Floyd Tate Sr.
BOSTIC — Mr. Floyd E. “Shorty” Tate Sr., 94, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Haven in the Hills Nursing Home in Bostic.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Alexander United Methodist Church, with the Revs. J.J. Powell and Wayne Toney officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Alexander Mills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Harrelson Funeral Home tonight from 5:30 to 8 and at other times at the home of a son, Floyd Tate Jr., 643 Pinehurst Road, Ellenboro.
George Raines
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. George W. Raines, 91, of 201 Fairdel St., died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Born in Landrum, S.C., he was a son of the late Robert Henry and Celia Pettit Raines. He retired from Dicey Mills in Shelby and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Lillian Morris Raines; five sisters, Mary Sue Tucker, Lula Brock, Julia Morgan, Jenny McClure and Vinney McMackin; and four brothers, Charlie Raines, Luther Raines, Rowland Raines and William D. Raines.
He is survived by two sons, Edward “Butch” Raines and friend, Reba Sisk, of Kings Mountain and Bobby G. Raines and wife, Janice, of Lawndale; two daughters, Martha Myers and husband, Bob, of Kings Mountain and Sue R. Strickland and husband, Carl, of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Debbie Frederick and husband, Marty, of Richmond, Va., Randy Page and wife, Gayle of Gastonia, Donna Keeter and husband, Chris, and Scott Raines, all of Kings Mountain, Eric Myers and wife, Lynn, of Gastonia, and Shane Raines of Charlotte; two step-grandchildren, Sherri Weeks and husband, Paul, and Brian Beatty, all of Lawndale; four great-grandchildren, Laura Page, Kala Buchanan, Lindsay Frederick and Grayson Myers; two step-great-grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Weeks; and special friends, Donna and Brenda Mace and Joe and Judy Tesseneer.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, with Dr. John Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Harris Funeral Home.

Mildred Doty
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. — Mrs. Mildred Cooke Doty, 83, formerly of Shelby, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, in Florida.

Robert Allen
FOREST CITY — Mr. Robert Lee Allen, 58, of 108 Pine St., died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital.
He was the son of Bobby and Geneva Allen of Lake Lure. He attended Carver High School in Spindale. He served in the Army and served two tours in Vietnam. He was a retired truck driver.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, Robert Lee Allen Jr. of Raleigh and David Allen of Marion; a sister, Barbara Shade (Perry Jr.) of Shelby; and a brother, Richard Allen of Arden.
The funeral is today at 1 p.m. at Temple of Jesus Church in Lake Lure, with the Rev. Lloyd Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church an hour before the service.

Junior Duckworth
FOREST CITY — Mr. Junior Duckworth, 75, of 185 Crowe Dairy Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Long Branch Road Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jerry Ruppe and Carl Street officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

James Holmes
KINGS MOUNTAIN — The Rev. James Donald Holmes, 64, of 1818 Bethlehem Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at home.
Born in Greenville, S.C., he was a son of Florence Ward Holmes of Shelby and the late C. C. Holmes. He was a retired pastor from Shelby First Assembly and was employed with D & B Transport in Kings Mountain. He was a minister for 30 years and was a member of Shelby First Assembly. He served in the Army for seven years.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Nancy Bolin Holmes of Kings Mountain; a son, James Timothy Holmes and wife, Margaret Ruth Holmes, of Kings Mountain; four brothers, Fred Holmes, of Chester, S.C., Lewis Holmes of Clayton, Ala., Jack Holmes of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Gene Holmes of Cherryville; a sister, Betty Beeco of Newberry, S.C.; and two grandchildren, James Timothy Holmes Jr. and Matthew Travis Holmes of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, with the Revs. David Logan, David Carroll and Carl Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Harris Funeral Home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. before the service.

Ruthie Wilson
SHELBY — Mrs. Ruthie Mae Mintz Wilson, 76, of Ramblewood Drive, Apt. 51, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Edward and Judy Connley Mintz. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She was formerly employed for Dr. Henshaw as a housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie “Big Boy” Wilson; two sons, Baby Boy Wilson and Billy Wilson; one stepdaughter, Sarah Lou Toms; three sisters, Johnnie Mae Mintz, Emma Strong and Minnie Brooks; and five brothers, Arthur Mintz, Edward Mintz, Charley Mintz, Luther Mintz and William Mintz.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Johnny Jr. and Mary Ann Wilson of Shelby and James Wilson of the home; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Gloria L. and Robert Crank Jr. of Kings Mountain, Dorothy and Kenneth Jimson, Sharon Wilson, Michael Raymond and Shirley Webber, all of Shelby; a child she raised, Donisha Ross; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a godchild, Marlyn Meeks; two special friends, Chris and Kim Hopper; a very close friend, Juanita Cocker; a special granddaughter, Tracy Willis; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Gethsemane Holiness Church in Kings Mountain, with Pastor Donald Mintz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church an hour before the funeral.

ELLIJAY, GA. — Mrs. Mary H. West, 88, of Penland Street, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004.
A graveside service is today at 2 p.m. at Lee’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Polkville.

Alda Wellmon
SHELBY — Mrs. Alda Elizabeth Self Wellmon, 97, of 1460 Costner Road, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born on Sept. 26, 1907, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late George Self and Georgia Beam Self. She was a homemaker and a member of a non-denominational church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Agustus Wellmon.
She is survived by two daughters, Marie W. Martin and husband, Junior, and Julie Mae W. Ayers, all of Shelby; two sisters, Lula Clark of Cherryville and Ruth Sparks of Maiden; grandchildren, Bobby and Vicki Martin, Ricky and Candy Ayers and Janet and Eric Beam, all of Shelby; great-grandchildren, Jeff and Sonja Martin, Chad Martin, Sarah Martin, Gus Beam, April Ayers and Jason Ayers; and great-great-grandchildren, Mikayla Brady, Mackenzie Brady and Hunter Martin.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home, with Mr. Leslie Pully and Mr. Slade Blend officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home an hour before the service.

EARL — Mrs. Mamie Price Long, 71, of 2904 Blacksburg Road, departed this life Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Crawley Memorial Hospital in Boiling Springs.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastor Lamont Littlejohn officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service.

Lura Ervin
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Lura Black Ervin, 91, of 413 Alan Drive, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at home.
Born on Dec. 1, 1912, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late John Black and Fannie Odum Black. She was a homemaker and retired from the textile industry. She was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Ervin; and four brothers, Russell Black, Jim Black, Paul Black and Johnny Black.
She is survived by three sons, Edward Ervin Jr. of Shelby, Harold Ervin and wife, Shelia, of Kings Mountain, and Michael Ervin and wife, Dottie, of Cherryville; a daughter, Barbara Hardin and husband, Allen, of Shelby; three sisters, Eva Black, Dorothy Ervin and Kathleen McSwain and husband, Lawrence, all of Shelby; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jimmy Black officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and at other times at the home.

Dorsey Sr.
POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. — Mr. Robert Vernon Dorsey Sr., 87, formerly of Boiling Springs, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at home.
He owned and operated Dorsey Hardware Store in Texas and was also a member of Boiling Springs United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn McCracken Dorsey of Powder Springs; a daughter, Elizabeth Dorsey Ryan of Las Vegas, Nev.; a son, Robert Vernon Dorsey Jr. of Texas; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service is tonight at 7 at Boiling Springs United Methodist Church.
