Ray Reid Jr.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Mr. Ray Thomas “Flack” Reid Jr., 57, of 3202 Notre Dame St., died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Ray Thomas and Mary Reid Flack of Shelby. He was a Navy veteran and served in the Vietname War. He retired from Rose Printing Company.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Lee Flack.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Deborah Morrell Reid of Tallahassee; two daughters, Jodie Rae Flack and Zekera Reid, both of Tallahassee; six brothers, James Flack (Helen) of Kingstown, Robert Flack (Twila) of Kings Mountain, Charles Flack of Ellenboro, Alvin Flack (Martha) of Shelby, Calvin Flack (Deborah) of Lattimore and Leonard Flack (Jamette) of Shelby; five sisters, Cora Camp of Shelby, Ernestine McCluney (John) of Shelby, Kathy Brown (Larry) of Lawndale, Minnie Lawrence (Eugene) of Shelby, and Ruthie Wimbush of Shelby; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James L. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service and at other times at the home of his brother, James, at 1804 Quail Run Drive, Kingstown.

Blacksburg, S.C. — Mrs. Minnie Tuft Brown, 70, of 160 Broad River Road Blacksburg, departed this life on Saturday Oct. 2, 2004, at Carolinas Medical Center Charlotte.

‘B.D.’ Morrow
SHELBY — Mr. Beauford D. “B. D.” Morrow, 75, of 1205 Wyanoke Ave., died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born on Jan. 5, 1929, in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Seth Morrow and Lolie Rollins Morrow. He retired from Fiber Industries. He was a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church and River Bend Golf Club, where he was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jane Tessneer Morrow of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Susan Morrow of Greensboro and Gary and Derallin Morrow of Piedmont, S.C.; a daughter, Robin Roberts of Fairplay, S.C.; a brother, Ray Morrow of San Diego.; a sister, Alda Womack of Cliffside; two sisters-in-law, Gilda Brank of Asheville and Minnie Morrow of Margate, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Tessneer and wife, Edna, and Gary Tessneer and wife, Pat, all of Shelby; four grandsons, Josh, Seth, Chad and Jacob; three granddaughters, Krystal, Kimberly and Amy; a stepgranddaughter, Melissa; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Rachel; and a number of special nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Patterson Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Waters officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home from 6 to 8 and at other times at the home.

Virginia Greene
GOLDSBORO — Mrs. Virginia White Greene, 69, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Born in Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Naomi Warren White. She worked at PPG Industries in the Fiberglass Division as a Lab Technician in Quality Control. She was a member of Rehobeth Methodist Church in Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John J. White and James Donald White.
She is survived by one sister, Caroline Pate of Goldsboro; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family. She also had many special friends in the Shelby/Polkville area.
The funeral is today at 3 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at Wayne Memorial Park and at other times at the home of Carolina Pate, 308 Mimosa Park Drive, Goldsboro.

Goulia Dedmond
CLIFFSIDE — Mrs. Goulia Irene Price Dedmond, 88, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born in Cherokee County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Tillman Price Sr. and Myrtle McDaniel Price. She retired from Cone Mills Cliffside and was a member of Cliffside Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Dedmond.
She is survived by two sons, Randy Dedmond of Cliffside and Marc Dedmond of Ellenboro; a daughter, Andre Dill of Bostic; a brother, Woodrow Price of Gaffney, S.C.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cliffside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in Cliffside Cemetery.

WALLS, Miss. — Mr. Bobbie Gene Hull, 74, formerly of Memphis, Tenn., died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven, Miss.
The funeral will be Sunday at noon at Highway Holiness Church in Nesbit, Miss. Burial will be Monday at 9 a.m. in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis.

LAWNDALE — Mrs. Betty Pearson O’Brien, 68, of 174 Palmer Road, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born on June 20, 1936, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of Forest Pearson and Tula Mae P. Pearson. She retired from Jefferson Smurfit. She was a member of Hudson Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lee Church; and a son, Dennis Pearson Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jim O’Brien of the home; three sons, Bill Pearson Church and wife, Susan, and Scott Church and wife, Dana, all of Lawndale and Ronnie Pearson Church and wife, Sissy, of Shelby; a stepson, Mike O’Brien and wife, Rita, of Lawndale; two stepdaughters, Kathy Flowers of Bessemer City and Lisa Millwood of Kings Mountain; a former daughter-in-law, Jill Webb and husband, Curt, of Boiling Springs; four grandchildren, Shannon Pearson and wife, Dana, Stewart Pearson and wife, Lauren, Thomas Lee Pearson and Logan Church; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor Pearson, Tyler Pearson and Gracie Pearson.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Hudson officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.

SHELBY — Mrs. Ruth Naomi Elmore Marable, 80, of 805 Jefferson St., died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

J.V. Martin Jr.
SHELBY — Mr. John Vernon “J.V.” Martin, Jr., 85, of 1351 Lithia Springs Road, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born on July 12, 1919, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late John Vernon Martin Sr. and Minnie Turner Martin. He served in the Navy during World War II in the North Atlantic. He retired from Baxter Corp. and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was our beloved father, brother, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Queen Martin; a son, Vernon Clayton Martin; and a sister, Vernola Martin Henson.
Left here to celebrate his life are a daughter, Judy Wray and husband, Frank, of Shelby; two sons, Bobby Martin and wife, Nancy, of Denver, N.C., and Mr. and Mrs. Billy Martin of Vale; a daughter-in-law, Velvia Martin of Shelby; a brother-in-law, J.H. Queen and wife, Jerri, of Tennessee; two sisters, Estelle Van Horn of Boiling Springs and Helen Conner of Shelby; three sisters-in-law, Irene Queen and Francis Church, both of Shelby, and Pearl Martin of Grover; 11 loving and caring grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many other caring relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. David Rabb, Billy Boone and Dan Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park, with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 4 to 5:30 and at other times at the home.

BOSTIC — Mrs. Mildred Melvina Wellman, 88, of Cherry Mountain Road, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at home.
A memorial service is today at 3 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ruth, with Pastor Arthur Gibbs officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
