James Cline

CHERRYVILLE — Mr. James Kenneth Cline, 58, of 2524 Brookfield Dr., Grover, formerly of Cherryville, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in Rock Hill, S.C.

He was born Oct. 7, 1944, in Lincoln County to the late Blaine William and Lillie Gordon Cline. He was a retired truck driver for John Arthur Trucking.

He is survived by a daughter, Frances Mae Seate of Cherryville; a brother, Dennis Ray Cline of Cherryville; three sisters, Thelma Cline Davis of Lincoln County, Eunice Christine Stephens of Vale and Mildred Ann Floyd of Grover; and two grandchildren, Stacy and Christopher Donaldson of Cherryville.

Memorial services will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenters Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

The family will receive friends two hours before the memorial service and at other times at the home of Thelma Davis, 6664 Charleston Trail, Cherryville.

Fred Hinson

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Fred O. Hinson, 89, of White Oak Manor, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at his residence.

The funeral will be at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Wayne Reese and Richard Prow officiating.

Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Harris Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Shirley Hinson, 105 N. Tracy St., Kings Mountain.

J.S. Lattimore Jr.

LAWNDALE — Mr. Jethro Sumner Lattimore Jr., 85, of E. Main St., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Haven in the Hills.

Born in Cleveland County Aug. 29, 1918, he was preceded in death by his parents, Jethro Sumner Lattimore and Luster Mary Southards Lattimore, as well as three brothers, Frank, Eugene and Sam Lattimore; and two sisters, Mildred Gold and Grace Dayberry.

He worked as a landscaper for the N.C. Highway Department before retiring and attended New Bethel Baptist Church. He also served with the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater, receiving two bronze stars and a Purple Heart.

Survivors are a brother and sister-in-law, James A. and Mackie Lattimore of Lawndale; a niece, Norma Koch of Troy; and four nephews, Jimmy Gold of Shelby, Kenneth Dayberry of Miami, Fla., Jim Lattimore of Ft. Bragg, and Don Lattimore of Salisbury.

A graveside service will be today at 1:30 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Ronell Owensby officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and at other times will be at the home of James and Mackie Lattimore, 131 Ball Park Road, Lawndale.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.

Arrangements are being handled by Stamey Funeral Home.

Dollie Lynch

FOREST CITY — Mrs. Dollie Lynch, of 128 McDaniel St., Apt. D, passed away at her residence on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Thompson Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. of Forest City.

Michael Connor

SHELBY — Mr. Michael Connor, 56, of 1211 Brookwood Drive, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, from injuries in a Kings Mountain car accident.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lon “Junior” Connor; and two brothers, Dennis and Tommy Connor.

He earned an Associate’s Degree from Cleveland Community College and served in the Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. Retired from Kosa Textiles, he worked part-time at Advance Auto Parts Distribution Center. A member of Second Baptist Church, he was an avid golfer.

Survivors are his mother, Helen L. Martin Connor of Shelby; his wife of five years, Robin Lee Connor of the home; a son, Jeremy Guerrant and wife Christina of Marietta, Ga.; two daughters, Victoria Canipe and husband Wendell of Shelby, Amy Blalock and husband Jon of Kings Mountain; a brother, Steve Connor and wife Donna of Shelby; a sister, Becky McCraw and husband Neil of Boiling Springs; and four grandchildren, Olivia and Sarah Blalock, and Matthew and Kayln Guerrant.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Cemetery, with the Dr. Jerry Lail officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes. Foundation of Cleveland County, in care of Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Jerry McKeithan

FOREST CITY — Mr. Jerry Richard McKeithan, 71, of 195 S. Woodland Ave., died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at home.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Spencer Baptist Church, with the Rev. Billy Vaughn officiating. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Bostic Cemetery.

Crowe’s Mortuary and Chapel is serving the family.

Charlie Shytle

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Charlie H. “Poochie” Shytle, 70, of 121 Kingswood Drive, Huntsville, Ala., went to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 29, 2003.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral home. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Harris Funeral Home.

Lincy Ledbetter

SHELBY — Mrs. Lincy Proctor Beam Ledbetter, 91, formerly of Shelby, died Wed. Aug. 27, 2003, in Terrell, Texas after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was a native of Cleveland County, and daughter to Baylus and Austie Hamrick Proctor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Robert Beam, her second husband, “R.K.” Ledbetter; two brothers, Arthur and Melvin Proctor; and two sisters, Mary Lou Proctor Beam and Dorcus Borders.

Lincy was a homemaker and she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Shelby for 60 years.

She is survived by a son, Joe D. Beam Sr. and wife Katherine of Rowlett, Texas; a grandson, Joe Donald Beam Jr. of Garland, Texas; a granddaughter, Joann Beam Clark and her husband, Gregory of Wills Point, Texas, and Cody Clark of Wills Point.

A graveside service was held Saturday at Sunset Cemetery with the Rev. Perry Holleman officiating.

Memorial gifts may be made to the donor’s choice.

Dorothy Hines

RUTHERFORDTON — Mrs. Dorothy Huntley Hines, 98, of Poors Ford Road, died Saturday morning, Aug. 30, 2003, at Oak Grove Health Care Center after a period of declining health.

A native of Rutherford County. she was born May 28, 1905.

Visitation will be held today at Crowe’s Chapel from 4 to 5 p.m. Private funeral services will be held at a later time.

Memorials may be made to the Huntley Family Cemetery, 1051 Poors Ford Road, Rutherfortdon, NC 28139.

Crowe’s Mortuary and Chapel is serving the family.

Ralph Lail

BLACKSBURG, S.C. —Reverend Ralph A. Artemis Lail, 75, of 1024 Bridges Road, went to be with the Lord Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 27, 1927, in Cleveland County, N.C., he

was the son of John L. Lail and Nellie Queen Lail. He served in the Navy and was a service manager for many years at Lackey/Blanton Pontiac Cadillac and later in life was called to the ministry. He preached at Calvary Baptist Church in Gaffney, S,C., Morgan Memorial in Greenville, S.C., Buffalo Baptist in Shelby, Peters Creek in Dacus, S.C. and retired from Beaver Dam in Gaffney, S.C.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Alan Lail.

Survivors are his wife, Faye Willis Lail of the home; a son, John Michael Lail of Gaffney, S.C.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen and Beau Stephens of Greensboro, N.C.; Shelley J. Case of Starr, S.C.; and Nancy and Ronald Foster of Cliffside, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Earl J. and Barbara Lail of Shelby; two sisters, Maxine Nanney and Dorothy S. Greene, both of Shelby; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mulls Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. B. Ervin Price officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Mulls Memorial Baptist Church, 3299 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC 28150.

Mary Flack

RUTHERFORDTON — Mrs. Mary Flack, 82, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Rutherford Hospital in Rutherfordton.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Thompson Brothers Funeral Home of Forest City.

Melvin Jordan

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Melvin James Jordan, 61, of 1108 N. Rollingbrook Court, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Brian Center.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel with the Rev. Ron Brogdon officiating.

Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Lowell.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Sara Carr

SHELBY — Mrs. Sara Elizabeth Carr, 81, passed away Aug. 26, 2003, in Hampton, Va.

Born Dec. 21, 1921, she was the oldest of four daughters of Odessa McGinnis Riddle and James E. Riddle. Her husband, Samuel L. Carr; her mother, Odessa Riddle; her father, James Riddle; and a sister, Billie Herndon, preceded her in death.

A woman of great Christian faith, Sara Carr was a member of Zoar Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Michael L. and Rusty Carr of Virginia Beach, Va.; a granddaughter and great-grandson, April Carr Stearns and Zachary Samuel Stearns of Shelby; a grandson, Michael L. Carr Jr. and his wife, Lisa; and a great-grandson, Luke, also of Shelby; two sisters, Iris Hamrick Emery and Betty Allen Stubbs of Shelby; a special niece, Cassie Herndon Tarpley of Shelby; nieces Jan Walker of Hickory, Benita Runyans of Shelby, Debi Dubard of Rock Hill, S.C., and Martha Herndon of Jacksonville, Fla.; nephews Steve Allen of Shelby, Craig Hamrick of Dandridge, Tenn., and John Jack Herndon of Athens, Ga.; and a special friend and caregiver, Cheryl Ann Adam of Hampton, Va.

The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Zoar Baptist Church, with Dr. Marvin Gobble officiating. Pallbearers are from Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department.

Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.

The family received friends Friday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and today after the graveside service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to Zoar Baptist Church, building fund, 1740 S. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC 28152, or to Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department, which Sam Carr helped found, 221 W. Graham St., Shelby, NC 28150.
