CLINTON — Mrs. Gladys Laylon Warren Lindsay, 88, of White Oak Manor in Shelby, formerly of Clinton, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove Park Baptist Church, with the Rev. Michael Shook officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall one hour before the service.

Royal-Hall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Luther Grigg Jr.

SHELBY — Mr. Luther Guy Grigg Jr., 82, of Grigg Road, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Luther Guy and Dorcas Blanton Grigg Sr. He was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church, where he had formerly served as secretary and treasurer. He was also a former member of the board of directors of Polkville Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Grigg and Ada Elliott.

He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and W.C. Edwards of Ellenboro; a brother-in-law, Charlie W. Elliott Sr. of Lawndale; a nephew and his wife, Charlie W. Jr. and Diane Elliott of Greensboro; a niece and her husband, Jane and Harvey Kotsionis of Winston-Salem; great-nieces, Carey, Cami and Courtney Kotsionis and Caroline Elliott; and a great-nephew, Clayton Elliott.

The funeral is today at 2:30 p.m. at Rehobeth United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kelly Ottinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall an hour before the service.

Memorials may be made to Rehobeth United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2036 Rehobeth Church Road, Shelby, NC 28150, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Lutz-Austell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Kaylor

MORGANTON — Mr. Earl (Sugg) Kaylor, 83, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Valdese General Hospital.

Born April 16, 1921, in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Albert Washington and Beulah Bean Kaylor.

He was a retired carpenter and served in World War II in the Navy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Skidmore Kaylor; a daughter, Rhonda Kaylor Buchanan of Valdese; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Kathryn Kaylor of Shelby; grandchildren, Scott Buchanan, Kevin Buchanan, Rebekah Shealy, Robert Kaylor, James Kaylor, Brooks Tester and Shay Tester; and a great-grandson, Jordan Tester.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Hickory. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour before the service.

‘Nig’ Clayton

CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Lorene “Nig” Elizabeth Elliott Clayton, 75, of 1006 Ranbar St., died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at City Memorial Cemetery, with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 6 to 7:30 and at other times at the home.

Willie McCleary

SHELBY — Mrs. Willie Mae McCleary, 102, of 401 Morgan St., died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Hospice of Wendover.

The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Adam’s Chapel AME Zion Church, with Dr. Purella Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church an hour before the service.

J.W. Gill & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lucy Hodge

RUTHERFORDTON — Mrs. Lucy Hudgins Hodge, 73, of 631 Miller Road, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Autumn Care Nursing Home.

A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pearidge Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight at Cleveland Funeral Services from 6:30 to 8.

Louise Greene

FOREST CITY — Mrs. Louise Greenway Greene, 78, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital.

The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glenn Greenway officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home before the service from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

‘Ronnie’ Patterson

SHELBY — Mr. Ronald “Ronnie” Dean Patterson, 56, of 1207 North Gate Drive, died Monday, July 26, 2004.

The funeral is today at 11 a.m. at Shelby New Bethel Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Clay-Barnette Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ina Towery

LAWNDALE — Mrs. Ina Grigg Towery, 75, of 102 Falls Road, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 24, 1928, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Nesbitt “Neb” and Sedelle Lee Grigg. She retired after 22 years of service as a Cleveland County Veterans Service Officer. She was a member of Lawndale United Methodist Church, where she was a former choir member. She was a former president of Lawndale Woman’s Club and a participant of the Upper Cleveland Theater Group and Greater Shelby Community Theater. Her hobbies were her family and crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Louie “Buck” Grigg, and a sister, Barbara “Bloss” Grigg Beam.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Hugh F. Towery of the home; two daughters, Angela Towery Blanton and husband, Ronnie, and Tina Towery Nejberger and husband, Serge, all of Lawndale; a brother, Sam Owen Grigg of Lawndale; a sister, Joy Grigg Hakan of Chapel Hill; two grandsons, Rodney Blanton and wife, Melody, and Lee Nejberger, all of Lawndale; and two great-grandchildren, Megan and Miranda Blanton of Lawndale.

The funeral is today at 3 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Marti Haliburton and David Reep officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home before the service from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.

Viola Graham

BESSEMER CITY — Mrs. Viola T. Graham, 82, of 115 Bridges Road, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Century Care Nursing Home in Cherryville.

Born on July 7, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Patterson Thompson and Eliza Johnson Thompson.

She attended Zion Hill Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Jordanaires Choir and usher board until her health failed.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late James Graham Jr., known as T. Graham. “Redbird” or “Bowdee” as she was known to many, was a kind and loving person to everyone. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her fond memories are a son, Quay Coleman (Ruby) of Bessemer City; one adopted daughter, Diane Graham; two sisters, Elizabeth Hutcheson of Washington, D.C., and Ethel Mae Barrett of Wilmington, Del.; five sisters-in-law, Delzo Thompson of New York, Dorothy Mae Starr of Passaic, N.J., Rosie Mae Graham of Gastonia, Viola Rollins of Cherryville and Plumie Straight of Thomasville; two brothers-in-law, Ernest Graham of Dayton, Ohio, and Joe Lewis Graham of Patterson, N.J.; five grandchildren, Stanley Coleman, Marty Coleman, Evelyn Parrish, Henry Oneil and Amelia Oates; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Cherryville, with the Rev. Roger Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Withrow’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

NEW HOUSE — Mr. L. G. Grigg Jr., of 3511 Grigg Road, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Nell Ivie

SHELBY — Mrs. Nell Elizabeth Ivie, 78, of 1753 S. Lafayette St., died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at home.

Born Dec. 3, 1925, in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Forrest Hubert and Bessie Elizabeth Bridges Jones. She was a retired beautician. She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church since 1948 and was a member of the Lost Chord Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Geneva Spivey, Irene Ziegenfuss and Joyce Williams; and a granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Rufus N. Ivie Jr. of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, R.N. “Butch” III and Suzanne B. Ivie and Ron and Barbara Ivie, all of Shelby, and Les and Sheila Ivie of Polkville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda I. and Robert Johnson of Boiling Springs and Betsy and Charles Tice of Winston-Salem; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Forrest W. and Edith Jones of Newport News, Va. and Robert and Lee Jones of Norfolk, Va.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Polly and T.G. Howell of Shelby and Betty and the Rev. George Brice of Fayetteville; a sister, Jinnie Foster of Winnsboro, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Marvin Gobble officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6 to 8 and at other times at the home.

Viola McEntyre

SHELBY — Mrs. Viola Pruitt McEntyre, 86, of White Oak Manor, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004.

The funeral is today at 11 a.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Carper officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour before the service.
