FOREST CITY — Mr. Jimmy Carl Randall, 69, of 1671 Doggett Road, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at the VA Medical Center in Asheville.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Prendergrast officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harrelson Funeral Home.

Eugene

Phillips Sr.

SHELBY — Mr. Eugene J. P. Phillips Sr., 87, of Century Care, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

The family will meet at the home of his son, Mr. J.P. “Jack” Phillips Jr., 2950 Cliffside Road, Shelby.

Genesis Funeral Service and Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Dollie Dalton

FOREST CITY — Mrs. Dollie Liverette Dalton, 99, died Monday, June 23, 2003.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Harrelson Funeral Home.

Lettie Jo Martin

FALLSTON — Mrs. Lettie Jo Cummings Martin, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. She resided at 4302 Fallston Road and was 68 years old.

A native of Guilford County, she was born Feb. 16, 1935. She was a retired insurance agent at James L. Cummings Insurance. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church for 50 years, a member of the United Methodist Women, a Sunday school teacher, former church secretary, a member of the Emmanual Emmaus Community and a member of the Community Bible Study.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirby Dean Martin and her parents, James Albert and Grace Haynes Bowling Cummings.

She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Rick and Chris Martin and Steve and Penny Martin all of Fallston; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Andy Boggs of Fallston; a brother, James L. “Jim” Cummings of Calabash; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Teresa Martin Leonhardt and Leon Leonhardt of Fallston; seven grandchildren, Brandi Martin, Travis Martin, Kellie Martin, Kevin Martin, Matthew Martin, Drew Boggs and Austin Boggs and a great-grandchild, Dylan Martin.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church with the Rev. H. L. Talbert officiating.

The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home. A guest registry is available online at www.stameyfuneralhome.com.

John Homesley

CHERRYVILLE — Mr. John Wade Homesley, 47, of 3824 Tryon Courthouse Road, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at the VA Hospital in Durham.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Laura L. Lumpton officiating.

Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the funeral home.

Johnie Roten

WEST JEFFERSON — Mr. Johnie Roten, 78, of West Jefferson, died Friday, June 20, 2003.

Local survivors include his daughter, Eugenia and Wayne Price of Casar and grandchildren, Amy Luper of Raleigh and Steven Price of Boiling Springs.

The family will receive friends from today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home, 2005 Mount Jefferson Road in West Jefferson.

A worship service will follow at 7:30 p.m.

The burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites.

Memorials may be made to Big Laurel Baptist Church, c/o Ruth Roten, 1467 North Flatwoods Road, Creston, NC 28615. Flowers will also be appreciated.

Selma Crawley

SHELBY — Mrs. Selma Branton Crawley, 92, of 855 W. Marion St., Shelby, died Friday, June 20, 2003 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born in Cleveland County on November 3, 1910, Mrs. Crawley was a homemaker and taught Sunday School in Lattimore in the 1930s. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Past Matron Club of the Eastern Star, member of Ex Libris Book Club, the Dogwood Garden Club, Youth Over 50 Club at Central United Methodist Church, W.M.U., and the Golden Links Sunday School Class. She enjoyed dining out with many friends on a weekly basis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Wytaman Crawley; her parents, Edward Everette and Theda Allen Branton; her brother, Edward Branton; and three sisters, Clevie Roberts, Ola Dedmon and Letha Weathers.

She is survived by her son, Donald W. Crawley of Belmont; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Crawley and Bill L. Beattie of Shelby; and three grandchildren, Christopher Crawley, Jonathan Crawley and Channing Crawley.

The funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Shelby with Dr. Joseph Reeves officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 200 E. Marion St., Shelby, NC, 28150 or to the organization of the donor’s choice.

Patricia Boswell

SHELBY — Mrs. Patricia Ruth Boswell, 72, of 1207 Woodhill Dr., Shelby, died Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born October 24, 1930, Mrs. Boswell was a native of Berwyn, Ill. She was a homemaker and a member of Christopher Road Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren J. and Ruth Toucha Ryan; and a son, Donald Bruce Boswell.

She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Boswell of the home; a son, Steven Boswell of Littleton, Colo., a son and daughter-in-law, Eric William and Diana Boswell of Shelby; a sister, Carol Wegman of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Cissy, Steven Jr., Ericka and Daniel; and one great-granddaughter, Alyssa.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Christopher Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Mickey Heyward officiating. Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

The family will receive Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Family headquarters will be at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to Christopher Road Baptist Church, 420 Christopher Road, Shelby, NC 28152.

Donald Spears

CLIFFSIDE — Mr. Donald Ralph Spears, 46, of 154 Jennie Lane died Friday, June 20, 2003, at his residence.

Arrangements will be announced by McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

Rashan Malik Shariff

SHELBY — Mr. Rashan Malik Shariff, formerly Mr. James “June” Reed Jr., 58, of 1004 Gum St., formerly of 26 Bancroft Lane, Willingboro, N.J., died Monday, June 16, 2003, at 1829 E. Marion St., Shelby, Marion Ridge Apartments, No. 1302.

The memorial service was held Saturday, June 21, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Woody’s Funeral Home in New Jersey.

Genesis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert ‘Buss’ Beatty

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Robert Earl “Buss” Beatty, 77, of 409 Cherokee St., Kings Mountain, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be Monday at 4 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene in Kings Mountain, with the Rev. Michael Daughirty officiating.

Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home, and other times at the home of a daughter, Melissa Fannin, 813 Hillside Drive, Kings Mountain.

Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery of Kings Mountain. Memorials may be made out to Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain.

Harris Funeral Home of Kings Mountain is in charge of the arrangements.

Johnie Roten

WEST JEFFERSON, — Mr. Johnie Roten, 78, of West Jefferson, died Friday, June 20 2003.

Local survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Eugenia and Wayne Price of Casar; and grandchildren Amy Luper of Raleigh and Steven Price of Boiling Springs.

BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Columbus C. Moorhead, 82, of 302 Holly Grove Road, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at home.

A celebration of life service will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Rowe officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 at Holly Grove Catering.
