Ray Noblitt
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Johnson Ray Noblitt, 74, of 905 Sherwood Lane, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Born in Old Fort, he was the son of the late Adolphus Johnson and Eula Mae Huskins Noblitt. He was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Spruce Pine. He was in World War II serving in the Navy. He attended N.C. State University and Berea College. He joined Martin Marietta as in engineer in Baltimore in 1950.
He also worked as a project manager over Engineering Design Services Laboratory for Bunker-Ramo until 1973, when he joined Kings Mountain Mica as executive vice president over sales and production coordination until he retired in 1978.
He was an outdoorsman, enjoying hiking and gardening. His interest ranged from training as a pilot to photography. He did portraits and commercial artwork and also worked with wood.With the onset of ALS, Ray became a genealogist.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Gunter Noblitt of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, John Gunter and Frances M. Noblitt of Charlotte; a daughter and son-in-law, Mindy and Emilio Acuna of Kings Mountain; a sister, Frances Renfro of Spruce Pine; and three grandchildren, Jessica Kandy, McKenzie Noblitt and Anne Marie Noblitt.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Myrtle Brown
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Myrtle Queen Jones Brown, 93, of Forest City, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at the Henderson Care Center.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen, with the Rev. Jim Sparks officiating. Entombment will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.
Harriet Parris
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Harriet Gidney Parris, 94, of 6920 Marching Duck Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born May 30, 1907, and was a daughter of the late Dr. Robert Many and Hattie Surratt Gidney.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Grover Parris; a sister, Mary Gidney Hoey; and a brother, Robert S. Gidney.
She was a graduate of Shelby City Schools and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She taught school for three years in Belmont and second or third grade at Shelby City Schools for the remainder of her career as a teacher. She taught 42 years and lived in Shelby until 1997 when she moved to Charlotte. She was a member of the Reviewers Book Club, the Round Dozen Bridge Club, Retired State Employees, Cleveland Country Club and Central United Methodist Church, where she taught primary children, was a member of United Methodist Women, the Horace Grigg Sunday School Class and worked on volunteer committees. After retirement she taught adults to read at Cleveland Community College.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann Parris and James Lynn Young of Charlotte; two grandsons, Andrew Parris Young and his wife, Courtauld McBryde Young, of Charlotte, and Edward Brett Young, living near London; a granddaughter, Julia Ann Young of Atlanta; and sisters, Elizabeth Gidney Webb and Elsie Gidney Eskridge of Shelby.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church. A private burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Cecil Burton Funeral Home in Shelby.

Zelma Alexander
GREER, S.C. - Mrs. Zelma Dixon Alexander, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at St. Francis Women's and Family Hospital in Greenville, S.C.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church. Burial will be in Graceland East Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wood Mortuary and other times at the home of Judy Montgomery, 32 Country Club Drive, Greer.

Rickey Britt
NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - Mr. Rickey E. "Hippie" Britt, 43, of North Fort Myers, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, in Gainsville, Fla.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Snipes officiating. The body will be cremated.
Harold Roark
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Harold Edward Roark, 63, of 710 Bridges Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at his residence.
He was a native o f Cherokee County, S.C., and son of the late Wayne M. Roark.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Kay Sipes Roark; and a son, Kenny Roark.
He was a former textile employee and served in the Army. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Grover.
He is survived by his mother, Thelma J. "Jay" Isler Roark of Grover; a son, Wayne J. Roark of Gaffney, S.C.; a daughter, Kathy Roark of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Don Roark of Kings Mountain, David Roark of Blacksburg, S.C., and Larry Roark of Grover; four grandchildren, Brandi Rae Roark, Tyler Farris, Kayle Farris and Brittany Short.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Ruby Edna Ramsey Lyles, 78, of 161 Amos Road, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Florence Powell, 83, of White Oak Manor, formerly of 1309 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at her residence.

Estelle Green
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Estelle Belton Tucker Green, 88, formerly of Blythewood, S.C., died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Century Care Nursing Home.
A native of Fairfield County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Sam and Anna Peay Belton. She retired from the State Hospital in Columbia, S.C., and was a life-long member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Ridgeway, S.C.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Tucker; her second husband, William Green; four brothers, Lee Belton, Les Belton, Marion Belton and James Belton; a sister and brother-in-law, Leathia and John Lawhorn; and a grandson, Darryl Keith Banks.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Julia Ann Tucker and David S. Banks Sr. of Shelby; a granddaughter, Cheryl R. Banks of Charlotte; a grandson, David S. Banks Jr. of Shelby; a great-grandson, David S. "Trey" Banks III of Shelby; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Ridgeway with the Rev. Melvin Syphrett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service in the sanctuary.

Syble Dillingham
BOILING SPRINGS - Mrs. Syble Kanipe Dillingham, 94, of West College Avenue, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Z.L. and Belle Laughridge Kanipe. She was retired from Cone Mills in Cliffside and was a charter member of Boiling Springs United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry M. Dillingham.
She is survived by two sons, Bobby Dillingham of Chesapeake, Va., and Clarence Dillingham of Inman, S.C.; four brothers, Clayton Kanipe of Dallas, N.C., Hoyle Kanipe of Ellenboro, the Rev. Joe Kanipe of Mooresboro and Eugene Kanipe of Mill Springs; a sister, Hessie Bowman of Boiling Springs; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Boiling Springs United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Parsons and the Rev. Joe Kanipe officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

Mitchell Clary
CARY - Mr. Mitchell E. Clary, 67, of 422 S. West St., died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late William Ellie and Kate Weaver Clary. He was employed by Soil and Water Conservation Service and served in the Air Force. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cary and graduated from NC State University with honors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Everette Clary and Horace Clary.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Kendrick Clary of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Mike Holshouser of Salisbury and Amy and Kevan Bytnar of Cary; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Katie Clary of Raleigh and Bob and Jeanette Clary of Shelby; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Carl Ray Bridges and Linda and Evans Lemons, all of Shelby; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Tim Trexler officiating.
