Mr. Eddie James Silvers
Mr. Eddie James Silvers, 62, of Crestview Street in Morganton, died Monday, August 2, 2004 at his residence. He was born June 5, 1942 in Madison County to the late Dean Frank Silvers and Valerie Suttles Silvers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Larry Dean Silvers and a sister Mary Elizabeth Silvers.
Mr. Silvers had retired from R.E.M.C. in Morganton.
A loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother he is survived by: his wife of thirty nine years Emma Dean Silvers of the home; son Larry Dean Silvers and his wife Jeanne of Hudson; grandson Cody Allen Silvers; granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Silvers; brothers Clyde Silvers of Danridge Tennessee, Glen Silvers of Spruce Pine, Ronald Silvers of Glen Alpine, Perry Silvers of Morganton; sisters Shirley Plemmons of Morganton, Wilma Fisher of Marshall, Darlene Carswell of Morganton and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, August 5, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverend Dean Lavender officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 7 till 8:30 Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Mr. Ralph Leon Hardy
Mr. Ralph Leon Hardy, 43, of Nebo, went to be with the Lord, Friday, January 21, 2005 at The McDowell Hospital. Born July 2, 1961, in McDowell County, he was a son of Ralph Hamilton and Eula Virginia Hardy, of Nebo. Mr. Hardy was a member of the St. John’s A.M.E. Church and a former member of the Lion’s Club. His joy was music.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hardy also leaves behind to cherish his memory three brothers, Billy Hardy, Charles Hardy and Tony Hardy, all of Nebo;
Four sisters, Dorothy Carson, Linda Rutherford, and Irene Wilkerson, all of Nebo and Nora Hardy, of Maryland; he also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends & relatives.
Funeral Services for Mr. Hardy will be held 3:00PM, Thursday, January 27, 2005, at the St. John’s A.M.E. Church, Nebo, with the Reverends Arell Rutherford, Jr. and LeRoy Miller officiating. Interment will follow at the St. John’s A.M.E. Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the Services at the Church.
Mrs. Mindora Leonard Lutz
Mrs. Mindora Leonard Lutz, 61, of Carolina Shores, N.C. died Monday, June 23, 2003 at the New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington N.C. . Formerly of Morganton N. C. she was the daughter of the late Ben M. Leonard and Mary Eula Franklin Leonard.
Brothers Jack Leonard, Bob Franklin, Garland Franklin and a brother- n- law Jack Yohn,sister-n-law Betty Mae Franklin preceded her in death.
She is survived by: her husband Frederick “ Bill “ William Lutz of the home; son Marcus Griffin Lutz of the home; daughter Traci Griffin of Tulsa Oklahoma; granddaughter Ziggy Mindora Griffin of Tulsa Oklahoma ; brothers Ben M. Leonard Jr. and wife Karen of Cornileus, Jim Franklin and wife Hope of Morganton, Roy Leonard and wife Mavis of Glen Alpine, Charles Leonard and wife Frances of Nebo; sisters Diane Wiberg and husband Robert “Bob” of Ocean Isle Beach, Rachel Watkins and husband Dow of Santa Maria, California, Betty Lyle and husband Don of Spindale, Mable Walker and husband James Ray “Sie” of Morganton, Evelyn Yohn of Drexel, Mary Simpson and husband Dan of Nebo; sisters -n- laws Sue Franklin of Glen Alpine, Lillian Leonard of Morganton; brother -n- law James R. Lutz and wife Karen of Aspen Colorado; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the Calvin Heights Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Ralph Gouge officiating.
The family will receive friends following the services Saturday at the Calvin Heights Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will also receive friends 1 till 5 PM Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the home of Mrs. Lutz, Carolina Shores 3 West, Pine Court, Calabash N.C.

Mr. Dwayne Edward Ross
Mr. Dwayne Edward Ross, 45, of the Shuffler Road, Morganton died Thursday, November 6, 2003 at his residence after declining health of several years. Born October 11, 1958 he was the son of Martha Franklin Blanchard of Morganton and the late Floyd Henry Blanchard Jr..
Mr. Ross had worked for Suttles Surveying and Leviton in West Jefferson.
A loving son, brother and father he is survived by: daughter Paige Ross of the home, step son Jesse Profitt of Morganton, half brothers Brain Rich of Weaverville, Tracy Rich and Keith Tate both of Valdese; step-brothers Floyd Henry Blanchard III of Arizona, Arthur Blanchard of Rome N.Y.; sister Terri Taylor Davidson and husband David of Morganton, step-sister Isma Takkas of Cherry Point, Debbie Swinney, Billie Blanchard both of Rome N.Y.; nephews Timmy Norris, Tyler Norris and a Uncle Kenneth Benfield.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, November 9, 2003 at Kirksey Funeral in Morganton with the Reverend Ronnie Thompson officiating.

Mrs. Dorothy Mae “Mabel” Melton McGinnis
Mrs. Dorothy Mae “Mabel” Melton McGinnis, 87, of Old Fort, went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 19, 2004, at her residence.
Born May 16, 1916, in Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Perry William Melton and Katherine Kaldona Hudgins Melton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McGinnis was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Nelson McGinnis, and two sons, George McGinnis & Bruce Wane McGinnis. Mrs. McGinnis was a founding member and servant of the Moffitt Hill Church of God which is now the Living Waters Tabernacle. She dedicated her life to serving her children and to the Lord. She was a homemaker.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, three sons, Rex McGinnis and wife, Jody, of Old Fort, Ted McGinnis, of Asheville and Ralph McGinnis, of Old Fort; four daughters, Joyce McGinnis Anderson and husband, Van, of Marion, Frances McGinnis Taylor and husband, Randy, of Old Fort, Dianne McGinnis Godfrey and husband, Lattie, of Pleasant Gardens, and Ruby McGinnis, of Old Fort; one brother, Daniel Boone Melton, of GA; also surviving is a sister, Christine Melton McGinnis, of Brevard; a sister-in-law, Jeanette McGinnis Freeman and husband, Sam, of Old Fort; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. McGinnis will be held 2:00PM, Sunday, February 22, 2004, at the Living Waters Tabernacle with the Reverend Ken Massingill officiating and Mr. Max Hendley providing the Eulogy. Interment will follow at the Green Knob Cemetery. The McGinnis family will receive friends 6:00PM-8:00PM, Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home, Old Fort.

Mrs. Nora Lee Gwaltney Davis
Mrs. Nora Lee Gwaltney Davis, 80, of East Catawba Street, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 14, 2004 at her home. She was born July 25, 1923 in Burke County and was a daughter of the late Edgar Gwaltney and Rose Fox Gwaltney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Commander Dabney L. Davis, US Navy. Mrs. Davis served in the US Navy (WAVES) during WWII. and was a longtime member of Zion Baptist Church
She is survived by her children; son, Michael Davis and wife Judith, of Georgetown, SC; daughter, Diana Davis of Davis, CA.; brother, Edgar R. Gwaltney and wife, Gayle of Morganton; sisters, Pauline Daniels, Cora Sue Draughon and Nancy Ollis and husband, David, all of Morganton and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ralph May officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at a later date.

Wendy Michelle Tipton Townsend
Wendy Michelle Tipton Townsend, 25, of Marion, died, Saturday, January 1, 2005, at The McDowell Hospital. Born in Rutherford County, to Jack Tipton, Sr. and Margaret Clark Tipton both of Marion, she was a member of New Manna Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, surviving are her husband, Shawn Eric Townsend of the home; three sons, Tyler Shawn, Nathan Scott & Brandon Shane Townsend all of the home; one brother, Jackie Tipton, Jr. of Marion; best friend, Jody; and many friends and relatives.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM, Wednesday, January 5, 2005, in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion, with the Reverend Tony Shirley officiating. Interment will follow at the Arrowood Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00PM-7:00PM Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at the Funeral Home.

William Anderson Loftis, Jr.
William Anderson Loftis, Jr., age 74, of Old Fort, NC, died, June 25, 2003 at The McDowell Hospital.
Born in McDowell County to the late William “Buddy” Loftis and Lennie Mae Johnson Loftis, he was a lifelong resident of McDowell County and was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn E. Loftis of the home; one son, Jeffrey Elliott of Marion; two daughters, Sandra Grant of Old Fort and Tammy Self of Marion; three sisters, Lovena Odgen of Roanoke, VA, Thelma Johnson, and Frances Johnson, both of Marion; a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joel and Barbara Byrd of Nebo; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 27, from 7-9 PM at Kirksey Funeral Home- Marion. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 28, at 11 AM at McDowell Memorial Park. Thomas Elliott will officiate.
Mrs. Mary Jane Crain Hylemon
Mrs. Mary Jane Crain Hylemon, 95, of Autumn Care in Drexel died Saturday, November 8, 2003 at Autumn Care. Born September 13, 1908 in Yancey County she was the daughter of the late William Crain and Emily Elizabeth Edwards Crain. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Leslie Rass Hylemon; a brother and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Hylemon was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Faith.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a great great grandmother she is survived by: daughters Merzie Hylemon Mc Lain, Willeskie Hylemon Carswell and husband William Edward, Addie Hylemon Carswell and husband Rassie, Bettie Hylemon Rector all of Morganton; brother Mickey Hylemon of High Point; fourteen grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at the Friendly Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverend Daniel Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Robert Wayne Kelvy, Jr.
Robert Wayne Kelvy, Jr., 39, of Marion, died, Friday, Febuary 20, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Fort Dix, NJ to Sgt. First Class Robert Kelvy, Sr. US Army Retired and Heidi Wagner Kelvy, he was a Correctional Officer at Mitchell/Avery County Facility . He was also a Veteran of the US Army, a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do in Marion at the Max Baker School of Tae Kwan Do, and a member of the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. He is preceded in death by his brother, Russell F. Wagner.
In addition to his parents, he is also survived by one son, Robert Wayne Kelvy, III of the home; one daughter, Dana Theresa Kelvy (Cooper) of Marion; one maternal grandmother, Gertraude E. Wagner of Anaheim, CA; one sister, Ruth Ann Kelvy of Conyers, GA; one nephew, Nathan Antwan Kelvy of Conyers, GA; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held Monday, Febuary 23, 2004 at 3 o’clock at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, with Reverends Bruce Alkire and Keith Lee officiating. Burial will follow at the McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, Febuary 22, 2004 from 7p.m. until 9p.m. at Kirksey funeral home in Marion.
