Olon Franklin
MORGANTON — Mr. Olon Franklin, 87, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sossoman’s Colonial Chapel, with burial in Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 30 minutes before the service.
Mary Shillinglaw
MARION, S.C. — Mrs. Mary Wells Stevenson Shillinglaw, 90, also of Montreat, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Marion County Medical Center, after an illness.
Born in Bennettsville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late William McClelland Stevenson and Evelyn Rogers Stevenson.
She was a graduate of Winthrop College and taught in the public schools of Rock Hill, Fort Mill and Mount Pleasant, S.C. She was a member of Marion Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Ryan Shillinglaw; a brother, Francis Stevenson; and a sister, Evelyn Richards.
She is survived by a son, Ben Shillinglaw of Columbia, S.C.; two daughters, Jane Waldrop of Marion and Evelyn Morehead of Shelby; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Marion Presbyterian Church, directed by Richardson Funeral Home.

Floyd Mullinax
BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mr. Floyd Mullinax, 90, of 1047 Dravo Road, died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at home.
Born in Kings Creek, S.C., he was a son of the late John and Fannie Bell Ham Mullinax. He was a retired farmer and logger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Dover Mullinax; sons, Charles and Carlton Mullinax; and a grandson, Eddie Mullinax.
He is survived by five daughters, Shirley Emory of Grover, Margie Hamrick and Mabel Pruitt of Shelby, Faye Pruitt of Earl and Geraldine Dover of Blacksburg; a son, Bobby Mullinax of Blacksburg; a nephew, William Dover of Blacksburg; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Shelby, with the Revs. Brian Harris and Fain Morrison and Dr. Barry Goodman officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Cook Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Jimmy, Doug and Mike Pruitt, Joe Hamrick, Horace Emory, B.S. Mullinax and Billy Dover.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Gordon Mortuary in Blacksburg and at other times at the home.

Pearl Watson
SHELBY — Mrs. Pearl Hicks Watson, 86, of 716 Polkville Road, died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late C.D. and Lou Gamble Hicks. She was a beautician. She was a member of Dover Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Watson, and sisters, Mae Phillips, Lee Ledford, Myrtle Robertson, Jewel Washburn and Ethel Turnbull.
She is survived by four nieces, Lula Patrick of Boiling Springs, Mary D. Beam of Shelby, Betty Washburn and Pat Harrison of Marietta, Ga.; and two nephews, C.D. Ledford of Cherryville and Charles D. Robertson of Shelby.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel, with the Rev. Ervin Price officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service.

SENECA, S.C. — Mr. Ronald Ray Patterson, 53, of 700 Mourning Dove Lane, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004.

FOREST CITY — Mr. Thomas “Shorty” Keeter, 81, of 108 Laurel Ave., died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at home.

Wanda Griffin
SHELBY — Mrs. Wanda Alexander Griffin, 53, of 522 Lee Drive, died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born Feb. 18, 1951. She retired from Union Carbide and was a member of Charity Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Claude Kelly; and her husband, John Franklin Griffin.
She is survived by her mother, Sarah Alexander of Shelby; a son, Roy Roger Goode Jr. of Shelby; a daughter, Donna Griffin of Shelby; a brother, Thomas Alexander of Earl; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Rickey and Rhonda Alexander, David and Lorraine Alexander and Jerry and Diane Alexander, all of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Kay and C.B. Clary of Shelby; and a sister, Jane Mayhue of Shelby.
The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Charity Baptist Church, with the Revs. Charlie Cook and Stanley Roark officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Frances Goforth
SHELBY — Mrs. Frances Carroll Goforth, 71, of Shelby, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Hospice at Wendover.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert Hall Goforth; their three sons and their wives, Blake and Pamela Goforth of Shelby, the Rev. Donald and Sharon Goforth of St. Paul’s and the Rev. Richard and Darlene Goforth of Watertown, N.Y. These wonderful marriages produced six extra-special, much-loved grandchildren, Blake Jr., Sallie, Amanda, Richard Jr., Michael and Robert Goforth.
Frances was a daughter of the late Lewis Richard and Sallie York Carroll. Blessed with coming from a family of eight sisters and two brothers, she is survived by one sister and her husband, Shirley and Hollis Wright of Charlotte; seven brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Pauline Carroll of Charlotte, Walter Ham of Charlotte, James Clark of Lake Wylie, S.C., W.L. and Ruth Goforth of Albemarle, Ray and Winnie Goforth of Surfside Beach, S.C., and Elaine and John Clark of Niceville, Fla.; and 40 special nieces and nephews, which include Michael and Iris Spangler and Jim and Sally Clark.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, with the Revs. Perry Holleman and Donald Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour before the service. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.

‘Skip’ Hartman Jr.
CUMBERLAND, Md. — Mr. Paul “Skip” Joseph Hartman Jr., 70, of Cumber-land, died Friday, July 2, 2004, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home in Maryland.
Born Aug. 21, 1933, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Paul Joseph Hartman Sr. and Ruth C. (Meister) Hartman.
A graduate of Catherman’s Business School, “Skip” was an Army Signal Corps veteran. He retired from the Cumberland Pharmacal Co., was a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. No. 63, and a life-long member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church.
“Skip” is survived by his wife, Marjorie Hartman; his two sons, Jeffrey Hartman and his wife, Rebecca, of Corinth, Texas, and David Hartman of Cumberland; his brother, Charles L. Hartman and his wife, Mary Ann, of Shelby; a special uncle, Robert H. Meister of Cumberland; and three grandchildren, April, Tyler and Madison Hartman.
The funeral was Tuesday at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating.
The family received friends Monday at Adams Family Funeral Home in Cumberland.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

BOSTIC — Mrs. Molly Ida Price Adair, 92, of 149 Fairhaven Drive, died Monday, July 5, 2004, at Fairhaven Rest Home in Bostic.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Forest City, with the Revs. Bob Philbeck and Johnny Crotts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. H.D. Tate officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
