William Nance

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. William “David” Nance, 35, of 102 Cenco Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Born on Nov. 28, 1968, in Cleveland County, he was a son of Jake Garland Nance Sr. and Nancy Sue Breakfield Carroll. He was employed with Firestone in Kings Mountain for more than four years. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jake Garland Nance Jr.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Tammy Terry Nance of Kings Mountain; his father-in-law, Donald Terry of Gastonia; his mother-in-law, Jonell Terry of Kings Mountain; and two daughters, Kristen Taylor Nance, age 9, and Hailey Brooke Nance, age 3, both of Kings Mountain.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Greene Funeral Service-West Chapel, with the Rev. Tim Setzer officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be sent in care of Tammy Nance, 102 Cenco Drive, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.

Herbert Queen

SHELBY — Mr. Herbert “Herb” Queen, 68, of 2218 S. Post Road, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at home.

Clay-Barnette Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Melvin Jackson Jr.

BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mr. Melvin Jackson Jr., 58, of 135 Canton Drive, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family will receive friends at the home of James and Ruth Richards, 146 Canton Drive, Blacksburg.

White Columns of Blacksburg is in charge of arrangements.

Willie Hosch

SHELBY — Mr. Willie Felton Hosch, Sr., 88, of 417 James School Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at home.

Born in Monroe, Ga., he was a son of the late L. C. Hosch and Mary Pierce Hosch.

At an early age, he joined White Oak Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Bostic and was ordained a deacon. A Christian farmer, lover of fishing and visionary family provider, Mr. Hosch relocated to Shelby and joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, member of the adult Sunday school class and president of the senior choir religiously until declining health. He was also a devoted supporter and member of the Clover Hill Masonic Lodge No. 10 in Lawndale and the NAACP.

He retired from Fiber Industries in Earl after 20 years of service and was a veteran of World War II, receiving the rank of staff sergeant before being honorably discharged. Mr. Hosch attended school at Riverside and Palmer’s Grove Elementary and later attended Cleveland Technical College to obtain his G.E.D.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hosch Mintz; a brother, John Robert Hosch Sr.; and two sisters, Geneva Clayton Hosch Jackson and Elmira Hosch Knox and a son-in-law, L.W. Pettis.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pattie Mae Watson Hosch; six sons, Willie F. Hosch Jr. of Lattimore, Cornelius Hosch and Roy Edward Hosch of the home, Larry Dean Hosch (Terri) of Charlotte, Ivy Wayne Hosch (Gayle) of Winston-Salem and Terry Lynn Hosch of Aiken, S.C.; three daughters, Willie Lou Pettis, Yvonnia Hosch Morgan (MacDaniel), Kathryn Ann Harris (Belvie); a devoted and loving daughter-in-law, Dorothy (Cookie) Mae Hosch, all of Shelby; one other son-in-law, Gene Mintz of Shelby; three sisters, Frances H. Grier, Ovella H. Jones (Earl) and Lucille H. Evans, all of Shelby; one brother, Melvin Hosch (Dorothy) of Shelby; two other sisters-in-law, Pearlie Byrd of Winston-Salem and Catherine Hosch of Shelby; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. M. Lamont Littlejohn officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Monday at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society and/or The American Cancer Society.

Ruby Little

GROVER — Mrs. Ruby Cook Little, 81, resident of 811 Cleveland Ave., died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at her home.

Born in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Cook and Susie Wallace Cook and the widow of William W. “Bill” Little. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and was an active member of the nursery for 32 years and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Gail Grayson and husband William of Liberty,; sons, Richard Little and wife Diana of Gastonia, Frankie Little and wife Susie of Shelby; sister, Dorothy Childers and husband Grady of Greensboro; brother, Pinkney Cook of Grover; brother-in-law Tom Little and wife Stella of Jupiter, Fla.; sister-in-law, Margaret Carruthers of Mount Dora, Fla.; two special people in her life, Kay Little and Rita Queen; seven grandchildren and 11-great-grandchildren.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grover Cemetery in Grover with Dr. Tony Fullbright officiating.

The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8:30 at Harris Funeral Home in Kings Mountain.

Memorials may be made to Grover Lion’s Club Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 34, Grover, NC 28073.

Arrangements are being handled by Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain.

Mamie Long

EARL — Mrs. Mamie Price Long, 71, of 2904 Blacksburg Rd., died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Crawley Memorial in Boiling Springs.

Services are entrusted to Genesis Funeral Service & Chapel.

Sierra Stewart

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Miss Sierra Nicole Stewart, 17, of 144 Fawn Lane, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Born Sept. 30, 1987, in Gaston County, she was a daughter of Richard Ray Stewart and Crystal Renee Eaves Stewart. She was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church of Waco and also a member of the youth club at the church.

Sierra was a senior at Burns High School, where she was editor of the school newspaper, voted senior superlative Most Unforgettable, member of the Beta Club, Quill and Scroll Club, National Honor Society, and Best and Brightest top 10 students in the nation. She attended her teaching intern class at Union Elementary School with the third grade. Sierra also danced at the Academy of Performing Arts. She has danced for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Christopher Shiloh Stewart.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by grandparents, Brenda and Ted Eaves of Bessemer City and Ray and Daisy Stewart of Gastonia; great-great-grandmother, Rose Silvers of Spruce Pine; aunts and uncles, Susan and Ken Fowler of Gastonia, Cathy and Danny Derreberry of Andrews, Sandra and Greg Lunsford of Kings Mountain, Dawn and Alex Ormand of Bessemer City and Teddy Jr. and Wendy Eaves of Belmont.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Blessed Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Fred Helms Jr. officiating. The body will be placed in the church an hour before the service. Burial will follow in Bessemer City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today at Stamey Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to Shiloh and Sierra Stewart Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Blessed Hope Baptist Church, 3357 Fallston-Waco Road, Cherryville, NC 28021.

Jerry Wright

LAKE JAMES — Mr. Jerry Douglas Wright, 47, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 7, 1957, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Douglas Richmond and Lellie Mae Goins Wright. He was a member of Friendly Chapel Baptist Church in Lawndale and attended Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church in Rutherford College. Jerry was employed in tech sales and in his youth was active in scouting, achieving his Eagle Scout Badge Award.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Pons Wright of the home; two sons, Justin Ryan Wright of Lincolnton and Jeremy Lee Wright of Cherryville; his twin brother, Terry Richmond Wright and wife, Linda, and their children, Tara, Anna and Kelsie, of Hickory; a sister, Margie Harmon and husband, Glenn, of Leesburg, Va; and his stepmother, Joyce Hildebran Wright of George Hildebran.

The funeral is today at noon at Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Hamlyn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church an hour before the service.

Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Lowe

FOREST CITY — Mrs. Martha Suttle Lowe, 75, of 270 Willow Run Drive, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital.

The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, with the Revs. C. L. Peterson and Kenneth Byers officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Sunday at the funeral home an hour before the service.

Earl Bragg

DALLAS — Mr. J. Earl Taylor Bragg, 62, of 105 Carol Court, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Born in Gaston County, he was a son of the late Earl L. Bragg and Valerie Taylor Bragg Miskelly. He was a graduate of Ashley High School. He was employed by J. and W. Textile. He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 1303 in Gastonia and Fairview Baptist Church since April 30, 1950.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Hurst.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Hulsey Bragg of the home; stepfather and stepmother, Bob and Shirley Miskelly of Rock Hill, S.C.; three daughters, Crystal Duncan and husband, Scott, of Clover, S.C., Michelle Breedlove and husband, Don, of Bessemer City and Kim Sheperd of Waco; a son, Scott Bragg and wife, Tonya, of Bessemer City; a stepdaughter, Susan Crumbley of Dallas; two stepsons, Kent Currin and wife, Barbara, of Stanley and Robert Sawyer and wife, Darlene, of Shelby; two brothers, Larry Bragg of Gastonia and David Bragg of Belmont; two sisters, Becky Yarborough of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Rose Worley of Cramerton; nine grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren; numerous special friends; and his beloved TinkerBell.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, with the Rev. Andy Broughton officiating. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia from 7 to 9.

Debra Cumberlander

DALLAS — Mrs. Debra Hopper Cumberlander, 36, of 207 Link Circle, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at home. Genesis Funeral Service will announce arrangements.

Christine Moon

PHILADELPHIA — Mrs. Christine Norris Moon, 68, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at home.

Born March 17, 1936, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Grover Norris Sr. and Mary Lou Lumpkins Norris.

She was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church of Philadelphia. Two years ago, she retired from Pride Cleaners, a neighborhood cleaners, where customers knew her for her welcoming smile and congenial personality.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Joseph Moon Jr.; three daughters, Sharon Moon Hale of Virginia, Marie Moon and Carol Moon Trottie (Joseph) of Virginia; a son, Ronald Joseph Moon; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five sisters, Eva Jennings (Bobby), Kay Allen, Geneva Brooks, Isabell Rivers and Birtha Manuel; four brothers, Grover Norris Jr., Ted Norris, John Norris and Woodrow Norris; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Palmer Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday at the church 30 minutes before the service and at other times at the home of her sister, Eva Jennings, 2301 Kingston Road.
