BOSTIC — Mrs. Nixie Waters, 87, died Friday, April 18, 2003, at her home.
A graveside service will be today at 4 p.m. in Sandy Level Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service at Sandy Level Baptist Church.

Vera Cook
GAFFNEY, S.C. — Mrs. Vera Jean Cook, 64, of 2815 Old Georgia Highway, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Revs. Jim Miller and Jack Bratton officiating.
Burial will follow in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends Friday at White Columns-Gaffney Funeral Service and at other times at the home.

James Henson
FOREST CITY — Mr. James H. “Shorty” Henson, 65, of 1077 W. Main St., died Friday, April 18, 2003, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Danieltown Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Pennington officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harrelson Funeral Home of Caroleen.
Ruby Williams
ASHEVILLE — Mrs. Ruby Elizabeth Brown Williams, 77, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Mountain Area Hospice.
She was born in Forest City and was a daughter of the late Emma Williams Heller. Mrs. Williams was raised by Thomas and Myrtle Hicks Brown. She was a member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence, where she served with the Altar Society and Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Eucharist Minister and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court No. 412. She was also a volunteer at Mountain Area Hospice.
Those left to cherish her beautiful memory include her husband, Franklin; two daughters, Norma Jean Patterson of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Gail J. Andrews of Franklin, Va.; one sister, Mattie Houseal of Little Mountain, S.C.; seven grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Basilica of St. Lawrence with Father Wilbert Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns in Shelby. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Ray & Allen Funeral Service. The family will be at 253 S. French Broad Ave.
Samuel Baccus
LAWNDALE — Mr. Samuel Moses Baccus, 74, of 215 Philadelphia School Road, died Friday, April 18, 2003, at home.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Webb First Baptist Church in Ellenboro with the Rev. Michael Moore officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and at the home of his nephew, Alvin Green at 252 Webb Church Road, Ellenboro.
Burial will follow in Freeman Cemetery on Freeman Road in Bostic.

Johnny Baccus
SHELBY — Mr. Johnny Baccus, 45, of 420 Miles Road, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Webb First Baptist Church in Ellenboro with the Rev. Michael Moore officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and other times at the home of his daughter, Dykisher L. Logan of 112 McDowell St., Shelby.
Burial will follow in Freeman Cemetery on Freeman Road, Bostic.

Martha Proctor
SHELBY — Mrs. Martha Roberts Mowery Proctor, 75, of 3018 Vernell Lane, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late James Frank Roberts and Rachael Allison Roberts. She retired from Fiber Industries and was a homemaker. She attended Christ Covenant Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Mowery.
She is survived by her second husband, Rodger Proctor of the home; five sons and their wives, Vince and Belinda Mowery, Jim and Cynthia Mowery, Dale and Pat Mowery of Chapel Hill, Tommy Mowery and Jimmy Proctor; five daughters and their husbands, Ray and Mary Crocker, Donald Lee and Cathy Poston, Bill and Cathie Norvell of Westminster, Md., Mark and Debbie Huffman and Claire Nell Mowery Owens; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilue Elam.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with Dr. Jim Toole officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

Murrel Lee
SHELBY — Mr. Murrel D. Lee, 88, of 811 Waters St., died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Hospice of Cleveland County.
Born May 28, 1915, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Luss E. Lee and Josaphine Duncan Lee. He retired from the Civil Service Department of the Army Electronic Engineers.
Mr. Lee was active in Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of trustees for more than four years. He was president of the Fred Rollins Sunday School Class for several years. He was very active in Piedmont Alumni Association and served as president. He did not miss a meeting in 20 years.
He served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific area for more than three years. He received an American Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Defense Medal, World War II Victory Medal and three Bronze Stars.
He was technical director of the electronic directorate of the Test and Evaluation Command Headquarters at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., for 14 years. Prior to this assignment, he had worked as a test engineer with the Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base for 10 years. He retired in August 1977 with 32 years of federal service.
After retirement, he was a realtor with Wilson Real Estate for 10 years. He was a member of the Masons for more than 50 years and was a member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge No. 744.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Lee of Shelby; a daughter and her husband, Debra Lee Waibel and William of De Soto, Texas; a sister, Hazel Lee Ellis of Shelby; two granddaughters, Beth Anne Waibel and Morgan Waibel, both of De Soto, Texas; a stepgrandson, Tim Waibel of Havre de Grace, Md.; and two stepgranddaughters, Vickie Waibel and Erica Steelman, both of Havre de Grace, Md.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Gervase Hitch officiating. Burial will be in Palm Tree United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Lafayette Street United Methodist Church.
‘Granny’ Anderson
SHELBY — Mrs. Virginia D. “Granny” Anderson, 76, of 839 McSwain Road, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at home.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain David Fambrough and the Rev. Michael Stephens officiating.
The family received friends Thursday at the home.
Marilea Martin
HUNTERSVILLE — Mrs. Marilea Bloomer Martin, 55, of 8734 Taunton Drive, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at home.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Charlotte.

Edward Lee Gill
SHELBY — Mr. Edward Lee Gill, 75, of 415 Millsap Road, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Otis Gill and the late Mary Miller Johnson and a native of Cleveland County.
He was a member of Light Oak Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board, as a trustee and was “Father of the Church.” He retired from Carter Chevrolet. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Lockhart Gill; his daughter, Sheila Elaine Farmer; and two sisters, Catherine and Lillie Mae Johnson.
He leaves to cherish fond memories one son, Sherwood Gill (Sarah) of Shelby; two daughters, Linda Grier of Temple Hills, Md. and Avery Patterson (Andrew) of Suitland, Md.; one other daughter-in-law, Margaret McGill; seven grandchildren, three of whom he reared, Cassandra Smith, Bryant Wright of Shelby and Freddie Farmer, Jr. of Portsmouth, Va.; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Lackhart of Florence, S.C. and Willie Mae Lloyd of Huntersville.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Light Oak Baptist Church. The Rev. W.D. Wray will officiate. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4 p.m. at the church on Saturday.
