Wilma Hope
GASTONIA - Mrs. Wilma Frances McDaniel Hope, 81, of 2755 Union Road, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Gaither and Ada Brown McDaniel. She retired from Gastonia Mutual Savings and Loan and belonged to First Baptist Church of Gastonia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Lloyd Hope Sr.; sisters, Allowee McDaniel Marlowe and Florine McDaniel Hill; and brothers, Atwood McDaniel and Dean McDaniel.
She is survived by a son, Christopher L. Hope Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Monroe; a special friend, John Anthony of Gastonia; a sister, Virginia McDaniel Arnette of Kings Mountain; a brother, Robert McDaniel and his wife, Wilma, of Columbia, S.C.; two grandchildren, Carrie Hargett of Wesley Chapel and Christopher Hope III of Weddington; and five great-grandchildren, Tricia Hope and Katie Hope of Waxhaw, Christen Hargett, Jackson Hargett and Jacob Hargett, all of Wesley Chapel.
A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery after the service.
Instead of flowers, the family requests memorials to First Baptist Church of Gastonia or the American Heart Association.

Elvin Barnette
HUNTERSVILLE - Mr. Elvin Ray Barnette, 93, of 13001 Old Statesville Road, formerly of Hickory and Lincolnton, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Huntersville Oaks.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Stamey Funeral Home of Fallston.
Nancy Kincaid
REIDSVILLE - Mrs. Nancy Chapmon Kincaid, 63, of 701 S. Main St., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2001, at her home.
Born in Reidsville, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Ellen Wells Chapmon. She had a bachelor of science degree from Central Wesleyan University and worked as a psychiatric social worker. She was appointed as liaison to state and private regional psychiatric hospitals for Western North Carolina. She belonged to Wentworth United Methodist Church, and served as secretary to the Western United Methodist Conference on Handicapping Conditions. She was the historian for Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society at Central Wesleyan University. She was also a member of the Reidsville Appearance Commission and the Wild Thyme Book Club.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. John J.P. Kincaid of the home; daughters, Kim Knight and her husband, Bev, of Reidsville, and Luzette Kincaid and her husband, James Stuber, of Canton; sons, James Clark Ross and his wife, Pamela, of Huntersville, and Dr. Joel Kincaid and his wife, Dr. Denise Rotondo, of Fruitland, Md.; stepdaughters, Yvonne Hogland of Decatur, Ala., and Diane Rice and her husband, Bill, of Colfax; stepsons, John Kincaid Jr., and his wife, Renee, of Greenville, S.C., and Stephen Kincaid of Leicester; brothers, Irvin Chapmon and his wife, Judy, of Reidsville, and Ronnie Chapmon and his wife, Mary, of Falls Church, Va.; grandchildren, Melia Knight, Evan Ross, Daniel Ross, Liam Kincaid, Trevor Kincaid, Zoe Stuber, Emma Stuber and Megan Stuber; stepgrandchildren, Seth Ross, Alex Rotondo, Christopher Rice, Brian Rice, Brandon Rice, Shawn Howell, Jessica Nelson, John Reid Kincaid, Anna Kincaid and Amanda Kincaid; and stepgrandchild, Emma Kincaid.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Wentworth United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville, and at other times at the home.

Marie Sanders
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Doris Marie Philbeck Sanders, 68, of 5006 Longbow Point, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at her home.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Arnold Buford and Madge Melton Philbeck. She attended Bethlehem Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edmond Sanders; a son, Doyle Edmond Sanders; and brothers, J.C. Philbeck and Buford Philbeck.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris S. and Wayne Lail of Kings Mountain and Juanita Dianne and Eddie Malcolm of Blacksburg, S.C.; three brothers, Jim Philbeck of Grover, Gene Philbeck of Shelby and G.C. Philbeck of Cherryville; a sister, Gertrude Knox of Grover; and three grandchildren, Charles Lail, Chris Lail and Chastity Thompson.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Revs. David Blanton, James Drennan and Jerry Helms officiating.
Burial will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Valdese City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.
Florence Powell
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Florence Powell, 83, of White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain, formerly of 1309 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at her residence.
Born in Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late J. Claude and Bessie Edwards Powell. She retired as an agent for Reserve Life Insurance Co. and belonged to Floyds Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol Bradley Hardin and her husband, Jack, of Polkville; a grandson, Michael Jack Hardin of Eatonton, Ga.; and two great-grandsons, Michael Bradley Hardin and Clifford Allen Hardin of McDonough, Ga.
A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Floyds Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Shane Kirby officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Cleveland Funeral Services. At other times, the family will be at 3443 Old Lincolnton Road, Shelby.

ASHEVILLE - Miss Bertie Lee Kendrick, 92, of WNC Baptist Retirement Home, formerly of Henrietta, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Rickman Nursing Center in Asheville.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Spencer Baptist Church, with the Rev. Billy Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in Spindale City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Edora Harris
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Edora Eller Harris, 93, of 311 S. Mulberry St., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Mecklenburg Health Care Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Cherryville, with the Revs. Kelley R. Jones, Jack H. Cooke and Robert M. Jack officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Florence S. Cook
CONNELLY SPRINGS - Mrs. Florence Smith Cook, 71, of 4150 Mount Gilead Church Road, died Jan. 7, 2002, at Frye Medical Center.
A native of Burke County, she was born March 17, 1930, the daughter of the late Pinkney "Pink" and Ella Buff Smith. She was a retired supervisor at Burke Mills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clemmie Alvin Cook; a son, Johnny Ray Cook; a daughter, Linda Jane Cook; two brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by two sons, David Cook of Morganton and Bobby Cook of Lawndale; a daughter, Brenda Smith of Connelly Springs; five brothers, Franklin Smith, Howard Smith, Ace Smith, Joe Smith and Reed Smith, all of Connelly Springs; four sisters, Sudie Falls of Glen Alpine, Mae Swink and Lucy Lail, both of Connelly Springs, and Iva Cook of Casar; a niece, Merle Tallent of Casar; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Keith Fulbright and Lloyd Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Olive Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Mary Lee Shear
GROVER - Mrs. Mary Lee Smith Shear, 69, of 101 Melvin Court, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002.
A native of Cherokee County, she was born Jan. 9, 1932, the daughter of the late Sam and Irene Hardin Smith. She was a housewife and a member of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the senior choir, Missionary Circle and was a Sunday school teacher and deaconess. She was a member of Electra Chapter No. 12 Order of Eastern Stars.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, L.K., T.J. and Sam Jr. and two brothers-in-law, Rob Brooks and Dick Pressley.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Amos Shear Sr.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Darnell Shear of the home; Joan S. Wilson of Shelby; Jean S. and Daryl Reid of Gastonia, Mary S. and Charles Accor Sr. of Kings Mountain and Slyvannah Wilson of Shelby; a son and daughter-in-law, Amos and Annie Shear Jr. of Shelby; four grandsons, Shannon Wilson, Jamie Shear, Brian Shear and Charles Accor Jr., and two granddaughters, Kenya Shear and Precola Wilson; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Amiree Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., Marjorie and James Benson of Cherryville, Sarah Pressley of Gastonia, Sinda and Nathan Rogers of Chesapeake, Va ., and Eva Brooks of Gastonia; four brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Bonny Smith, Leroy and Fannie Smith and Andrew Smith, all of Shelby, John R. Smith of Los Angeles, and Bessie R. Smith of Kings Mountain; a deacon, Joseph Lewis Sr.; grand-godchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Grover with the Rev. William Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.

'LOVEY' Everhardt
LAWNDALE - Ms. Ola Mae "Lovey" Everhardt, 83, of 2436 Ball Park Road, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at her home.
A native of Georgia, she lived in Lawndale for 50 years. She was a homemaker after retiring from Century Furniture in Hickory. She was a member of St. Mary's Marion Street Lodge No. 6 and White Oak Springs Baptist Church in Ellenboro.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Norsis Bland; her son, Robert Everhardt, and brother, Alvin B. Wilson.
She is survived by two nieces, Rita M. Miller and Lori A. Clemmons, both of Lawndale; two nephews, Alvin Butch Wilson of Charlotte and Larry Gene Wilson of Shelby; four great-great nieces, Tasha Wilson, Ayoka Wilson and LaToya Wilson, all of Shelby, Renada Dawkins of Charlotte; a great-great-nephew, Amari Brown of Charlotte, and relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at White Oak Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Pryor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.

Dessie Aldridge
BOSTIC - Mrs. Dessie Lee Morehead Aldridge, 83, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral is tonight at 6 at Harmon Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charlie Blackwell and Dr. Eddie Rape officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight in the church sanctuary after the service and at other times at the home of Kenneth and Kay Aldridge, 174 Eastview Drive in Bostic.
A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park.

Mitchell Clary
CARY - Mr. Mitchell E. Clary, 67, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at his home.
A native of Shelby, he graduated from North Carolina State University with honors in 1956. He served as an officer in the Air Force. He worked for the Soil and Water Conservation Service for more than 30 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Cary since 1973.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Kendrick Clary; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Mike Holshouser of Salisbury and Amy and Kevan Bytnar of Cary; and three grandchildren, Kevin, Sam and Lawson.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Cary. A graveside service will be Sunday in Boiling Springs.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home.
