Ms. Lura Gertrude Evans

Ms. Lura Gertrude Evans, 91, of Cable Family Care in Morganton died Friday, July 4, 2003 at Grace Hospital. Born July 27, 1911 in Burke County she was the daughter of the Alexander Hamilton Evans and Henriette Branch Evans.

Ms. Evans was a member of the North Morganton United Methodist Church and worked her entire adult life as a care giver for others.

A son Charles Jerry Evans; sisters Mary Etta Evans Amos and Henry Mae Evans preceded her in death.

She is survived by; nephew Louie M. Amos Jr.; nieces Vivian Kay Murray and Joyce Amos Jones.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday , July 6, 2003 at Forest Hill Cemetery with the Reverend John Woods officiating.

Memorials in Ms. Evans’ memory may be made to the North Morganton United Methodist Church , 990 Sandford Drive, Morganton NC 28655.

Mrs. Lillie Pyatt Kincaid

Mrs. Lillie Pyatt Kincaid , 96, of North Green Street in Morganton NC, died March 16, 2004 at Grace Heights Nursing Center. Born July 26, 1907 in McDowell County she was the daughter of the late John Sam Paytt and Etta Holland Pyatt. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: Husband Larry A. Kincaid; step-daughter Sarah Panarese; stepsons Wilson Kincaid, Wade Kincaid; sisters Rosa Proctor and Glossie Laughridge.

Mrs. Kincaid graduated from Marion High School and received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State Teaching College. She began her career in a one – teacher school at Pinnacle in McDowell County. Her thirty eight years of teaching included Pinnacle, Dysartville and Glenwood Schools in McDowell County. Salem and Hill Crest Elementary Schools in Burke County. Her Students remember her as a firm, devoted, caring and excellent teacher. At her death she was a member of the Burk County Retired School Personnel.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Morganton where she had served in various capacities. One of her most important roles was teacher of the R.T. Claywell Sunday School Class, a service she gave, until health conditions brought her resignation.

She is survived by: stepsons Clyde Kincaid and Larry “Buddy” Kincaid Jr. both of Charleston S.C.; stepdaughters Mrs. Gena Williams, Mrs. Frances Winters both of Morganton, Mrs. Winnie Cordell of Asheville and a sister Nita Pyatt of Taylorsville and for a great number of years Rudelle Puette has been a friend and caregiver

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, March 18, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverend Carl Lindquist officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Thursday at Kirksey Funeral Home.

Memorials in Mrs. Kincaid’s memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 200 N King Street, Morganton NC 28655 or to a charity of ones own choice.

Thomas C. “Tater” Sheehan

On Wednesday, February 3, 2005 Thomas C. “Tater” Sheehan went home to be with the Lord, and his wife, Earline Conner Sheehan and his son, Billy Ray Sheehan.

Born in McDowell County to the late James Sheehan and Winnie Ray Sheehan, he was a member of New Manna Baptist Church and was a Veteran of WWII.

Surviving are three sons, James Sheehan, Walter Sheehan and Bruce Sheehan; four daughters, Kathy Radford, Carolyn English, Melissa Bradley and Janet Sheehan; two sisters, Viola Carter and Retter Baucom; twenty-three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services will be held 2:00 o’clock, Sunday, February 6, 2005 in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home with Reverends Tony Shirley and Bruce Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Eva Blackburn

Mrs. Eva Blackburn, widow of Burgess “Blackie” Blackburn, died, Wednesday, June 29, 2005, in Brevard, NC. She was 91.

Eva grew up in Mizpah, MN, and lived in Park Rapids, MN for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Siebengartner, son-in-law Bob Siebengartner, their two sons, Geoffrey & his wife Genevieve and their son, Andrew. Her other daughter, Sally and husband, Bill Noran and their daughters, Nicole and Suzanne Noran-Heinberg & her new husband, Ben Heinberg.

A memorial Service will be held 2:00PM, Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at The Evangelical Free Church in Grand Marais, MN.

Mr. Rickey Neil Chrisawn

Mr. Rickey Neil Chrisawn, 52, of Marion, died, Friday, July 4, 2003, at his residence. Born September 13, 1950, in McDowell County, he was a son of Park and Louise Smith Chrisawn, both of Marion. He was a member of the Greenlee Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr.Chrisawn is also survived by his wife, Donna Jill Renfro Chrisawn, of the home; a paternal grandmother, Dorothy Chrisawn, of Marion; a mother-in-law, Joyce Edwards, of Bakersville, NC; two daughters, Amanda Chrisawn DUNHAM AND HUSBAND, JASON, of Marion and Audra BABETTE Chrisawn, of Marion; One brother, Mike Chrisawn, of Marion; One sister, Teresa Chrisawn, of Marion; and one granddaughter, Adrianna DUNHAM of Marion.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM, Monday, July 7, 2003, in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion, with the Reverend Ricky Mason officiating. Interment will follow at the West Court Cemetery. Visitation for the Chrisawn family will be 6:00PM-8:00PM, Sunday, July 6, 2003, at Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion.

Floral Tributes are accepted. Those who wish may make memorials in Rick’s memory to Hospice of McDowell County, 218 Logan Street, Marion, NC, 28752.

Mrs. Mabel Elizabeth Bishop Arney

Mrs. Mabel Elizabeth Bishop Arney, 87, of Riverside Court in Morganton died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Morganton Long Term Care. Born in Black Mountain she was the daughter of the late Hiram Draper Bishop and Nell Harris Bishop. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Otis Arney and a brother.

Born in Black Mountain, she spent the early part of her life in Marion and the most of her adult life in Morganton. Mrs. Arney was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Morganton and was the executive secretary for the Burke County Chapter of the American Red Cross for thirty seven years, retiring in 1987.

She is survived by: a son James Arney and wife Brenda of Morganton, grandchildren Emily Jones and Christopher Jones and a cousin W.T. Harris of Centreville Maryland.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, December 11, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Morganton with the Reverend Carl Lindquist officiating.

The family will receive friends 6:30 till 7:30 Wednesday at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Memorials in Mrs. Arney’s memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 200 N. King Street, Morganton, NC 28655.

Mrs. Glenna Leach

Mrs. Glenna Leach, 83, of Arden, NC, died, Sunday, March 21, 2004, at Mission Hospital, Asheville, NC. Born April 4, 1921, in Columbus, OH,

she was a daughter of the late Walter Wilkins and Alta McCray Wilkins. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Leach.

Mrs. Leach is survived by a son, William Kull, and wife Laura, of Groveland, FL; A daughter, Carol Leicht, and husband Russell, of Arden, NC; one sister, June McGuire, of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive Mrs. Leach.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Leach will be held 7:00PM, Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at the Zephyrhills Baptist Church, Asheville, with the Reverend Danny Gasperson officiating. Interment will be in Fort Lauderdale, FL at a later date.

The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the services at the Church.

Mr. Walter Edward Lippincott, Sr.

Mr. Walter Edward Lippincott, Sr., 85 of Burke Long Term Care, Morganton, NC died Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Grace Hospital.

He was born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey on September 3, 1919 and was a son of the late Frank R. Lippincott and Ethel Stanton Lippincott.

Mr. Lippincott was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy and was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Disabled American Veterans. He was retired from the construction business where he worked as a fork lift operator.

Surviving him are sons, Walter E. Lippincott, Jr. and wife Gladys, of Morganton, NC; Ronald C. Lippincott of Palataka, FL; Donald A. Lippincott of Reigelsville, PA and William E. Lippincott and wife Pamela, of Gainsville, FL; daughters, Margaret Greenleaf of Irving, TX; Ethel E. Leonard of Pensacola, FL; Helen C. Eichland and husband, Darwin of Ottsville, PA and Ruth Ann Rick and husband, Ralph, of Perkasie, PA;, a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Snyder Funeral Home in Reigelsville, PA. Visitation will be Monday, February 7th from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service where he will be laid to rest beside his wife, Gladys Viola Rooks Lippincott.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton, NC.; out-of-town arrangements by Snyder Funeral Home, Reigelsville, PA.

Mr. James Isaac Fullwood

Mr. James Isaac Fullwood, 82, of Marion, died, Thursday, July 3, 2003, at the McDowell Hospital. Mr. Fullwood was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM, Sunday, July 6, 2003, at the St. John’s Methodist Church, Nebo. Interment will follow at the St. John’s Methodist Church Cemetery.

Jack P. Marlowe

Jack P. Marlowe, age 69, of Woodbridge, VA died after a two year battle with asbestos lung/lymph cancer. He was self employed in the excavation, demolition and trucking business for over 39 years and truly enjoyed his work. He also enjoyed farming and was an avid hunter and card player. He served in the US Navy, USS Leyte 1955-1959.

He is pre-deceased by his first wife, of 35 years, Anna Ruth Austin Marlowe, in 1990, formerly of Glenwood, his mother-in –law Pearl Ruth Austin of Glenwood also in 1990, his mother Tennie Stines Marlowe in 1994 and his father, Lawrence Marlowe in 1999.

He is survived by only one son, Jeffrey Powell Marlowe of Woodbridge, VA and his wife, Eileen Wood Marlowe, of the home. He is also survived by Anna’s first son, William Bruce Austin and Anna’s only two grandsons; Bruce “BJ” Allison of Dumfries and Willie Austin and Sharon Austin of Manassas, VA, and Eileen’s two daughters, Teresa (and Greg) Franklin and Pamela (and Andre’) Lofton and Eileen’s grand daughter, Taylor Joanne Franklin. He is also survived by 6 sisters and 3 brothers: Doug Marlowe of Marion, Edith and Doyle Goforth of Marion, Faye Woody of Marion, Joyce Crouch of Lenoir, Jane and Gene Davis of Spindale, Robert and Susan Marlowe of Parker, CO, Louise and Vaughan Haney of Lenoir, Linda and Ronald Padgett of Glenwood, Frank and Faye Marlowe of Glenwood, numerous nieces and nephews, also Blanche Piercy, Tommy and Shirley Ramsey and Hayes and Michael Ramsey all of Andrews, NC.

He also leaves many treasured extended families: The Allison family, The Gates Families and The Lazy Susan Dinner Theatre, The Smith’s and Golden Construction, Ronald & Edna Kuhn, Bill & Sue Gibbs, Beverly Whritenour and Charlie Wampler and family, Mary Ellen Ferlazzo Steele and family, Elaine and Brandi Simms, Wayne Bailey, T&O Contractors and all of the Wood families.

Services will be held Thusday, December 11, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the McCall Memorial Chapel at Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion. Burial will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mary Viola Berry Ingle

Mrs. Mary Viola Berry Ingle, 100, of Plumas Avenue in Yuba City California died Sunday March, 21, 2004 in Yuba City. Born February 9, 1904 in Burke County she was the daughter of the late Caleb L. Berry and Julia Akins Berry. Mrs. Ingle was preceded in death by; her husband Marcus Albert Ingle, seven brothers , two sisters and two foster children Louise Patton and William J. Ingle.

Mrs. Ingle was homemakers who help on the family farm in the Silver Creek Area of Burke County. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by: a son Kenneth M. Ingle and wife Betty of Marysville California; grandchildren Jennifer Treadway and husband David, Lisa Butler and husband George and five grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Burke Memorial Park with the Reverend Bruce Johnson officiating.

Memorials in Mrs. Ingle’s memory may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church, Dysartville Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
