SHELBY — Mrs. Kathie Adale Hunt, 54, of 318 Royster Ave., died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral is today at 3 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bo Wagner officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow in Mount Moriah Methodist Church in Casar.
The family received friends Tuesday and will have visitation other times at the home.
Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Willie ‘Mr. D’ Douglas
SHELBY — Mr. Willie James “Mr. D.” Douglas, 68, of 1816 Riveria Drive, Shelby, died May 23, 2004, at Hospice of Wendover.
A funerfal wil be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church with Pastor Lawrence Roseboro officiating. Burial will be in the church cemtery.
Genesis Funeral Service & Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Stephen Roach
ELLENBORO — Mr. Stephen Lee Roach, 58, of 2018 Hollis Road, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital.
A graveside service is today at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church, with the Revs. Wayne Toney and Scott Henson officiating.
The family received friends Tuesday night at Harrelson Funeral Home.
Frances Walker
SHELBY — Frances Lytton Greene Walker, 87, of Pleasant Ridge Community, Shelby, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Hospice of Cleveland County at Wendover. She was born in Cleveland County. Mrs. Walker was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where she belonged to the Pleasanteers, the Senior Adult Sunday school class and the church choir. She was also active in the Senior Adult Travel Group.
Mrs. Walker was a homemaker and she worked in the Dietary Department at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lane Greene and Dora Hawkins Greene; her husband, J. Z. Walker; brothers, Erman, Fred and Floyd Greene; sisters Elsie Smith, Selma Johnson, Edith Washburn, and Ruth Jones.
The survivors include her son and his wife, Joel and Kay Walker of Raleigh; daughter and her husband, Cheryl and Jim Taylor of Shelby; a son and his wife, Steve and Patti Walker of Denver, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Roslyn Greene of Shelby, Mary Martin of Arkansas; granddaughter and her husband, Kimberly and James Hudson of Raleigh; granddaughter, Wendi Walker of Boone; grandsons and their wives, Brad and Melissa Taylor of Shelby, Greg and Mischia Taylor of Shelby; granddaughter and her husband, Staci and Chris Harbinson of Mooresville; great –grandchildren Matthew, Kaylyn and Michael Hudson of Raleigh. Mrs. Walker is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
The service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church from 1:30 until 2 p.m. The Revs. Terry Cagle and Steve Austin will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 until 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Cleveland Funeral Services.

CASAR — Mr. Lester Junior Self, 61, of 105 Valleydale Drive, Casar, died on Monday, June 7, 2004, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at Olive Grove Baptist church. Visitation is from 1 until 2 p.m. on Sunday at Stamey Funeral Home.
Edley Millwood
BLACKSBURG, SC — Edley “Eddie” Ray Millwood, 58, formerly of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday cryptside at Clingman Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Friday at White Columns Funeral Home.
Robert Jennings
SHELBY — Robert Lee “Mack” Jennings, of 411 S. Suttle St., Shelby passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at the home of his aunt, Corine D. Hopper. He was the nephew of the late R. J. Hopper. He was born June 3, 1955.
Robert graduated from Shelby High School in 1973. He served in the Army from 1973 until 1975.
Those left to cherish fond and loving memories are one daughter, Monica Jennings of Charlotte; one son, Robert L. (Lavon) McGill of Cherryville; seven sisters, Patricia Jennings of New York, Dovie Brooks of Chester, Sheila Ager and her husband, Steve, Lucille Bradshaw and Ann Jennings, all of Shelby; Carolyn Jennings of Salisbury; Helen Whitlow of Newark, NJ; five brothers, Johnny Jennings of Shelby, and Lester Jennings of Grayson, Ga.
Robert “Mack” Jennings was caring, kind-hearted and a lot of fun. His smile would light up your day. Robert had a lot of friends and distant relatives. Mack will certainly be missed.
The funeral is 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Genesis Chapel in Shelby, with Dovie Brooks, Prophetess, officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns. The visitation is at 2 p.m. on Saturday, just prior to the funeral. Dockery’s funeral home is assisting the family.

LINCOLNTON — Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hamans Holland, 92, of Brian Center, 515 S. Generals Blvd., died Monday, June 7, 2004, at the Brian Center of Lincolnton.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the chapel of Ebony & White’s Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the chapel.

RUTHERFORDTON — Lionel Edward “Ed” Scott,Jr. 65, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. on Friday in Crowe’s Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Snarlgrove officiating. Visition will be from 2 until 3 p.m. on Friday in chapel. Crowes Funeral Home is serving the family.
Laura Bowman
CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Laura Elizabeth Morrison Bowman, 78, of 1150 Mary’s Grove Church Road, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 23, 1926, the daughter of the late Leslie Edward and Lucy Clementine Dellinger Morrison. Laura was a graduate of Cherryville High School and was retired from Sweetree Manufacturing Company in Cherryville as an inspector. She was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, S.E. “Doc” Bowman.
She is survived by a son, James Bowman of Cherryville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon and Ralph Wyont of Bessemer City, Debbie B. Gantt of Cherryville; three sisters, Edna Morrison of Cherryville, Ruth Hoyle of Kings Mountain and Mary Lou Walker of Morganton; four grandchildren, Beth York, Brad and Tori Sain and Darrin Kiser and a great-grandson, Cooper York.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Cherryville with the Revs. Jerry D. Brooks and David Rabb officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherryville.
The family is at the home and will receive friends today 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.

Barbara Jo Mauney
SHELBY — Mrs. Barbara Jo Allen Mauney, 62, of 3426 Artee Road, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 12, 1942, in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late Annie Lee Biggerstaff Allen and Johnnie Hugh Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Gene Mauney, and was employed for 28 years at PPG Industries.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Thurman “Son” Allen and Ronnie Allen; and a sister, Ann Ledbetter.
She is survived by a son, Mark Mauney of Shelby; a daughter, Regina Sparks of Lawndale; three brothers, Hugh Lee Allen of Kings Mountain, Charles Allen of Earl and Paul Allen of Casar; five sisters, Bunie Boheler of Pea Ridge, Alberta Hoppes of Ellenboro, Vangie Ledbetter and Polly Lankford, both of Shelby and Pat Wylie of Gaffney, S.C.; three grandchildren, Paul Sparks, Katie Sparks and Dylan Mauney; two great-grandchildren, Brook and Melissa Sparks; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.

LAND-O-LAKES, Fla. — Mr. Fred E. Leigh died Friday, May 26, 2004, in Land-O-Lakes.

CASAR — Mr. Lester Junior Self, 61, of 105 Valleydale Drive, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Jan. 12, 1943. He was employed at Brackett Roofing Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester William Self and Daisy Pomeroy Self; his stepmother, Gladys Self, a son, Jason Carroll Junior Self; three brothers, John, Hubert and Foy Self; three sisters, Ruby Self, Monette Self and Pauline Goode.
He is survived by his brother, Jim Self of Ellenboro; a brother, Jimmy Wright of Jefferson, Ga.; two sisters, Elizabeth Padgett of Lawndale; and Betty Whitlock of Jefferson, Ga.; a special nephew, Stephen Self of Casar and numerous nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Price officiating.
Burial will follow at Olive Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
