CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Addie Mae Stubblefield Kester, 95, of Countryside Manor, Stokesdale, formerly of Cherryville, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at her home.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in City Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Perry Holleman officiating.
The family will receive friends one and a half hours before the service at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
Lincy Ledbetter
SHELBY – Lincy Proctor Beam Ledbetter, 91, passed away Aug. 27, 2003, in Terrell, Texas, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimher’s disease.
A graveside service will be held today at 4 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the agency of the donor’s choice.

Madison O'Dell
ELLENBORO - Madison Storm O'Dell, infant daughter of Brian Douglas and Kristy Evans O'Dell of 432 Ellenboro-Henrietta Road, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at home.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Camp officiating.
Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

Ruby Gladden
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Ruby Joy Gladden, 82, of 534 Baker St., died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
She was a native of Cleveland County, daughter of the late James Harvey and Nola Lawing Joy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Luther Joy, Grady Joy and Jimmy Joy; and her sisters, Lorene Pearson, Eva Humphries and Margaret Millwood. She retired from the textile industry and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir.
She is survived by a son, Donald Gladden and wife, Judy, of Fountain Inn, S.C.; a daughter, Pat Smith and husband, Don, of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Tracie Merchant and husband, Chris, of Blacksburg, S.C., Lisa Sisk and husband, Darrell, of Kings Mountain, Dona Carey and husband, Scott, of Gastonia and Ava Joyner and husband, Eddy, of Nashville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Corey Phillips, Katie Sisk, Jacob Merchant, Courtney Carey and Caleigh Carey.
The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.R. Robbins officiating.
Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Harris Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Marthell Hartman
LAWNDALE — Mrs. Marthell Poole Hartman, 82, of 117 Charity Drive, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 22, 1920, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Poole and Minnie Hudson Poole. She was a homemaker and member of Charity Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Blanche Edgar Hartman; and three infant sons.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Bernadine Hartman of Lawndale; four daughters and four sons-in-law, Margaret and Ken Willis of Cherryville, Jeanette and Jim Gulledge of Waco, Betty and Buster McKinney of Ellenboro and Martha and Tim Lankford of Kings Mountain; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Charity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Cook officiating.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.

ELLENBORO — Mrs. Bessie Morehead Pitchford, 88, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Rutherford Hospital.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in Mount Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery.

BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mr. Eddie Nelson Smith, 48, of 137 Zayes Road, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Blacksburg.

Bobby Horne
SHELBY — Mr. Bobby Horne, 69, of 3721 Five Points Road, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at home.
Born in Chesterfield County, S.C., he was a son of the late Luke Horne and Bessie Sherrin Horne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J.W. Horne; and a sister, Eva Griffin.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Elliott Horne of the home; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Doug Hawkins of Waxhaw; a son and his wife, Marc and Debbie Horne of Polkville; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kasey, Stephanie and Amber; great-grandchild, Shelby; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Ruth and Richard Starnes of Matthews, Carolyn and Bobby Wright and Marcine Rorie, all of Monroe and Linda and Joe Simpson of Locust.
A graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. in the Elliott Family Cemetery, with Dr. Jim Richardson and the Rev. Joe Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home following the service.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Barbara Weikum
CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Barbara Marcel Garren Weikum, 64, of 703 S. Maple St., formerly of Iris Street, Miwaukie, Ore., died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at home.
She was born in Mecklenburg County on March 22, 1938, daughter of the late Frank and Alice Hyatt Garren, wife of the late Lewis L. Weikum Sr. Barbara was a mother and homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Matthew Scott Weikum of Cherryville; two brothers and their wives, Grady and Vency Garren of Lexington and Jack and Joy Garren of Cherryville; two sisters, Ellen Jennings and husband, Hilton, of Cherryville and Viola Stone of Eden; 15 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in City Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. before the service at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.

FOREST CITY — Mr. Joe Hodge Beheler, 79, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at White Oak Manor.

Burial will be in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

‘P.D.’ Crowder JR.
SHELBY — Mr. Plato Dixon “P.D.” Crowder Jr., 72, of 1007 Mooresboro Road, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Vada Spangler and Plato Dixon Crowder Sr. He retired from Bell South Telephone Co. and farmed and was known for producing pumpkins and eggs. He was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church, formerly a member of the Lions Club and a former director of the Federal Land Bank.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lou Hendrick Crowder; and a grandson, Brett Bankhead.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Earley Bray Crowder of the home; one son, P.D. “Dick” Crowder III and wife, JoAnne, of Mooresboro; two stepsons, Mike Bray and wife, Kay, of Winston-Salem and John Bray and his wife, Melanie, of South Korea; three daughters, Gina Suttle and husband, Vance, of Shelby, Betsy Bankhead and husband, Mike, of Lattimore and Lena McWhirter and husband, Alan, of Boiling Springs; one stepdaughter, Ann Bray of Gaffney, S.C.; four sisters, Ruby Hunt and husband, Jack, of Lattimore, Mary Beam and husband, Frank, of Shelby, “Veva C.” Gold and husband, Donald, and Patsy Cabiness and husband, Doug, all of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Dylan, Dakota, and Dixon Crowder III, Clay, Lou and Jess Bankhead and Kendyl and Erin McWhirter; and six stepgrandchildren, Lauren, Madison, Jordan, Taylor, Ethan and Hannah Bray.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Randy Bridges and the Rev. Max Burgin officiating.
The family will receive friends at graveside after the service and at other times at the home of Dick and JoAnne Crowder, 931 Mooresboro Road, Mooresboro.

John Harrill
FOREST CITY — Mr. John Z. Harrill, 83, a resident of Autumn Care, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late John Kendrick Harrill and Cora Butler Harrill and widower of the late Bernice Hawkins Harrill, who died in 2000. Mr. Harrill retired from Burlington Industries, J.C. Cowan Plant. He was a member of Florence Baptist Church and the Virgil Webb Sunday School Class and served in the U.S. Army 6th Armored Division during World War II, receiving five Bronze Stars.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, John Michael Harrill, in 1968.
Survivors include a son, Robert Harrill of Forest City; a brother, Billy Thomas Harrill of Mooresboro; three grandsons, Thad Harrill, Jason Harrill and Kevin Harrill; and six grandchildren, Sydney Harrill, Brenn Harrill, Autumn Grace Harrill, Weston Harrill, Annsley Harrill and Faith Harrill.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Florence Baptist Church, with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating.
Interment will follow in Cool Springs Cemetery.
Visitation will be tonight from 6:30 to 8 at The Padgett and King Mortuary.
