Ruth Hardy
CINCINNATI — Mrs. Ruth Wray Hardy, 78, of 35 Ridgeway, departed this life on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the University of Cincinnati Hospital in Cincinnati.
Born in Lawndale, and formerly of Shelby, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Mary Wray.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Hardy; five brothers; and four sisters.
She leaves to cherish fond memories two sons, Curtis Hardy and Floyd Hardy, both of Cincinnati; three daughters, Brenda Hardy-Curtis and Elaine Hardy of Cincinnati; three daughters, Brenda Hardy-Curtis and Elaine Hardy of Cincinnati and Julie Hardy of Atlanta; a brother, Lloyd Wray of Shelby; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Willie Mae Wray and Bettye Sue and Charles Merritt of Shelby and Gladys Wray of Hempstead, N.Y.; and 13 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at noon in the chapel of Donald and Stewart Funeral Home, Paddock at Reading Road, Cincinnati.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Mildred Moore
FOREST CITY — Mrs. Mildred Madaline Tucker Moore, 88, of 156 U.S. 221A., died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Willow Ridge Nursing Center.
Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

STANLEY — Mr. Derrick Jerrod Easter, 21, of 6970 Old Plank Road, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Lincoln Medical Center
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Gold Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Franklin E. Lowery officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service. The family will be at the home of Carl and Lisa Lowery Fraizer, 1685 Hines Circle Road, Stanley.

Era Moore
SHELBY — Mrs. Era Moore, 64, of 1548 Beams Drive, ended this stage of life to live eternally with God Jan. 30, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 24, 1938, daughter of the late Robert Sr. and Docia Nance Hopper in Cleveland County. She was a member at Mount Calvary Baptist Church for many years and later joined Ellis Chapel Baptist Church in 1997, where she served as Women’s Day Program Chairperson, Pastor’s Aid President as well as chair and coordinator for Pastor’s Anniversary Program. She enjoyed arranging flowers for the church, family and friends. Era filled her home with flowers and much love where everyone was welcome.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Hopper Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Howard M. Moore Sr.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Howard M. Moore Jr. of Easton, Md., and Stan and and Melissa Moore of Gastonia; three daughters and a son-in-law, Crystal Moore of Shelby, Shelia Moore-Miller of Atlanta and Marcia Moore-Jones and Marty Jones of Gastonia; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Foster of Boston and Anita and Robert Glover of Charlotte; a brother and sister-in-law, Van and Georgia Hopper; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and close family friends.
The funeral will be Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter B. Ellis officiating.
Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Rueben Black
SHELBY — Mr. Rueben Black, 72, of 864 E. Zion Church Road, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.
He was born April 18, 1930, in Cleveland County. He was the son of the late Tom Doberson and the late Lucy Black.
He was educated at Cleveland School and was a veteran of the Army. He was retired from Dunhill Department Store of New York, N.Y. He was affiliated with Roberts Tabernacle Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanor Lavonne Logan Lee; and a brother, Billie Black Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Gennie Earl Black of the home; a daughter, Valarie Finney of Philadelphia; a sister, Willie Black Beasley of Shelby; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Theodore and Mary Frances Black, Thurman and Patricia Black, all of Shelby, and Bessie Black of Thomasville; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives of friends.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Roberts Tabernacle Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with Pastor Carolyn Briggs officiating.
Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Alma Lancaster
BOSTIC — Mrs. Alma Frances Sisk Lancaster, 82, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 p.m at Washburn and Dorsey Funeral Home.
Bessie Lee Coleman
SHELBY — Mrs. Bessie Lee Allen Coleman, 54, of 705 Live Oak St., died Jan. 31, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The family will meet at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Roscoe Degree at 1020 Earl Road, Shelby.

SHELBY — Mr. Thomas “T.C.” Hamilton, 83, of 1712 Carson Road, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at his residence.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger W. Fuller officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

John Dellinger
CHERRYVILLE — Mr. John Frank Dellinger, 79, of 2157 Bess Chapel Church Road, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Brian Center in Lincolnton.
Born March 13, 1923, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late George and Gracie Conner Dellinger. He served four years in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Retired, he worked as a machinist for Herman Reeves of Lowell for 18 years and Coleman Cocker in Ranlo for 25 years. He belonged to Bess Chapel United Methodist Church of Cherryville and the Gastonia Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Dellinger.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wilma Miller Dellinger of the home; a son and his wife, John William and Katie Dellinger, and a daughter and her husband, Janet D. and Robert Eaker, all of Cherryville; a sister, Faye Jones of Forest city; and two grandchildren, Sandy Dellinger and Mark Eaker and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Cherryville.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Randi Godfrey officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Janet Eaker, 1730 Bess Chapel Church Road, Cherryville.

LINCOLNTON — Mrs. Sedulia Brooks Matthews, 100, of 515 S. Generals Blvd., died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Brian Center in Lincolnton.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, with the Revs. Michael Hill and Clement Morris Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Hollybrook Cemetery.

BOONE — Mr. Joseph Earl Randall, 92, formerly of Rutherford County, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Avante of Concord.
The graveside funeral will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Dr. Norman Hubbard officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen.
Russell Gilreath
SHELBY — Mr. Russell Gilreath, 77, of 900 E. Main St., died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County May 23, 1925, he was the son of the late William Oscar and Vertie Ester Wyatt Gilreath. He retired as department manager for Threads Inc., formerly Dixie Yarn. He belonged to Zoar Baptist Church and was a member of Fidelis Sunday School Class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nadine Mauney.
He is survived by his wife, Jane McSwain Gilreath of the home; a son, Rusty Gilreath of Indian Trail; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Tamra Gilreath of Fuquay-Varina; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Robert Burney of Apex; a sister and brothers-in-law, Geraldine and Kenneth Hicks of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Sarah Burney, Will Gilreath, Catherine Gilreath and Tyler Gilreath; and one stepgrandchild, Alex Eddy.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Zoar Baptist Church, with Dr. Marvin Gobble and the Rev. David Costner officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
