Bill Hardin
FOREST CITY — Mr. Bill Sunday Hardin, 68, of 235 Seitz Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Grays Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Hardin officiating. Burial will follow in Cool Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight at The Padgett and King Mortuary from 6 to 8.
Lester Logan
LAKE LURE — Mr. Lester George Logan, 91, of 522 Winesap Road, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital.

Willie Hosch
SHELBY — Mr. Willie Felton Hosch, 88, of 417 James School Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at home.
Born in Monroe, Ga., he was a son of the late L. C. Hosch and Mary Pierce Hosch.
At an early age, he joined White Oak Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Bostic and was ordained a deacon. A Christian farmer, lover of fishing and visionary family provider, Mr. Hosch relocated to Shelby and joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, member of the Adult Sunday school class and president of the senior choir religiously until declining health. He was also a devoted supporter and member of the Clover Hill Masonic Lodge No. 11 in Lawndale and the NAACP.
He retired from Fiber Industries in Earl after 20 years of service and was a veteran of World War II, receiving the rank of staff sergeant before being honorably discharged. Mr. Hosch attended school at Riverside and Palmer’s Grove Elementary and later attended Cleveland Technical College to obtain his G.E.D.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hosch Mintz; a brother, John Robert Hosch Sr.; and two sisters, Geneva Clayton Hosch Jackson and Elmira Hosch Knox.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pattie Mae Watson Hosch; six sons, Willie F. Hosch Jr. of Lattimore, Cornelius Hosch and Roy Edward Hosch of the home, Larry Dean Hosch (Terri) of Charlotte, Ivy Wayne Hosch (Gayle) of Winston-Salem and Terry Lynn Hosch of Aiken, S.C.; three daughters, Willie Lou Pettis, Yvonnia Hosch Morgan (MacDaniel), Kathryn Ann Harris (Belvie); a devoted and loving daughter-in-law, Dorothy (Cookie) Mae Hosch, all of Shelby; three sisters, Frances H. Grier, Ovella H. Jones (Earl) and Lucille H. Evans, all of Shelby; one brother, Melvin Hosch (Dorothy) of Shelby; one other sister-in-law, Pearlie Byrd of Winston-Salem; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. M. Lamont Littlejohn officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Jennie Barger
SHELBY — Mrs. Jennie Lee Packard Barger, 94, of 1125 Scottsdale Drive, Apt. 10, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late William Lee and Jennie Faires Packard. She was a telephone operator for Southern Bell (BellSouth), retiring after 31 years of service. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Shelby, a member of the Jackie Dills Sunday School Class, the Evelyn Hill Circle, United Daughters of the Confederacy and a former volunteer for the Red Cross.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sallie Lou Shuford.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Lee B. Wenger of Atlanta, Ga., and a nephew, Gene Shuford and wife, Marion, of Rutherfordton.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour before the service.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to First Baptist Church of Shelby, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC 28150.
Johnny Justice
SHELBY — Mr. Johnny Lee McMahann Justice, 49, of 711 Congress St., died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born Dec. 29, 1954, in Lincoln Neb., he was a son of Roger McMahann of Loveland, Colo., and Virginia Ramey of Shelby. He was a construction worker.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Catherine Elaine McMahann of Shelby; three brothers, Michael McMahann and wife, Annette, of Lincolnton, Gene McMahann and wife, Sheryl, of Blacksburg, S.C., and Bobby Justice of Shelby; six sisters, Sandra Ingle of Grover, Judy Justice of Greenville, S.C., Joyce Brown of Boiling Springs, Linda Justice of Indiana, Debra Martin and husband, Jerry, and Kesha Justice and fiancé, Tim Bolin, all of Shelby; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is today at 1 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Hester officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Leon Rivers
PAGELAND, S.C. — Mr. Edwin Leon Rivers, 69, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pageland, he was a son of the late Thomas Luther and Eva Pigg Rivers. He was a truck driver with Driver’s Inc.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Moree Rivers, of Pageland; a son, Timothy Scott Rivers of Harrisburg; a stepson, Boyd Jackson Jordan of Edgemoor, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Cynthia J. Neason of Boiling Springs; two brothers, Harold E. Rivers of Pageland and Thomas A. Rivers of Monroe; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at High Point Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends tonight at Sutton Funeral Home in Pageland from 7 to 8:30.
Richard Clearwater
GAFFNEY, S.C. — Mr. Richard Brian Clearwater, 56, of Old Ford Road, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
The funeral will be held at a later date in Canada.

CHERRYVILLE — Mr. Jeffery “J.R.” Watterson, 57, of 1245 Shelby Highway, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2004, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home, with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6 to 8 and at other times at the home.

SHELBY — Mr. Jackie Lee Williams, 45, of 303 Poston St., departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

RUTHERFORDTON — Ms. Clara Gertrude Freeman, 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at Oak Grove Health Center in Rutherfordton.

Callie Young
SHELBY — Mrs. Callie Bell Waddell Young, 79, departed this life Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Crawley Memorial Hospital in Boiling Springs.
Born July 3, 1925, in Anson County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Waddell and Ila Mae Leak Waddell. She retired from Cleveland Memorial Hospital after 26 years of service. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she served in the choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sylvester Young; her stepmother, the Rev. Ada Waddell; four sisters, Nezzie Lyles, Christine Littlejohn, Georganna Hopper and Netter Jane Edwards; one brother, Bobby Daniel Waddell; and two special grandchildren, Angela and Reginal Logan.
She leaves to cherish fond memories two brothers, James S. Waddell of Shelby and Gene R. Waddell of Charlotte; one special niece, Mae Kate Johnson of Baltimore, Md.; one son, Michael “M.L.” Waddell (Loretta) of Shelby; three daughters, Debra Hopper (Joe), Brenda Atkins (the late James) and Sandra Alexander (Michael) all of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Michael “Dexter” Alexander, Shamonda M. Alexander, Richard “Ricky” Alexander, Tracy Waddell Bostic, Joshua Atkins, Tiara Atkins, Ebony Hopper and Marquette Hopper; nine great-grandchildren, Jermell A. Alexander, Sietta, Treston, Lamondre and Myshela, Derrick and Stefan Logan, Reggie and Shanda Logan; and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Withrow’s Funeral Home in Kings Mountain, with the Rev. R. E. Devoe officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 30 minutes before the service.
Myrtle Hawkins
SHELBY — Mrs. Myrtle Hamrick Hawkins, 63, of 5033 Pecan Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Claude Hamrick and Clara Cooper Hamrick. She was employed by Universal Manufacturing and was a member of New Camp Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Bridges, and her daughter-in-law, Mary Diane Hawkins.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Glenn Hawkins of the home; three sons, Everette Hawkins and wife, Sherry, of Blacksburg, S.C., and Dean Hawkins and wife, Angela and Robert Hawkins and wife, Patricia, all of Shelby; a daughter, Benita Hawkins and husband, Tony of Shelby; a brother, J.Y. Hamrick of Kings Creek, S.C.; six sisters, Flossie Ragan of Kings Creek, Frances Hamrick of Kings Mountain, Rebecca Pearson of Casar, Mittie Page and Agnes Sanders, both of Shelby and Mary Sue Laughter of New House; grandchildren, Robbie Hawkins, Anthony Hawkins, Wesley Hawkins, Crystal Blanton, Randy Trevathan, Joshua Harrison, Christopher Strange, Benjamin Strange, Cassandra Mace, Kayla Hawkins, Joel Hawkins, Joey Hoyle, Krista Hoyle, Ricky Carroll and Shaun Carroll; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel, with Pastor Bobby Callaham officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

William Hamrick
HENRIETTA — Mr. William “Bill” Hamrick, 63, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, with the Revs. Sam Henderson and Neil Murry officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Forest City.

Dewey Quinn Jr.
CHERRYVILLE — Mr. Dewey William Quinn, Jr. 81, of 796 Bowers Road, Thomasville, formerly of Cherryville, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Brithaven of Davidson, Thomasville.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Cherryville with the Revs. James Pyatt and Kelly Jones officiating.
Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the church from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Mary Wright
INMAN, S.C. — Mrs. Mary Louise Benton Wright, 92, of 582 Windridge Circle, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at her home.
Born in Laurinburg, she was the daughter of the late W. P. Benton and Mary Fanny Gaddy Benton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber W. Wright; a son, Allen Benton Wright; and a brother, S.A. Benton.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Nita Benton Lefler of Tabor City; two sons, Wilber Wayne Wright and wife, Martha of Charleston, Paul Harlan Wright and wife, Lyell of Durham; one daughter, Mary Lanita Wilson and husband, Earl Wilson, Jr., of Inman; daughter-in-law, Annette Wright of Cleveland, Ohio; eight grandchildren and nine great-grand-children.
The graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery, Shelby, with the Rev. David Blanton officiating.
The family will receive friends at Palmer Mortuary one hour before the service.
