Mr. Nickey Dwayne Tate
Mr. Nickey Dwayne Tate, 39, of Marion, died, Tuesday, February 24, 2004, at the McDowell Hospital. Born November 02, 1964, in McDowell County, He was a son of Victor Hubert Tate, of Marion and Ellen Elaine Tate Rutherford, of Marion. Mr. Tate was a self employed auto mechanic.
Funeral Services for Mr. Tate will be held 3:00PM, Sunday, February 29, 2004, at the St. John’s AME Church with the Reverends J.E. Williams and Pauline Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at the Rutherford Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the services at the Church.

Brenda Gail Duffey Vance
Brenda Gail Duffey Vance, 44 of Hillhaven Circle, Morganton, died Sunday, January 9, 2005 at High Point Regional in High Point, NC.
She was born on October 1, 1960 in Caldwell County and is the daughter of Clarence Earl Duffey of Thomasville, NC and the late Mary Catherine Greene Duffey.
Mrs. Vance was employed by Broyhill Furniture.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Larry Gene Vance of Lenoir; son, Paul Eugene Vance of Morganton and daughter, Belinda Gaile Vance both of the home.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday at Kirksey Memorial Chapel with Reverend Greg Zolninger presiding. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until time for the service.
Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton is assisting the Vance family with the arrangements.
Cheryl Moore Phillips
Cheryl Moore Phillips, age 36, of Old Fort, NC, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
A native of Coshocton County, Ohio, she was an employee of Broyhill Furniture in Marion, NC. Surviving are her husband, Ted Phillips; her father, Robert E. moore of Plain City, Ohio; paternal grandparents, Paul and Naomi Hosfelt of Coshocton, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 4 pm at Prairie Chapel Church.

Mr. Fred T. Mills
Mr. Fred T. Mills, born June 22, 1926, died, February 21, 2004, after a long illness. Fred’s spirit is now in the hands of his Maker. Fred was born in Marion to the late Dave (Slick) Mills and Nora Mills. He married Freddie McKinney, deceased in 1942, and never married after her death. Fred owned and operated several restaurants, car lots and was a maker of fine moonshine while a resident of Marion in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
After leaving Marion in the middle 60”s, he lived in Michigan as a car salesman. Fred also lived in Texas, Georgia and Florida.
Fred Mills is survived by four children, Tracy Seagle, of Las Vegas, David (Butch) Mills, of Georgia, Kathy Ratley, of Florida and Rebecca Clubb, of Michigan. He is also survived by his sister, Jane Ahrenstedt, of Marion; five grandchildren, Mike, Terry, Chris, Jennifer and Andy; and five great grandchildren, Nikki, Melissa, Samantha, Danielle and Jadelyn ; one niece, Vicky, and two great nieces, twins, Kaitlyn and Kearsten.
Funeral Services for Fred will be held 2:00PM, Thursday, February 26, 2004, at the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion. Interment will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2:00PM, prior to the services at the Funeral Home.

Albert Joseph Wozniak
Albert Joseph Wozniak, age 68, of 1060 Gateway Parkway, Old Fort, N.C., died Monday, January, 10, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital, Asheville, N.C.
Dr. Wozniak was born in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Gustav Wozniak and Genevieve Miller Wozniak. He grew up in Pitman N.J. and was a family physician in Williamstown, N.J. After 35 years of family practice, he retired in December, 1998 to Old Fort, N.C. Dr. Wozniak was a member of the American Osteopathic Assoc., American Academy of Family Physicians and Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was also an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and hunter.
Surviving Dr. Wozniak are his wife, of 43 years, Beverly; one son, Andrew J. Wozniak and wife, Lilibeth of Sewell, NJ; two daughters, Linda Van Antwerp and husband, David of Sewell, NJ and Patricia Thompson and husband, Eric of Charleston, SC; one brother, Edward G. Wozniak and wife, Lillian of Mullica Hill, NJ; nine grandchildren, Carl Albert Jewell, Katherine Jewell, Alden Thompson, Colby Thompson, Lauren Van Antwerp, Danielle Belsky, Aaron Belsky, Sam Belsky and Renee Belsky; and his beloved cat “Dobby”.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 o’clock Saturday, January 15, 2005 in the Old Fort chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. A “gathering” will be held at the Wozniak home after 1:00 o’clock later on Saturday.
A memorial service will also be held 11:00 o’clock Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Pitman, NJ.

Donnie Lee Bradley
Donnie Lee Bradley, age 53, died, June 25, 2003 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the McCall Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home Marion. Conducted by Rev. Gary Branch. The family Will receive friends one hour prior to the service .
Burial will follow at Salem Church Cemetery in Old Fort.
He is survived by his wife Madge Bennett, one brother David Bradlely of Tracy Ca. Sisters Sylvia Puckett and Bonnie Lemmons both of Greensboro and Dollie Perdue of Stocksdale N C and Christine Phillips of Jamestown N C.

Annette Washburn Morrow
Annette Washburn Morrow, age 76, of Marion, died November 10, 2003 at the McDowell Hospital.
Born in McDowell County to the late Jim Washburn and Annie Brown Washburn, she was a retired cloth inspector with Galey and Lord. Mrs. Morrow is preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Morrow.
She is survived by one son, William Morrow, of Marion; three daughters, Teresa Morris of Marion, Pam Whitesides of Marion, and Tammy Cook, of Nebo; two sisters, Myrtle Washburn of Marion, and Luzeal Blankenship of Nebo; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home- Marion at 3 PM with the Rev. Robert Vance presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons.

Mrs. Cathleen Carswell
Mrs. Cathleen Carswell, 67, of Rose Carswell Road in Morganton died Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at Mission St.Joseph Hospital in Asheville.
Born August 21, 1936 in Burke County she was the daughter of the late Roosevelt and Zennie Smith Carswell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son Rickey Allen Carswell.
She is survived by: brothers Frank Carswell, Marvin Carswell, John Ervin Carswell all of Morganton; sisters Dorothy Edna Carswell of the home, Ruby Carswell Watson of Lenoir; special nieces Kathie Carswell of the home, April Rose Carswell Peeler, great nephew Jesse Ervin Peeler; four nieces, seven nephews and a number of great and great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 28, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverends Donald Lovelace and David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:30 till 8 pm Friday at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Mrs. Sandy Ruth Smith
Mrs. Sandy Ruth Smith, 55, of Nebo, went to be with the Lord Monday, January 10, 2005, at The McDowell Hospital. Born September 12, 1949, in Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Leo Hollifield and Maxine Brewer Hollifield, of Nebo.
A loving wife, mother and “M’am”, Mrs. Smith leaves behind to cherish her memory, her mother, Maxine Hollifield; her husband, Ronnie Smith, of the home; a son, Winfred Smith and wife, Sherri, of Marion; two daughters, Clorissa Durkee and husband, Wayne, of Marion and Joy Johnson and husband, Steve, of Morganton;two brothers, Larry Hollifield, of Nebo and Michael Hollifield, of Valdosta, GA; a sister, Brenda Young, of Morganton; Mrs. Smith is also survived by seven grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Smith will be held 2:00PM, Wednesday, January 12, 2005, in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion, with the Reverends Marty Vess and J.B. Cope officiating. Interment will follow at the Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the Funeral Home.
Lester Riddle
Lester Riddle, age 96, of Marion, Died Friday Evening at her residence on Plemmons Place.
She was the daughter of the late Issom and Betsy Edwards Ramsey and the wife of the late Robert Lee Riddle.
She was a housewife and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Arlene Kemick and her husband, Jerry, of New Lonon, NC; one sister, Virtle Bailey of Burnsville; one grandson, Lester Lee “Butch” Kemick and his wife, Catherine; and one great Grandson, Karstin Lee Kemick, all of Marion.
Services will be held on Tuesday, July 1 at the Bethel Baptist Church at 11 am conducted by Rev. Jimmy Upton. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 30 from 6-8 pm at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion.
