Kathleen Hamrick
LATTIMORE — Mrs. Kathleen Frances Wimberly Hamrick 79, of 104 Stockton St., died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Cleveland Pines Care Center in Shelby.
Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Edgar Jackson and Willie Frances Sullivan Wimberly. She was raised in Columbia, S.C., and attended the University of South Carolina. She did secretarial work for Jeff Hunt Road Machinery Co., and several churches and insurance firms. She belonged to Bethel Baptist Church of Ellenboro.
She was a loving wife and homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert C. and Edgar J. Wimberly Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Howard L. Hamrick of the home; a sister, Mary Louise Clark of Blythewood, S.C.; a nephew and his wife, Edgar Jackson III and Dorothy Wimberly of Fairfax, Va.; two nieces, Lisa W. Mizell and her husband, Barry, of Holly Hill, S.C., and Susan L. Wimberly of Charleston, S.C.; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Jackson officiating.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service.

Mattie Summey
ASHEVILLE — Miss Mattie Lou Summey, 88, of Brooks Howell Home, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Crowe’s Mortuary and Chapel in Rutherfordton.
Peggy Brooks
HICKORY — Mrs. Peggy Russ Brooks, 64, of Kool Park Road, N.E., died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at her residence.
Born Aug. 14, 1938, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late M.G. and Pearlie Maie Miller Russ. She was employed by Southern Hosiery.
She is survived by two sons, Bryan E. Brooks and friend, Kathy Seagle, and Michael A. Brooks and wife, April, all of Hickory; two granddaughters, Bryanna Brooks and Tiffney Brooks, both of Hickory; two grandsons, Jeffrey Brooks and wife, Jessica, and Corey Brooks, all of Hickory; two brothers, Marvin Russ and Vernon Russ, both of Shelby; two sisters, Roxie Sisk of Ridgeway, S.C., and Judy Lowe of Gastonia; and other family members, Donald and Barbara Brooks of Hickory, Mary and Bob McClain of Concord, Sharon and Jackie Cantrell of Shelby, Sylvia Langston of Greensboro, Tina McCray of Connelly Springs and Sherry Brooks of Claremont.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bud Ellis officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Harvey Short
LAWNDALE — Mr. Harvey Ray Short, 74, of 236 Ankle Road, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born March 28, 1928, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Zeno Guy Short and Lula Estelle Lingerfelt Short. He retired from furniture manufacturing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Short; three brothers, Ralph, Bill and Clyde Short; and two sisters, Dorothy Sigmon and Shirley Swink.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Davis Short of Lawndale; two sons, Bobby Short of Lawndale and Steve Short of Fairfax, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Larry Hoppes of Lawndale; a brother, Ronald Short of Lawndale; a sister, Mary Helen Hudson of Morganton; three grandchildren, Cindy Hoppes, Kisha Short and Cory Short; and two great-grandchildren, Anna Bumgardner and Brittany Smith.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Darrin Hughes officiating.
Burial will be in Reeps Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the funeral home.
Omarion Early
SHERRILLS FORD — Omarion Early, the infant son of Talisha Early and Keon Fuller, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A graveside service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.

Howard Broadwater
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Howard M. Broadwater, 82, of 500 Hawthorne Road, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at his home.
He was born in Scott County, Va., and was a son of the late John David and Ethel Minnich Broadwater. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth “Libby” Broadwater. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Clinton Broadwater and James Broadwater; and a sister, Sarah Broadwater. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kings Mountain. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech, class of 1942. He was a longtime employee of Foote Mineral Co., Kings Mountain. He also served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater as 1st lieutenant serving with the 357th AAA Search Light Battalion.
He is survived by two daughters, Ann Broadwater Jones and husband, Billie W., of South Windsor, Conn., and Katherine Broadwater Lynskey and husband, Donald, of Gastonia; two sisters, Nannie Bellamy of Big Stone Gap, Va., and Dorothy Painter and husband, Bill, of Fort Defiance, Va.; five grandchildren, Geoffrey Howard Jones and wife, Erika, of Tolland, Conn., Brian Hamrick Jones and wife, Amanda Burnett, of Chesterfield, Va., Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Lynskey, of Gastonia, Michael Howard Lynskey of St. Paul, Minn., and Gregory Paul Lynskey of Alexandria, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah Jones and Benjamin Jones.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lee Thomas officiating.
Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

SHELBY — Ms. Elouise Gist, 70, of 102 Oates Drive, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. William Thompson officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.

CLIFFSIDE — Caleb Trace Pearson, infant son of Ronnie Dale and Cori Tate Pearson, of 179 Old Field Road, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Mission St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ernie Cole officiating.
Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.

SHELBY — Ms. Eliza Littlejohn, 68, of 114 E. Warren St., died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

FOREST CITY — Mr. George Clinton Kimbrell, 63, of 196 Pine St., died Monday, March 31, 2003, at his home.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the Revs. Bob Philbeck and Boyce Gregory officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Annie Messer
CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Annie Mae Bice Messer, 85, resident of Century Care Nursing Home, formerly of Marion and Kings Mountain, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, in Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Born in Spartanburg, S.C., to the late Pyck B. Bice and Nobie Henderson Bice, she was a homemaker and the wife of the late Arthur D. Messer. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Imogene Curtis.
Surviving are four daughters, Jacqueline Hoyle Scism of Oak Island, Betti Hoyle Bumgardner and husband, Bill Bumgardner, of Clyde, Diana Hoyle Hamrick and husband, the Rev. James Hamrick, of Kings Mountain, and Juanita Hoyle Fleming and husband, Dean Fleming, of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Janie Lou Morgan of Stanley and Joyce Dellinger of Cherryville; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held today at 4 p.m. in McDowell Memorial Park with the Rev. James Hamrick and Dean Fleming of Kings Mountain and Bill Bumgardner of Clyde officiating.
A memorial service will be held at 922 Battleground Ave., Kings Mountain, on Sunday at 4 p.m. for family and friends.
