CAROLEEN — Mr. Billy Watts, 25, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at home.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Harmon Street Baptist Church, with Dr. Eddie Rape and the Rev. Tom Frady officiating.

Burial will be later in Sunset Memorial Park.

Harrelson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Blanton

BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mrs. Shirley Owana Blanton, 67, of 602 S. Shelby St., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at home.

A graveside service will be held today at 11 a.m. in Frederick Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Charlie Barnard officiating.

The family received friends Tuesday at White Columns-Blacksburg Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Bob Blanton, 605 S. Shelby St., Blacksburg.

Willo Wood

SHELBY — Mrs. Willo Dean Wood, 70, of 1425 New Prospect Church Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born July 11, 1933, in Rutherford County, she was a winder for Doran Mill before retiring. She was a member of Friendly Chapel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.C. Walker; her second husband; Charles Wood, and her parents, D.B. and Elsie Ola Earley.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Martha Walker of Camden, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Junior Ledford of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and John Heckerman of Garden City, S.C.; a daughter, Renee Beck of Cherryville; a daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Kevin Bedenbaugh of Hickory; two brothers, J.D. Earley of Michigan and W.C. Earley of Forest City; five sisters, Louise Beaver and Brenda Peppers, both of Caroleen, Frankie Hudson of Golden Valley, Diane Lovelace of Forest City and Judy Lyda of Hendersonville; five grandchildren, Doug Morrison, Melissa and John Beck and Grayson and Alley Bedenbaugh; and three great-grandchildren, Amber, Brook and Willo Morrison.

The funeral will be at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel Thursday at 2 p.m., with the Revs. Ricky Poteat and Charles Battle officiating. Burial will be at Friendly Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Rutherford County Kidney Association, 1017 N. Washington St., Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Evelyn Gaston

Sunrise

SHELBY — Ms. Evelyn Jenelle Gaston, 58, was born Feb. 4, 1945, to the late Cofford and Annie Elizabeth Miller Hopper in Cleveland County.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cofford Hopper Jr. and Roy Dean Hopper.

Evelyn joined Shoal Creek Baptist Church at an early age. She graduated from Camp High School in 1963. She was employed with Cleveland Memorial, Fiber Industries and Doran Textiles. She helped others during her journey … through Christ.

She resided with Richard and Virginia Whittenburg at 3325 Mistywood Drive, Charlotte.

Sunset

Evelyn departed her life on Aug. 28, 2003, at Presbyterian Hospital. She leaves behind her former husband, Willie Joe Gaston; two children, Anthony (Paula) Gaston and Angela (Desmond) Jones; four grandsons, Aric Gaston, Mario and Martrail Wilson and Sidney Jones; two granddaughters, Jerae’ Gaston and Sophia Jones; and a great-granddaughter, Nautica Gaston.

Evelyn also leaves behind two brothers, Thomas L. Hopper (Ruth) of Charlotte and James W. Hopper (Doris) of Shelby; six sisters, Lillie Alberta Leak of Spartanburg, S.C., Helen Harbinson (Jimmy) of Vale, Virginia Whittenburg (Richard) of Charlotte, Betty E. Sloan (Rayford), Doris Leak (Homer) and Ocie Hopper, all of Shelby; and three aunts, Mamie Elliot, Dorothy and Alma Wilson.

Evelyn also had a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and most important friends.

A very special thanks to Richard and Virginia Whittenburg for their assistance and patience during her illness. We graciously thank you. Also to Lisa Hopper, Leslie Burns, Jessica Williams and Pete Hopper. We thank you.

The service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. The body will lie in rest 30 minutes before the service.

Genesis Funeral Service & Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Mills

GAFFNEY, S.C. — Mr. Robert Dean Mills Sr., 66, of 803 Beech St. died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kirby Memorial Baptist Church with the Revs. Rick Lancaster and Mike Proctor officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends for an hour before the service Wednesday. At other times, they will be at the home.

White Columns-Gaffney is serving the family.

Archie Hamrick

SHELBY — Mr. Archie Griffin Hamrick, 79, of 1500 S. Morgan St., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Alice McCraw

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Mrs. Alice McCraw, 95, of White Oak Estates, formerly of Shelby, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Rev. Otis Wheelhouse Jr.

ELLENBORO — Rev. Otis Wheelhouse Jr., 70, of 124 Seaboard Road, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Rutherford Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

Buleanar Greene

FOREST CITY — Mrs. Buleanar Greene, 94, of 186 Foster Road, died at Rutherford Hospital, Rutherfordton, Monday, Sept. 1, 2003.

Arrangements will be announced by Thompson Brothers Funeral Home Inc. of Forest City.

Mira Lewis

FOREST CITY — Mrs. Mira Lewis, 92, of 126 Gypsy St., passed at her residence Monday, Sept., 1, 2003.

Arrangements will be announced by Thompson Brothers Funeral Home Inc. of Forest City.

Mary Flack

RUTHERFORDTON — Mrs. Mary Flack, 82, of Roper Loop Road, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Rutherford Hospital.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Gold Hill Baptist Church, Rutherfordton, with the Rev. Lewis Mills officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.

Burial will follow in Gold Hill Cemetery.

Thompson Brothers Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

FOREST CITY — Mrs. Dottie Johnson, 78, of 158 Helen Lane, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Thompson Brothers Funeral Home Inc., Forest City.

Dorothy Nixon

LINCOLNTON — Mrs. Dorothy Lee Nixon, 73, of 1109 E. Catawba St., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 at Beverly Healthcare Renaissance.

Ebony and White’s Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Gaston

CHARLOTTE — Mrs. Evelyn Jenelle Hopper Gaston, 58, of 3325 Misty Wood Drive, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003 at Presbyterian Hospital.

The funeral will be Wednesday at Shoal Creek Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Pastor Michael Issac officiating.

The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at Shoal Creek Baptist Church and at other times at the home of Anthony and Paula Gaston, 1409 Lenoir Dr., Shelby.

Genesis Funeral Service and Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Vaughan

SHELBY — Mr. Charles William “Bill” Vaughan, 51, of 1528½Kings Road, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.

He was born in Cleveland County to the late Charles William Vaughan Sr. and Helen Payseur Vaughan. He was a member of Temple Praise Church in Kings Mountain. He was a textile employee and a computer hobbyist. He served in the Army.

He is survived by two aunts, Doris McGinnis and Margaret Wilson, both of Kings Mountain; and one uncle, J.M. Vaughan of Shelby.

A graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Don Allen officiating.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Harris Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.
