Ruth Rollins
SHELBY — Mrs. Ruth Pearson Rollins, 79, of 708 Skinner Road, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Center.
Born in Union, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Maude Sprouse Pearson. She worked at Cleveland Regional Medical Center and retired from Gastonia Memorial as a nursing assistant. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Rollins Jr., and two brothers, Louis and Harold Pearson.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Patti Rollins of Clover, S.C.; a daughter, Jane Edwards of Shelby; five grandchildren, Karma Edwards and John Edwards of Shelby, Karen Rollins of Hickory, Brian and wife, Misty Rollins, of Gastonia and Len Norris of Concord; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Rollins of Hickory, Emerald Rollins of Gastonia and Landon Norris of Concord; a former son-in-law, Larry Edwards of Shelby; and a former daughter-in-law, Carolyn Rollins of Gastonia.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jeff Brendle and Mike McGee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends tonight at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 and at other times at the home of Jane Edwards, 708 Skinner Road.

Noah Dixon
FALLSTON — Noah Spencer Dixon, infant son of Charles “Pete” Dixon Jr. and Lisa Bumgarner Dixon, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
In addition to his parents, he was survived by two brothers, Joshua Nanney and Nathaniel Dixon of Fallston; and grandparents, Charles and Dorothy Dixon Sr. of Fallston, Tommy Bumgarner of Lenior and Frankie Cox of Hickory.
The funeral will be private.

Brenda Ure
BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mrs. Brenda Bell Ure, 47, of East Clairborne, Apartment 6-A, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A celebration of life service will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, followed by a graveside service in the church cemetery. The Revs. Lucky Earls and Gregg Martin will officiate.

Russell Taylor
RUTHERFORDTON — Mr. Russell Linville Taylor, 78, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral is today at 11 a.m. at Crowe’s Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Ben Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Rutherfordton City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Alease Pyant
ORLANDO, Fla. — Mrs. Alease Sowell Pyant, 83, of 3361 South Kirkland Road, formerly of East Pine Street, Lincolnton, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Central Health Hospital in Orlando, Fla.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Second Baptist Church in Lincolnton, with burial to follow in Forest lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church and at others time at the home of her sister, Bessie B. Gidney, 1014 East Pine St., Lincolnton.

Thelma Green
SHELBY — Mrs. Thelma Elaine Lemons Green, 72, of 1829 Ridings Road, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at home.
Born on Nov. 30, 1931, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Radford W. and Nancy Roberts Lemons. She retired from Doran Mill and was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, R.L. Lemons, William M. Lemons and World War II Cpl. Earl W. Lemons.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd A. Green of the home; a son, Ricky Dean Green of Shelby; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Charles and Betty Lemons, and Carl Ray and Margaret Lemons, all of Shelby; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Audrey Evans of Shelby, Ethel J. and the Rev. Harold Warren, of Patterson Springs and Margaret and the Rev. Harold Spake, of Summerville, S.C.; grandsons, Zachary Tyler Green, Nicky Green and Terry Dills; and granddaughters, Heather Green, Deana Green and Chelsey Philbeck.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Harold Spake and Steve Waters officiating. Burial will follow in Patterson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight at the funeral home from 6 to 8 and at other times at the home.

ELLENBORO — Mr. Charles Kenneth “Kenny” Toms, 41, of 304 Oak Grove Church Road, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Saint Lukes Hospital, Jacksonville, Fla.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Florence Baptist Church, with Dr. Bobby Gantt and the Rev. Wesley Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

Violet Peters
CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Violet Cheryl Spake Peters, 59, of 113 North Shores Drive, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at home.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of Violet Hardin Spake of Shelby and the late Woodrow Pershing Spake. She was a cashier at Harris Teeter for 10 years. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was a member of the church choir.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Nelson Spake and a sister, Frieda Jo Taylor.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Wilhelmus “Bill” Peters of the home; a brother, Steven Spake and wife, Renee, of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Audrey Renee Borsberry and Becca Antoinette Hood and husband, Scott, all of Kings Mountain; granddaughters, Melanie Renee Borsberry and Elizabeth, Sarah and Victoria Hood; and a grandson, Joshua Jurewicz.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, with Dr. Tim Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Ross Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends a half an hour before the service at the church.

Elijah Floyd
SHELBY — Elijah Alexander Floyd, infant son of Jason Allen Floyd and Lynne Rachels Floyd, of 1015 Allison Drive, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Carolinas Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, William Howard Bridges and Wilson and Kathleen Biggerstaff and great-grandfathers Bill Clark and Cecil Rachels.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a baby brother, Ethan William Floyd of the home; grandparents, Gary and Sue Floyd and Milton and Rhonda Rachels, all of Shelby; aunts and uncles, Jay and Kristi Rachels, Julie and Scott Crotts and Kristen Rachels, all of Shelby; a great-grandmother, Betty Bridges of Shelby; and great-grandparents, Jack and Kate Floyd and Bill and Mildred Rachels Nettles, all of Shelby.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park, with the Rev. David Duncan officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home from 1 to 2 p.m. and at other times at the home of both sets of grandparents.

Martha Terry
MOORESBORO — Mrs. Mary Martha Willis Terry, 80, of 183 Pebble Drive, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Lumard and Nettie Mae Davidson Willis. She was a homemaker and a member of Plainview Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Terry; a son, Ronald Terry; brothers, Grady Willis, Monroe Willis and Gene Willis; and one sister, Lourine Mathis.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Terry of Forest City and J. M. Terry of Shelby; two daughters, Sybil Terry Greene of Boiling Springs and Phyllis Blanton of Mooresboro; 10 grandchildren, Renee Terry, Crystal Terry, Brentt Terry, Brandon Terry, Tina Greene McCraw, Tracy Greene, April Blanton Webb, Todd Blanton, Michelle Terry Arrowood and Rhonda Terry-Strange; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Plainview Baptist Church, with Dr. Robert Toney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Sarah Goforth
SHELBY — Mrs. Sarah Ann Wilson Goforth, 80, of 1152 Buffalo St., died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Adkin and Annie Turner Wilson. She was a homemaker and a member of Northside Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Edith Dawson and Judy Rice; and brothers, Billy Wilson and Ned Wilson.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Goforth of Shelby; a son, Eddie Goforth of Shelby; and two brothers, Don Wilson of Starr, S.C., and Max Wilson of Chicago, Ill.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Earl, with the Revs. Neil Efird and Don Wilson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home after the service.
