John Junior Morrison age 74 of 129 Vinson Rd. Statesville died Tuesday July 10, 2007 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born May 2, 1933 in Iredell County son of the late John Lewis Morrison and Carrie Isenhour Morrison. He was a retired textile worker and was a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Survivors include his wife Martha “Patsy” Bell Morrison of the home, two sons Norman Eugene Morrison and wife Robin of Newton, Tony Lee Morrison and wife Vickie of Statesville, two daughters Jeanette Lapish and husband Tommy of Statesville, Linda Goforth and husband Dale of Statesville, three brothers Lewis Morrison and wife Jo of Orange Park Florida, Donald Morrison and wife Margie of Sylva NC, Steve Morrison and wife Jane of Statesville, three sisters Betty Winecoff and husband Jim of Mooresville, Sue Compton of Troutman, Cynthia Guy of Stony Point, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 3:00PM at Crestview Baptist Church with the Rev. Elvert Neal and Rev. Roy Pierce officiating. Eloise Rhyne Alexander Wilson 84, of Stony Point passed away July 4, 2007 at Autumn Care Statesville. She was born October 9, 1922 in Stony Point to the late Joseph Reid Rhyne and Beulah Combs Rhyne. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Elk Shoals ARP Church and retired from Beauty Maid Mills in 1987. In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Lewis Quinton Alexander Sr., in 1958 and by her second husband Rowe Wilson in 1995. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lee Palmer, and husband Jerry of Taylorsville, her son Lewis Alexander Jr., and wife Janet of Stony Point, two granddaughters Carol P. Fox and husband Ricky, Victoria Alexander, two grandsons Todd Palmer and wife Carla, Thomas Alexander, two great-grandsons Christopher and Brennan Fox, two great-granddaughters Rachel and Livia Palmer, four brothers Howard Rhyne of Stony Point, William Lee Rhyne and David Rhyne of Statesville, Wade Rhyne of Mooresville, her aunt Eunice “Polly” Combs Dyson. She is also survived by a special care giver Mildred Parks. Joan Anderson Phillips age 74 of 1040 Brush Mt. Rd. Lenoir went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 27, 2007 at her daughter's home after a battle with cancer. She was born May 13, 1933 in Caldwell County daughter of the late Dayton Anderson and Lula Jane “Janie” Fox Whitener Goble Anderson. She was a retired textile worker and was a member of Oxford Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Jordan S. Phillips, one son Randy Phillips, three sisters Doris Hartley, Irene Robinette, Dean Brown, mother in law Flara Main Phillips father in law Newton Amos Phillips. Jerry Ray Harris age 68 of 195 North Side Dr. Hiddenite, died Tuesday 10-9-07 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, he was born December 21, 1938 in Iredell County, he was the son of the late Robert Udell Harris and Rosie Iola Summers Harris, he was a textile worker and of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents he is preceeded in death by two brothers William D. Harris and R. Paul Harris and four sisters Mary DeAnna Harris, Patty Jean Harris, Dorothy H. Bost, and Mabel H. Robert "Bob" Edward Mash of Hiddenite, passed away Tuesday September 18, 2007, at Davis Regional Medical Center, after a lengthy period of declining health. Born on September 12, 1931, in Ashe County, he was son of the late Herman H. Mash and Viola Miller Mash. Mr. Mash was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired truck driver. He was employed with Southern Paper Box for a number of years and was also an Alexander County Deputy Sheriff for a short period of time. After retirement, he enjoyed farming.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister Willa Jean Mash, one brother James C. Terry Lee Lamb, 42, of 277 Emerald Lane, Hiddenite, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at his home. He was born on December 11, 1965, in Buchanan, Virginia, to the late Henry Lamb and Cleo Charles Spencer. He was employed by Tammy Lamb Cleaning Service. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. Reverend Franklin D. Roosevelt “Arnold” Lafon, 72, of 36 North Center Street, Taylorsville, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 25, 1935, in Narrows, Virginia, to the late Robert Cloyd Lafon and Gracie Lou Mays Lafon Woodring. He was a minister. He also was a retired exterminator, furniture worker and mechanic. He was a member of Jesus Life Worship Center of Moravian Falls. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred Lafon and James Caudill; one son-in-law, George Harvey Connolly Jr. He is survived by his spouse, Lillian Daniels Lafon of the home; three sons, Rev. Robert Lafon and wife Robin, Rev. Danny Lafon and wife Cindy and Rev. Jessie Paul Walker, age 79, of 3164 Cheatham Ford Rd., Hiddenite, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Gordon’s Hospice House in Statesville. He had courageously battled a very long illness. He was born August 5, 1928 in Alexander County to the late William Jefferson Walker and Alda Ernie Smith Walker. Mr. Walker served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Elokomin. He was a lifetime member of both the VFW and the DAV. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Statesville, N.C. He worked in lumber and the furniture industry until his retirement. His hobby was playing Rook, and until the progression of his illness, he hosted weekly rook games at his home. He was loved by his family and friends, and knew no stranger nor enemy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Albert C. Walker, and Larry D. Walker, and a daughter, Patricia Walker; nine brothers, Leslie Clyde Walker, William Fred Walker, Robert Earl Walker, Charlie Ray Walker, James Conley Walker, Luther LeRoy Walker, Arthur Walker, Perry Walker and Roby Willard Walker; one sister, Ruby Warren; one grandchild Cathy Clarkson Baker. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Mary Carrigan Walker; They shared a blended family of which he is survived by sons: Billy W. Walker of Hiddenite; Perry Allen Walker and wife May, of Love Valley; Roger O. Walker and wife, Janice, of Statesville, and daughters, Judy Walker Southers and husband, Jerry of Hiddenite; Carolyn Anderson and husband, Jim, of Troutman, Susan Walker Leipsner and husband, Bob, of Marion, and Teresa Walker of Taylorsville; two brothers, Jerry Mack Walker of Statesville and Allen Clifford Walker and wife Mary Sue of China Grove; Grandchildren: Amanda Winters, Amy Jones, Angela Jolly, April Owens, Brigette Walker, Christopher Smith, Curtis White, Jennifer Walker, Jonathon Walker, Lee Robinette, Lewis Clarkson, Lisa Dollar, Sarah Woodring, Rachel Clarkson, Rita Rodin, Robert Clarkson, Rose Mary Davis, Wesley Walker, and more than 25 Great-Grandchildren, along with numerous nephews and nieces. Jane Parks Jackson, 65, of 1685 Johnny Martin Lane, Stony Point, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born on June 30, 1942, in Iredell County, to the late Woodrow Parks and Christine Johnson Parks. She was a homemaker. She attended Abilene Church of Christ. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Randall Jackson Sr. and one brother Woodrow Parks Jr. She is survived by one son, Randall Jackson Jr. of Defuniak Spring, Florida; three daughters, Donna Prevette of Stony Point, Margie Laney of Troutman and Tammy Prichard of Hiddenite; one sister, Elaine Edwards of Bunnell, Florida; eight grandchildren: Casey, Kenny, Jesse, Tasha, David, Kala, Jeremy and Kevin and six great grandchildren: Ashley, Tyler, Addy, Dylan, Aidan and Molly. Lois Margie Head Nicholson, 72, of 158 Nicholson Rd., Hiddenite, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Carolina Medical Center. She was born on April 1, 1935, in Alexander County, to the late William Burpee Head and Lola Jane Robertson Head. She retired from textile work and worked as a Foster Grandparent “Granny” for the Head Start Program in Taylorsville. Her joy in life was her grandchildren, her love for working with children, her church and family. She was a faithful member of Friendly Cha pel Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 10,000. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Junior Vance Nicholson; one brother Frank Head and one sister Marie Moore. She is survived by one son, David “Pickles” Nicholson and his wife Anita of Stony Point; two daughters, Judy Marzean and husband David of Hiddenite, and Jane Carson and husband Kelly of Hiddenite; one brother, Haskell Head and wife Eula of Hiddenite; Three grandchildren: Victoria Marzean, David Marzean and Freddie Moose. Avis Alexander Pope, 88, of Stony Point, passed away Friday April 4, 2008, at her residence. She was born on October 17, 1919, in Alexander County, to the late Ernest and Allie Sherrill Alexander. She was a retired supervisor at Uniglass Industries and a member of New Sterling ARP Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Hall Bryson Pope; siblings: Annielou Caudill, Veta Tucker, Dorsa Johnson, Troy Alexander and Eva Prichard. She is survived by her son Danny Pope and wife Chris of Stony Point; a grandson Bryan Pope of Stony Point; a granddaughter, Micki Pope Howard and her husband Wesley of Denver; great grandchildren: Lauren Elizabeth and Landon Alexander Howard of Denver; and a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Lindsey Stikeleather; and a sister-in-law Billie Alexander . Judy Doris Alexander, formerly of Kings Grant Court, 495 Signal Hill Drive, died April 4, 2008, at the Gordon Hospice House after an extended illness. She was born November 6, 1942, to the late K.C. and Nettie Ingram Alexander. She was a graduate of Stony Point High School and attended Mitchell College. Prior to her disability, she was employed by Home Credit Company. She was a devoted member of Stony Point Baptist Church. Over the years, Judy enjoyed growing African violets, reading books on tape, visiting with friends, and learning to paint with watercolor from friend Muriel Travis. Those who knew Judy will remember her as a strong willed, courageous woman who loved sharing stories and could always make you smile. Memories of her will always be in the hearts of those she touched. A loving sister and aunt, she was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Raymond E. Milstead and George L. Johnson. Survivors include two brothers, Jim (Nancy) Alexander of Knoxville, Tenn., and Tommy (Jo) Alexander of Mooresville; three sisters Nancy Milstead, Shirley Johnson, and Peggy (Bill) Brendle, all of Statesville; three nieces, Paige Fox of Statesville, Margaret McHugh of San Francisco, Calif., and Anna Huff of Winston-Salem; five nephews, Ron Alexander of Knoxville, Tenn., Tim Alexander of Statesville, Joel Milstead of Mooresville, Michael Milstead of Raleigh, and Ligon Johnson of San Francisco, Calif.; nine great-nieces and nephews, Beau Alexander, Bryan and Kristin Alexander, Kristen and R. Michael Milstead, Noah and Nicholas Fox, Finn McHugh, and Will Milstead. Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, April 6, with the Rev. Greg Barefoot and Rev. Phil Addison officiating. Charles Burette Burgess, 78, of Sherrills Ford, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.. He was born on Aug. 14, 1929, in Alexander County, to the late Dwight Burgess and Cecil Hammer Burgess. He was a retired truck driver and served in the US Army during the Korean War. Mr. Burgess was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant son.. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Williams Burgess of the home; three sons: Marty Joe Burgess of Sherrills Ford, Allan Burgess of Terrell, Jack Burgess of Lincolnton; one daughter, Jill Burchette of Hiddenite; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Sylvia Jane Galliher Fox, 54, of 220 Loggerhead Rd, Statesville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her loving family Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 7871 Raynard St, Sherrills Ford. She was born on August.25, 1953, in Iredell County, to the late Mack Galliher and Ina Myers Galliher of Harmony. She was a homemaker and a member of Harmony Baptist Church. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by four brothers: Ray Lee Johnson, Commie Lee “Tommy” Johnson Jr, Glenn Galliher and Dwight Galliher; one sister Gladys Harris. She is survived by her husband Joe Fox of the home; two sons, Christopher Golden Teague of Florida and Joseph Seaton Fox of Statesville; one daughter Heather Jo Fox of Statesville; one brother, Mack Dale Galliher of Hiddenite; two sisters, Emma Call of Hiddenite, Clara Jane Tomlin of Harmony; nine grandchildren; and a number of nephews nieces and cousins.. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 12:00pm noon at Harmony Baptist Church. Rev. Eddy Tutterow and Rev Darrell Williams will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Harmony cemetery. Samuel Hall Wiles, 77, of 18 Samilyn Lane, Stony Point, passed away Monday, Mar. 31, 2008, at his home, after a long illness with cancer. He was born on Sept. 9, 1930, in Alexander County, to the late Johnny Wiles and Pearl Munday Wiles. Sam enjoyed playing his guitar, singing and writing his own gospel songs. Working in his garden, canning, so he could give most of it away. This was a real pleasure to him. He was a retired construction worker, served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was of the Baptist faith. Sam formerly lived in Florida and moved back about 10 years ago to be near his children and family. In addition to her parents he was preceded in death by one great grandson, Sammy Lee Kiser; one son, Robert Lee Wiles Sr.; Five sisters: an infant Shirley Jean Wiles, Annie Gilreath, Lorene Payne, Edith West and Mary Ann Mitchell; four brothers: Ralph Munday, Bob Wiles, Emerson Wiles and Presley Wiles. He is survived by three daughters: Shirley Kiser and husband Sammy of Taylorsville, Connie Stillwell, Martha Norton and husband Howard all of Stony Point; one son Ricky Wiles of Taylorsville; one daughter-in-law Pam Wiles; Five grandchildren: Garland Ramsey, Jeffrey Kiser, Hope Johnson, Michelle Hardin, Robert Lee Wiles, Jr.; four great grandchildren: Samilyn, Gracie, Caleb, and William, and two on the way. He was very happy about that. One sister Geraldine Treadway and husband Roy of Taylorsville. Geraldine was wonderful and helpful. Ruth Hendricks Rowe, 89, of 211 Icard Ridge Rd,, Granite Falls, passed away unexpectedly, after a very short illness, Friday, Mar. 28, 2008, at Frye Regional Hospital. She was born on Aug. 18, 1918, in Norristown, PA, to the late William and Elise (Dettra) Hendricks. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church. She was a loving Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and will be greatly missed by all. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rowe; her son-in-law, Samuel Hertzler, and siblings: Clarence Hendricks, Ella Zeigler, Rebecca Silk, Florence Everson, Marion O’Brian, Betty Light and William Hicks. Loved ones left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Ruth Ann Hertzler of Bethlehem and Vivian Stipa of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters, Edna Kingston of Norristown, PA and Doris Detharidge of Philadelphia, PA; four grandsons, Keith and wife Sue Hertzler, Kevin and wife Myra Hertzler, Ken and wife Tonia Hertzler and Kyle and wife Tina Hertzler; Eight great grandchildren: Kimberly Ann, Kurtis Charles, Lauren Olivia, Tyler Matthew, Kendall William, Miranda Danielle, Amber Louise and Maura Anne and a number of nieces and nephews. Mary Louise Moretz Williamson, 77, of 615 Newbern Ave., Statesville, passed away Tuesday, Mar. 18, 2008, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 14, 1930, in Alexander County, to the late Jessie Frank Moretz and Mattie Mae Helton Moretz. She was a retired furniture worker and of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Jessie Millard Moretz; one sister, Minnie Moretz Mecimore and one grandson, Samuel David Fowler. She is survived by her husband Wilmer Williamson of the home; one son, Sam Fowler of Taylorsville; four daughters, Kathy Myers of Taylorsville, Wanda Chapman and Penny Styers both of Statesville and Gloria Brooks of Tennessee; one step son, Larry Williamson of Asheville; three brothers, Ray Moretz of Hickory, Carl Moretz and Danny Moretz both of Taylorsville; two sisters Faye Spelce of Taylorsville and Bertha Starnes of Bethlehem; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Harry H. Clark, 90, of 125 Northfield Road, Statesville, passed away Sunday, Mar. 16, 2008, at Davis Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 9, 1918, in Bronx, NY, to the late Hobart Clark and Martha Clarke Clark. He served as a Merchant Marine in WWII. and was a retired Chef . He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Maxine Loewenstein Clark; an infant son; two brothers, Hobart Clark and Charles Clark and one sister, Emily Schwarz. He is survived by two sons, Gary Clark and wife RaeMarie “Re” of Statesville; Craig Clark and wife Rose of Connecticut; one sister, Martha Quitoni of Florida; four grandchildren: Raelynn Clark, Eva Clark, Adelle Clark, Eric Clark and one great grandchild, Brianna Maxine Clark. Danielle Marie Green Rodriguez, 41, of 184 Emergency St, Taylorsville, passed away Friday, Mar. 7, 2008 at home. She was born on May 26, 1966, in Lynn, Mass. to the late Daniel Green and Judith Paquin Green of Swampscott, Mass. She was a 1985 Graduate of Chelsea High School. Danielle was a housewife, enjoyed cooking, reading, swimming and loved to be with the family. She did volunteer work with the Head Start Program both East Boston, Mass. and Nashua, N.H. She also did volunteer work at the Christian Crisis Center of Taylorsville and attended East Taylorsville Baptist Church.
To cherish her memories she leaves behind; her mother; two sons, Ricardo Morales and Carlos E. Rodriguez; her two daughters, Jenessa and Chanelly Rodriguez; her sister, Cheryl Green; two nephews, Daniel and Nicholas Green; one niece, Teresa Green. She was retired from the Alexander County Department of Social Services and was a member of South River United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Daniel Lambert; two sisters: Loretta Warren and Ethel Mayberry.
