Frederick Finger Jr.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Frederick Eli Finger Jr., 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, while a resident at Heritage Hills in Wadesboro.

He was born in Lincoln County, March 24, 1918, a son of the late Frederick Eli and Belle Miller Finger. Mr. Finger was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Kings Mountain and was a veteran of the Army, having served his country during World War II and the Korean conflict.

A memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bill Jeffcoat officiating. A private interment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

The family will greet friends at the church following the memorial service.

Surviving are his wife, Faye Pope Finger; his son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Tara Finger of Cornelius; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Robert Horton of Wadesboro and Joan and John Settlemyer of Huntersville; and his grandchildren, Frederick Eli Finger IV of New York, N.Y., Alan Randolph Finger of Raleigh, Kathryn Marie Finger and James Cotesworth Finger, both of Charlotte, Hunter Hutcheson Finger of Cornelius, Michael Seth Horton and Courtney Fay Horton, both of Raleigh, Robert Evan Horton of Wadesboro, and Anna Caroline Settlemyer and Luke Eli Baxter Settlemyer, both of Huntersville.

Also surviving are his brothers and sister-in-law, Carl Preston Finger and Daniel Miller and Dot Finger, all of Kings Mountain; and his sister, Sara Finger Warren of Lynchburg, Va.

Instead of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, N. Piedmont Ave., Kings Mountain, NC 28086; or to Barium Springs Home for Children, P.O. Box 1, Barium Springs, NC 28010.

Leavitt Funeral Home of Wadesboro is serving the family.

Allan Paul

SHELBY — Mr. Allan B. Paul, 72, of 410 W. Sumter St., died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.

Bena Gregory

GASTONIA — Mrs. Bena Bolin Gregory, 80, of 521 Wellons Drive, Apt. B, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at home.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hazel Boyd officiating.

Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 to 1:30 before the service.

Bobby Roper Sr.

RUTHERFORDTON — Mr. Bobby Lee Roper Sr., 59, of 146 Oak Springs Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Mountain Creek Baptist Church, with the Revs. Alan Beard and Billy Honeycutt officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Burial will be in Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Crowe Funeral Home.

‘Lib’ Spencer

BESSEMER CITY — Mrs. Bertha “Lib” Spencer, 66, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 22, 1937, in Gaston County, she was a daughter of Iva Fraley Burton of Bessemer City and the late Lloyd Baldwin.

She is survived by her children, Sheila and David Chapman of Las Vegas, Nev., Cindy and Bobby Whisnant and Loy and Brandi Spencer of Bessemer City, Ricky Spencer of Cramerton, Sandra and Jimmy Morrison of Shelby and Jennifer Spencer of Gastonia; a brother, Clyde Baldwin of Dallas; sisters, Betty Clark of Kings Mountain and Shirley Whetstine of Bessemer City; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Greene Funeral Service South Chapel, with the Rev. Matt Simpson officiating.

Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are Brian Lawrence, Michael Joy Spencer, Jimmy Jay Morrison, Ricky Spencer Jr., Jeremy Whisnant and Wayne Winfield Jr.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6 to 8.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 1229 Greenwood Cliff Suite 109, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Junior Baynard

FOREST CITY — Mr. Virgil Adam Baynard Jr., 74, of 137 Brookmont Ave., died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Autumn Care, Forest City.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, with the Revs. Ron Boone and Jerry Ruppe officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at The Padgett and King Mortuary.

‘Charleen’ Allen

SHELBY — Mrs. Addie “Charleen” Greene Allen, 83, of 1801 Country Club Garden Drive, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

In addition to previously listed survivors, Mrs. Allen is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Rass Greene; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, with Dr. Paul Sorrells and the Rev. Phil Hughes officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family received friends Wednesday at Cleveland Funeral Services.

Memorials may be made to Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 123 Beaver Dam Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152; or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 31 College Place STE D 320, Asheville, NC 28601-2644.

Lois Taylor

ELLENBORO — Mrs. Lois Mahaffee Taylor, 82, of 1210 Tiney Road, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at her home.

She was a native of Ruther-ford County, a daughter of the late John Boyd and Alma Lenora Marsh Mahaffee. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Jackson (Jack) Taylor and two brothers, John Boyd Mahaffee Jr. and Perry Gene Mahaffee. She was a 1938 graduate of Cliffside High School and retired from Cone Mills Cliffside Plant.

She is survived by one son Keith Taylor of Cliffside; one daughter, Jackie Toney of Ellenboro; four sisters, Inez Tate of Cliffside, Rose Mary Bailey of Mooresboro, Margie Horne of Shelby and Joyce Beason of Gaffney, S.C.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be today at 4 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Mollie Vanderwerken and Ad Hopper officiating.

Burial will follow in Cliffside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the service.

‘Polly’ Willis

LINCOLNTON — Mrs. Pauline “Polly” McCaslin Wilson, 87, of Carolina Care Center, Cherryville, formerly of Jerry Crump Road, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at her home.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Rhyne Heights United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Raymond Osborne and Randi Godfrey officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 6 to 8 and at other times at the home of Judie and Danny Eaker, 1149 Baxter Road, Cherryville.

Marie Jackson

SHELBY — Mrs. Marie Dalton Jackson, 83, of 1627 Caleb Road, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.

Arrangements will be announced by Washburn and Dorsey Funeral Home, Bostic.

Dura Grigg

MORGANTON — Mrs. Dura Belle Dedmon Grigg, 86, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at McDowell Nursing Center in Nebo, following a lengthy illness.

She was born Sept. 13, 1917, in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Buren and Jackie Hoyle Dedmon. Mrs. Grigg was a retired employee of Broughton Hospital, and was an avid seamstress and gardener.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Lawrence Grigg; brothers, Talmadge Dedmon and Ralph Waldo Dedmon; sisters, Corrine Putman and Faye Bush; and a grandson.

She is survived by children, Marjorie Dick and husband, Tom, of Morganton, Rebecca Trivett and husband, Jerry, of Newland, Patsy Caraway and husband, Roger, of Morganton, Kathy Turner and husband, Lee S., of Valrico, Fla., David L. Grigg, Jr. and wife, Regina, of Hampstead and Charles L. Grigg of Cherryville; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church, Shelby, with Rev. Kenneth Anderson officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight at Sossoman Funeral Home from 6 to 8, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral hour. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Patsy Caraway, 4011 Sherwood Heights, Morganton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the McDowell Nursing Center, 306 Deer Park Rd., Nebo, NC 28761; or to Hospice of McDowell County, 218 Logan St., Marion, NC 28752.

Eudolphus Harrill

FOREST CITY — Mr. Eudolphus Harrill, 77, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Oak Grove Health Care Center.

A graveside service will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Wayne Ratcliffe officiating.

The family will receive friends at The Padgett and King Mortuary from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service.

Donnie White

BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. — Mr. Donnie Harrison White, 54, of 121 Moss Lane, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at home.

He was the husband of Sherry Sullens White and son of Grace Crocker of Spartanburg, S.C. and the late Jay White. He was an Army veteran and served in Vietnam. He was also a Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry White of the home; one daughter, Alicia White of Spartanburg; one stepdaughter, Nicole Thomas of Spartanburg; two sons, Travis White and Donnie White and wife, Stephanie, all of Spartanburg; his mother and stepfather, Grace and Ray Crocker of Spartanburg; one sister and a brother-in-law, Angie and Joe Vaughn of Spartanburg; two grandchildren, Alan Belcher and Carly White; and a stepgranddaughter, Siara Thomas.

The funeral will be today at 4 p.m. at Eggers Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Kenneth Cash and J.M. Ezell officiating.

Burial will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park.
