Willie Smith Sr.
LAWNDALE — Mr. Willie Mickey Smith Sr., 53, of 110 Carriage Court, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County on Feb. 17, 1951, he was formerly employed as a fixer with Doran Textiles and a member of Ledford Grove Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie B. Smith and Ruby Elaine Ledford Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lemons Smith; two sons, Willie Mickey Smith Jr. of Lawndale, William Thomas Smith and wife Angie of Cherryville; a brother, David Kevin Smith of Shelby; two sisters, Candy Powell and Dawn Caldwell, both of Mooresboro; and the joy of his life, his grandson T.J. Smith of Cherryville.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ledford Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Price officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Mildred Jones
MOORESBORO — Mrs. Mildred McCraw Jones, 84, of 2648 Camps Creek Church Road died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at her residence. A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Ida McCraw and Charlie Arthur Beaver. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rueral (Bill) Jones and half-brother Gene Beaver. She was a homemaker and member of Camps Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Jimmy and wife Vicki Jones of Mooresboro, Dr. Randy and his wife Beth Jones of Kinston; two daughters Becky Bedford of Gaffney, Debbie Evans and husband Kelon; four grandchildren, Jamie Jones, Garrett Jones, Colleen Jones and Robert Evans.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Camps Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Durham and Rev. Paul Sorrells officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

MOORESBORO — Mrs. Donnis Davis Curtis, 75, of 3468 Curtis Road, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was a homemaker, a member of Drury Dobbins Baptist Church and a loving mother and grandmother who was selfless and giving, always putting the needs of her family before her own.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Lee and Getty Pritchard Davis; her husband, Dewey Junior Curtis; a brother, Willard Davis; and a sister, Betty Lou McDaniel.
She is survived by a son, Bob S. Curtis and wife Melissa of Mooresboro; three daughters, Claudia Newton and husband Sonny of Little Rock, Ark., Anne Frazier and husband Johnny of Henrietta, and Sherry Goforth and husband Warren of Shelby; six brothers, Max Davis and wife Betty of Lake Wylie, Pitt Davis and wife Frieda of Lincolnton, Buren Davis and wife Anita of Spartanburg, S.C., Mike Davis of Ellenboro, Jerry Davis and wife Flo and Tom Davis and wife Sharon, all of Mooresboro; three sisters, Caroyln Wellmon and husband Doc of Forest City, Kay Wright and husband Burl of Kentucky and Norma Kelly and husband Kenneth of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; Shannon and Matt Curtis; Angela Wyle, Dana Gettys, Melissa Lavender, Jenny Howell, Brandy Skipper and Chuck Goforth; eight great-grandchildren; Stephanie Gettys, Kristin and Katie Fitzgerald, Cody Lavender, Bryson Howell, Shae Skipper, Tyler Coggins and Courtney Goforth.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Drury Dobbins Baptist Church with the Rev. Philip Dunlap officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

James Clontz
SHELBY — Mr. James Lee Clontz, 64, of 1850-1 Kemp Circle, died Sunday, Oct. 03, 2004, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a veteran of the Army and served in the Korean conflict. He was a sawmill logger and was of the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry and Belle Martin Clontz and two brothers, Roy and Glenn Clontz.
He is survived by a brother, Bill Clontz of Edneyville; two sisters, Louise Gatlin of California and Betty Johnson and husband Wally of Shelby; and a very dear and special friend, Mozelle Terry.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Bumgarner officiating. A burial will follow at Mount Zion Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive visitors today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and other times at the home. CHERRYVILLE — Annie Eva Sparks Darty, 92, of Carolina Care Center, formerly of Academy Street, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at her residence.
Services will be held Tuesday at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with the Revs. Mark Poe and Tom Harris officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on tonight from 6 to 8 and at other times at the home of Lester and Patsy Darty, Main Street in Waco.
Sara Costner
SHELBY — Mrs. Sara Ann Bass Costner, 66, of 1211 Meadowood Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at home, with her family by her side after an extended struggle with cancer.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born May 10, 1938, a daughter of the late Howard Lee Bass Sr. and Mrs. Annie Laura Hoyle Bass of Vale.
Mrs. Costner worked for many years at Alston Bridges BBQ and then as a substitute teacher for Cleveland County Schools until her retirement. She also worked for the Cleveland County Fair as the director of the flower department for over 30 years. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, George Clemmie Bass.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 50 years, James “Sammy” Costner of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Pilar Costner of Kings Mountain; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Chuck Montgomery of Grover and Debbie and Scott Chapman of Lawndale; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard “Buddy” and Linda Bass Jr. of Blacksburg, S.C.; two granddaughters and their husbands, Jessica and Dave Willey of Charlotte and Angela and Jeff Bradley of Kings Mountain; a grandson, Braydan Chapman of Lawndale; a granddaughter, Jill Montgomery of Grover; a grandson, Andy Montgomery and Sharon Wilkie of Grover; and a great-granddaughter, Makayla Bradley of Kings Mountain.
Her funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Revs. Rick Hamrick and Ed Sessom officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. — Mrs. Teresa Parris Morehead, 50, of 3 Pergola Place, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Standing Springs Baptist Church, Simpsonville, with the Revs. Glenn Bryant and Michael Beeks officiating.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church before the service.
A second service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at State Line Baptist Church, Gaffney, with the Revs. Charlie Blackwell, Eddie Bolin and Hal Parris officiating.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the church.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Ruth Marable
SHELBY — Mrs. Ruth Naomi Elmore Marable, 80, of 805 Jefferson St., died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 3, 1924, to the late Lether Elmore in Cleveland County. She was married to the late Hubert Marable.
She joined Hoppers Chapel Baptist Church at an early age and served as First Vice President of the Senior Mission and was a devoted member of the Senior Choir and Usher Board.
She leaves to cherish fond, loving memories three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Mary Marable, Leonard and Brenda Marable, all of Shelby and Joseph and Margaret Marable of Lawton, Okla.; one daughter, Sylvia Marable of Shelby; one sister, Ada Marable of Washington, D.C.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Her funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hoppers Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.
