‘Jim’ Gallion
NEBO — Mr. James A. “Jim” Gallion, 79, died Saturday, August 2, 2003, at Lincoln Medical Center, Lincolnton.
A native of McDowell County, he was a son of the late Jacob Abner and Susan Earley Gallion. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a Navy veteran and retired textile employee.
Survivors include a son, Walter Gallion of Forest City; two daughters, Barbara Jolley of Forest City and Margie Pannell of Cherryville; a brother, Charles Gallion of Murphy, Texas; a sister, Lucille Arrowood of Marion; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday afternoon at 2 at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. T.B. Deese officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.

BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Ms. Tina Marie Wesson, 44, of 1086 Dravo Road, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at Upstate Carolinas Medical Center.
The funeral will be Monday afternoon at 2 at Westview Baptist Church with the Revs. Reese Linnell and Tim Drexler officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Interment will follow at Mount Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Gordon Mortuary, Blacksburg, and other times at the home, 1086 Dravo Road, Blacksburg.
Donald Lawson Sr.
BLACKVILLE, S.C. — Rev. Donald Edward Lawson Sr., 69, of 256 N. Baker St., died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at Aiken Regional Medical Center, Aiken, S.C.
A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Covenant Christian Center, 500 Peachoid Road, Gaffney, S.C., with the Revs. Jim McClure and Steve Lawson officiating.
Burial will follow at Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 at White Columns Funeral Service, Gaffney, and at other times at the Padgett home, 141 Fleming Road, Gaffney.

Christine Shuford
HICKORY — Mrs. Christine Isenhower Shuford, 66, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Born Sept. 22, 1936, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Horace and Christine Sherrill Isenhower. She was a homemaker and member of First Presbyterian Church. She served on the church Consistory. She attended Newton Conover City Schools and graduated from Peace Col-lege. She was a former member of Hickory Service League, a volunteer with United Way, where she served one term as chairman of budget and alloca-tion and president of Catawba Science Center.
She is survived by her hus-band, Edwin H. "Bud" Shuford of the home; a son, Edwin "Ed" H. Shuford III of Valle Crucis; a daughter-in-law, Beth Sain Shu-ford of Valle Crucis; a daughter, Chrissie Shuford Gulden of Shelby; a son-in-law, Brian Gulden of Shelby; a grandson, Cole Gulden of Shelby; two granddaughters, Emily Gulden of Shelby and Bailey Shuford of Valle Crucis; a brother, Horace J. Isenhower of Conover; and a sister, Lib Allen of Catawba.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Presby-terian Church with the Rev. Dr. Wallace Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

DALLAS, N.C. — Mr. George Damon Smith, 79, of 826 Ike Lynch Road, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Century Care of Gastonia in Gastonia.

Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

MORGANTON — Mrs. Hope Loflin Jefferiess, 91, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Catawba Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Hick-ory.

Rufus Clark Sr.
PATTERSON SPRINGS — Mr. Rufus James Clark Sr., 82, of 1800 Creek Ridge Road, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Winder, Ga., he was a son of the late Ernest Duffey and Minnie Lou Phillips Clark. He retired from The Shelby Star as a composer after 43 years. This job immediately after high school enabled Rufus to experience first hand the evolution of the printing press from the letter press to the modern offset press of today. He was a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church, former deacon, Sunday school teacher, assistant music director and choir member. He also served in the Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart and Philippines Campaign Medal.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Hubert, Cecil, George and Hugh Lee Clark; and sisters, Thelma Anthony and Desma Short.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Estelle Pruett Clark; sons, Rufus Clark Jr. and John Clark and wife, Phyliss, all of Shelby; sisters, Marie Wease of Kings Mountain and Inez Nanney and husband, Alfred, of Shelby; and grandchildren, Jason Clark, Seth Clark and Kelli Clark, all of Shelby.
The funeral is today at 11 a.m. at Patterson Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Fambrough officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Beuford Spicer
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Beuford Lee Spicer, 65, of 709 Woodside Drive, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at his home.
He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Willie N. and Lois Carson Spicer.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Bagwell Spicer. He was founder of T & W Textile Machinery Inc., in Clover, S.C., in 1972, where he was owner and operator. He was a member of Carson Memorial Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, Fairview Masonic Lodge No. 339 and White Plains Shrine Club in Kings Mountain.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Aiken Spicer of Kings Mountain; two sons, Tim Spicer and wife, Robin, and Eric Spicer and wife, Kimberly, all of Kings Mountain; a stepson, Craig Queen and wife, Kellie, of Middletown, Del.; two brothers, Lawrence Spicer and wife, Gaynell, and Claude Spicer and wife, Rose, all of Kings Mountain; a sister, Mae Edwards and husband, Maurice, of Gastonia; a brother-in-law, Danny Bagwell and wife, Ruth, of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Maegan Spicer, Stacey Spicer and Jared Spicer; and step-grandchildren, Blake Queen, Greyson Queen and Asheton Queen.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. John Sloan officiating.
Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

SHELBY — Mr. Lawrence Roy Chambers, 81, of 1101 N. Morgan St., died Monday, July 28, 2003, at Century Care of Shelby.
Born April 13, 1922, he was the son of the late Will and Lula Chambers of Cherokee County. He joined Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age. He retired from Margrace Mill in Kings Mountain.
He is survived by a special friend, Janette Parker of Kings Mountain; and one sister-in-law, Ida Chambers of Shelby.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at New Way Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Albert Perkins officiating.
Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Benjamin Brown Sr.
KINGS MOUNTAIN — A time to be born. Benjamin F. Brown Sr., of 113 N. Cansler St., was born on Jan. 29, 1926, in Kings Mountain, to the late Roy J. Brown and Gertrude Allison Brown.
A time to live. Benjamin “Buddy” Brown Sr., was a faithful member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He served as a trustee and a member of the adult choir until his decline in health. He was also a former member of Bynum Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church and was very active. Buddy was employed with Margrace Mill in Kings Mountain and retired from Eastco Hand Tool in Gastonia, in 1993. He graduated from Davidson High School in 1943.
A time to love. Benjamin “Buddy” Brown loved his family and life and often gave advice and words of wisdom to people of all ages. He had a warm smile and was true to his word. He was very independent and worked hard all his life. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many. He loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ into his life at an early age. He loved baseball and coached a Little League team for years. He was an inspiration of strength, had a strong will to live and loved his family, friends, special friends and his church.
A time to die. On Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain, Benjamin F. Brown Sr. answered the Master’s call and slept peacefully to his eternal rest.
A time to mourn. He is survived by his former wife, Emily C. Brown of New Haven, Conn. He leaves to cherish many fond and loving memories: two sons, Benjamin Franklin Brown Jr. of Kings Mountain and Terry Leroy Brown of Charlotte; four daughters, Janice Hughes of Edison, N.J., Janet McCutchen of West Haven, Conn., Carolyn McKinney of Shelby and Tobby Gibson of Oxnard, Calif.; two sons-in-law, Sam McKinney of Shelby and Leroy Gibson of Oxnard, Calif.; one brother, Roscoe Brown of New York City; four sisters, Zenobia Purnell, Knox Bess and Thomasina Brown of New York City and Virginia Jackson of Atlanta; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and many very special friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy J. Brown; mother, Gertrude Allison Brown, and stepmother, Cannie Gordon Brown; two brothers, Curtis and Robert Brown; and one sister, Ollie Brown.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church located on Linwood Road in Gastonia, with the Rev. Fred Barnes officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service and at other times at the home of his son, Benjamin F. Brown Jr. and his daughter, Carolyn McKinney.
