Dorothy Justice

SHELBY — Mrs. Dorothy Sansing Justice, 79, of 110 Philbeck St., died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel S. and Mary Blanton Sansing. She was a homemaker and a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lem Justice; a son, Jerry Justice; three brothers, Carl, Sam and J.M. Sansing; and three sisters, Ruth Daves, Meta McSwain and Sue McSwain.

She is survived by her son, Stacy Justice of Shelby; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Kenneth White of Shelby and Ginger and Steve Poteat of Cherryville; sisters, Pantha Brown and Aletha Fisher, both of Shelby, and Nell Daves of Polkville; six grandchildren, Tim Poteat and wife, Lisa, of Shelby, Tabitha Poteat of Tupelo, Miss., Robert Campbell of Marion, S.C., Curtis Justice of Shelby, and Kevin Justice and Sherry Justice of Anderson, S.C.; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Poteat, Amber Wilson, Tiffany Davis, Taylor Justice and Zach Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral is today at 4 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Leland Kerr officiating.

Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour before the service and at other times at the home of Ginger and Steve Poteat, 169, North Shore Drive, Cherryville.

Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund, 1165 Wyke Road, Shelby, NC 28150.

Annie Wilson

SHELBY — Mrs. Annie D. Turner Wilson, 101, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.

The funeral is today at 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, with Dr. Don F. Wilson and the Revs. Joe Paul Turner Jr. and David Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall an hour before the funeral.

Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn Bolin

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Kathryn Long Bolin, 85, of Phifer Road, died Friday, May 28, 2004, in Fountain Valley, Calif.

She was born in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Therman Dewitt and Mary Etta Grigg Long, and the widow of James Bolin. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a retired artist and designer for Neisler Mills.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney Kendel and Ester Bolin of Fountain Valley, a grandson, Matthew Bolin; a stepmother, Onie Long of Kings Mountain; a brother, Roy Long of Kings Mountain; and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Louise and Ernest Maples, Aurilla Fisher and Carolyn Webb, all of Kings Mountain; two stepsisters, Edith Humphries of Gastonia and Sally Gant of Kings Mountain; and three sisters-in-law, Eula Wilson, Pauline Bolin and Mr. and Mrs. Buron Peeler.

The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Blanton officiating.

Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the building fund at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1017 Bethlehem Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.

Mary Lipscomb

FOREST CITY — Ms. Mary Elizabeth London Lipscomb, 82, of Mae’s Rest Home, formerly of Shelby, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Rutherford Hospital in Rutherfordton.

She was the daughter of the late James and Bell McBrayer Lipscomb and a native of Cleveland County. She was a member of Waddell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Shelby, where she was a former member of the choir.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Baxter Roseboro, and her second husband, Ed Lipscomb.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine Roseboro and Justin Edward Austin of Orange, N.J.; six grandchildren, John S. Austin, Derrick Austin, Clyde, Keith and Marshal Austin and Kimberly Prime; six great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Margaret London of Shelby.

The funeral will be Friday at noon at Waddell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Shelby, with the Rev. Bobby King officiating.

Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Chuck Carter

SHELBY — Mr. Charles Michael “Chuck” Carter, 34, of 419 Allen St., died Sunday, May 3, 2004, in Shelby.

Born in Cleveland County, Mr. Carter graduated from Crest High School and worked at Ingles Supermarket and most recently at Bi-Lo in the meat department.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jody and Edith Carter, and his maternal grandfather, Robert Bost.

He is survived by his parents, J.V. “Buddy” and Diane Bost Carter of the home; a grandmother, Melba Lowdermilk of Lebanon, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Tonya Carter of Caroleen; a sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Mark Tucker of Belwood; two nieces, Lauren Elizabeth Carter and Cora Lynn Tucker; and a nephew, Noah Alexander Tucker.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gervase Hitch officiating.

The family will receive visitors at the church fellowship hall following the service.

Memorials may be made to Blanton Scholarship Fund, c/o Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, 1420 South Lafayette St., Shelby, NC, 28152.

Annie Wilson

SHELBY — Mrs. Annie D. Turner Wilson, 101, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.

Born in Cleveland County, Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. One of her proudest moments was being featured on Willard Scott’s Birthday salute in 2002.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Sallie Borders Turner; four children, Ned Turner Wilson, Billy Adkin Wilson, Edith W. Dawson, Judy W. Rice; her husband of 63 years, Adkin Andrew Wilson; six brothers, Forest, Claude, Robert, Albert, Paul and Dennis Turner: and three sisters, Polly Gibson, Lizzie Turner, and Ollie Camp.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. Don F. Wilson and wife Helen of Starr, S.C.; Max A. Wilson and wife Lucille of Chicago; a daughter, Sarah Goforth and husband James E. of Shelby and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Dr. Don F. Wilson, the Rev. Joe Paul Turner Jr., and the Rev. David Gordon officiating.

The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the funeral in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church P.O. Box 116, Earl, N.C. 28308 or to the Cleveland Pines Solarium Fund, 1404 North Lafayette Street, Shelby, NC 28150.

Lucille Gosnell

SPINDALE — Mrs. Lucille Ware Houser Gosnell, 85, of 612 Westwood Street, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at her home.

The funeral will be today at Spindale Church of the Brethren at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Wayne Toney and Charles Rinehart officiating.

A burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service at the church.

Crowe Funeral Home is serving the family.

James Hamrick

MOORESBORO — James Terry Hamrick, 63, of 1473 Ferry Road, Mooresboro, died at his home.

The funeral will be Wednesday at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour before the service.

Mildred Martin

SHELBY — Miss Mildred J. Martin, 85, of Whit-Mar Lake Road, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church. The burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Cleveland Funeral Services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Cleveland Funeral Services is serving the family.

Beatrice Hamrick

SHELBY — Mrs. Beatrice Hendrick Hamrick, 92, of 1118 Costner Road died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Carolina Care Center.

She was born Dec. 9, 1911 in Cleveland County. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hamrick was preceded in death by her parents, Chesley “Ches” and Mary Charity Spangler Hendrick, and her husband, Sherrill Hamrick Sr.; a son, C.L. Hamrick; four brothers, Austin, Milburn, A.D. and C.S. Hendrick; two sisters, America Wilson and Opheila Hendrick.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Sherrill and Geri Hamrick Jr. of North Augusta, S.C.; a daughter, Cynthia Hamrick of Grover; a brother, Doyle Hendrick of Shelby; a sister, Mary Ruth Crenshaw, of Gastonia; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Wednesday 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Rick Hamrick and Max Pendleton officiating. The burial will follow at the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

The family will receive visitors today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 3932 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Shelby, NC, 28150.

Talmadge Brackett

CASAR — Mr. Talmadge Lee Brackett, 73, of 6221 Casar Road, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 9, 1931 in Cleveland County. He was an electronic technician and retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Landrum and Hettie Mae Queen Brackett; a brother, Bill Brackett; a sister, Lula Mae McNeilly; and a brother-in-law, Paul McNeilly.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Hoyle Brackett; a son and daughter-in-law, Talmadge “Buddy” Brackett II and Jennifer of Casar; a brother and his wife, Rev. Garland and Anita Brackett of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; a brother and his wife, Cecil and Ruth Brackett of Casar; a brother and his wife Phillip and Mildred Brackett, of Casar; a sister, Margie Price of Casar; and two grandchildren, Brooke and Rocky Brackett.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Casar United Methodist Church with the Revs. Cecil Buff and Larry Thompson officiating. A burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at the church an hour before the service.

Memorials may be made to Casar United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 67, Casar, NC, 28020.
