druey and Bertha Allison Roberson. He was a retired security guard from Cone Mills Cliffside Plant and a charter member of Fairview United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Horn Roberson; and a son, Roger Roberson.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Wanda Lane; three grandchildren, Tony Roberson and wife, Lisa, Michael Roberson and wife, Amy, and Jill Hall and husband, Paul; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Tony Dorsey, Frank Lewis and Lamar Hewitt officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — Mrs. Maxine Webb, 70, formerly of Forest City, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at home.

Linda Bryant
SHELBY — Mrs. Linda Sue Jordan Bryant, 49, of 305 Cinnabar St., died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born in Pontiac, Mich., she was a daughter of the late James Nathaniel Jordan and Margaret Louise Cook Jordan. She graduated from Highbritten High School in Lenoir and attended Cleveland Community College, Isothermal Community College, Caldwell Technical Institute. She had worked for Kemet, Fast Food Merchandisers of Forest City, Universal Manufacturing in Grover and Kmart in Shelby. She was currently employed at Wal-Mart in Shelby. She was a member of Christopher Road Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Billy Adam Bryant Jr. of Shelby; two sons, Billy Bryant of Shelby and Tim Bryant of Rutherfordton; a daughter, Tiffany Bryant of the home; a brother, Tony Jordan; four sisters, Josephine SinClair, Ellen Wooten, Debbie Miller and Tracy Jordan; and four grandchildren, Andy Dobbins, Bailee Bryant, Wade Bryant and Melia Bryant.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel, with the Rev. Mickey Heyward officiating.

FALLSTON — Mr. William Abel “Pop” Clay, 94, of Fallston Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
Born July 3, 1910, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Caleb Frank Clay and Martha Hoyle Clay. He was a retired construction superintendent. He was a lifetime member of Friendship United Methodist Church, where he served in many church offices over the years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Violla Morgan Clay; his second wife, Emily Falls Clay; five brothers, Charlie, Jim, D. H., Rob and Hugh Clay; and a sister, Kate Watson.
He is survived by a son, Gene Clay and wife, Roberta, of Fallston; three grandsons, Danny Clay and wife, Norma, David Clay and wife, Karen, and Doug Clay and wife, Jada, all of Fallston; seven great-grandchildren, Alex Clay and fiancée, Sara Greene, Dana Clay, Dustin Clay, Bethany Clay, Morgan Clay, Maggie Clay and Molly Clay; and two sisters, Maggie Wease of Shelby and Pauline Harrelson of Fallston.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Terry Bevill officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
