Eunice Walter
LOTHIAN, Md. - Mrs. Eunice A. Walter died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.
A native of Belwood, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Docia Peeler Hubbard. She was a graduate of Belwood High School and moved to Maryland during World War II. She was employed for 20 years as an information operator for the C&P Telephone Co. in Washington, D.C.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Walter, to whom she was married in 1947; and four brothers, Robert Hubbard, Charles Hubbard, J.A. Hubbard and Edward Hubbard; and a sister, Mary Porter.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Jo Walter of Lothian and Dawn D. Walter of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; a sister, Katherine Bowen of Shelby; a brother, Eugene Hubbard of Belwood; a grandson, Brian J. Reid; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Grace Brethren Church in Owings, Md.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, Md.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rausch Funeral Home in Owings.
Grady Burgess
FOREST CITY - Mr. Grady E. Burgess, 78, of 205 Butler Road, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Autumn Care Center of Forest City.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at The Padgett & King Mortuary, with the Revs. Boyce Gregory, Kevin Rohm and Thad Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Mount Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home.
Martha Blanton
SHELBY - Mrs. Martha Lola Cook Blanton, 91, of 411 Royster Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Ava Gardner
SHELBY - Mrs. Ava Cloud Gardner, 82, of 2542 Oak Grove Road, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The family will be at the home of Dean and Sheila Gardner, 2548 Oak Grove Road.

Gretel Anthony
SHELBY - Mrs. Gretel M. Anthony, 86, of 2201 Riverside Road, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Crawley Memorial Hospital in Boiling Springs.

Sue Dover
SHELBY - Mrs. Minnie Sue Haynes Dover, 80, formerly of 103 Dellinger Road, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Edgar and Etta Pruett Haynes. She was the former owner of Sue's Beauty Salon and a former secretary of Shelby Wood Preserving. She also worked in food service at James Love Elementary School in Shelby. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Hugh Dover; a brother, Clarence Haynes; and a sister, Mary H. Pruett.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie D. and Wayne Roberts of Cherryville and Robin D. and Tommy Burns Sr. of Shelby; a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Wayne and Evelyn Haynes of Lincolnton; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Raymond Lyles of Spindale, Mae Spillars of Ellerbe, and Evie Lee Jolly of Waco, Texas; five grandchildren, Richie and his wife, Kim Roberts, Hayley and her husband, Brandon Beane, Tommy Burns Jr., Emily Burns and Holly Burns; and two great grandchildren, Jade Williams and Mason Burns.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. Lawton Neely and Wayne Haynes officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Wayne and Stephanie Roberts at 128 Windy Hill Drive, Cherryville.

UNION MILLS - Mr. Woodrow Fountain, 86, of 290 Allyne Koon Road, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at his home.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Round Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Nelson Brooks, Don Brooks and Ben Parton officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Ruby Guffey
ELLENBORO - Miss Ruby Guffey, 88, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be today at 4 p.m. at Sandy Plains Baptist Church cemetery in New House with the Rev. Bill Troutman officiating.

Ben Grigg Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. Ben Warren Grigg Sr., 82, of 709 W. Oak St., died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Cleveland County, he retired from Celanese and was a member of Westview Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edley Frank and Nora Short Grigg; four brothers, Ralph Grigg, J.D. Grigg, Rass Grigg and Max Grigg; and a sister, Kate G. Cornwell.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Hamrick Grigg of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra G. and A.L. Parrish III of Hampton, Va.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ben Warren Jr. and Kathryn W. Grigg of Shelby and Stephen Craig Grigg of New York City; two grandsons, Bradford W. Grigg and his wife, Kristy, of Shelby and Brett W. Grigg of Nebo; a great-granddaughter, Lauren Grigg of Shelby; a great-grandson, Caleb Grigg of Shelby; and a brother and sister-in-law, Hal W. and Joan Grigg of Shelby.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Services, with the Rev. Mike Shumate officiating. Family friends John Bill Rudisill and Mark Tuttle will also speak. Burial will be in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends Thursday.

Blanch Bolick
SHELBY - Mr. Blanch "Bill" Ray Bolick, 76, of 605 Sanders Road, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002.
He was the son of the late John and Essie Towery Bolick. He was employed at Esther Mills for 46 years and served in the Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Mae Powell Bolick; four brothers, Kenneth Bolick, Bob Bolick, Jack Bolick and Ralph Bolick; a sister, Maybell Hughes; and a great grandson, Thomas Chandler Deviney.
He is survived by five sons, Ray Bolick of Kings Mountain, Larry and Mike Bolick, both of Salisbury, Gene Bolick of Rutherfordton, and Scott Bolick of Shelby; three daughters, Libby Wix Rollen of Fort Myers, Fla., Patsy Laughter of Rutherfordton, and Tina Aker of Lincolnton; two brothers, Jim Bolick and June Bolick; three sisters, Etta Taylor, Mary Simpson, and Annie Bolick Campbell; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lutz-Austell Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul White officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Fallston.
The family will receive friends Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gary Adams
GROVER - Mr. Gary Clifford "Red" Adams, 50, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Sept. 11, 1951, the son of Ms. Sue Francis Adams of Kings Mountain. He served in the Army for three years.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of three years, Debra Banks Adams; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary C. Adams Jr. of Columbus, Ga. and Clifford D. and Sheronda Banks of Gastonia; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kimberly Ross of Lincolnton and Lashonda Burkes and her husband of Columbus; 10 grandchildren; two goddaughters, TyKeela and TyKeria Ussery; a great-nephew, Shantez C. Banks; nieces, nephews; relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Walls Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Nathaniel Craig officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and other times at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Freda B. Hopper, 207 Ross Grove Church Road in Shelby.

Amos Pruitt
FALLSTON - Mr. Amos Pruitt, 90, of 100 Pruitt St., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at White Oak Manor.
Born Sept. 10, 1911, in Burke County, he was a son of the late Joseph Hartwell and Fannie Buff Pruitt. He was a retired road crewman with the NC State Highway Department. He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Denton Pruitt; a brother, David Harrison Pruitt; and a sister, Margaret Pruitt.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim Pruitt of Fallston, Fred and Sabrina Pruitt of High Point and Forrest and Darlene Pruitt of Havelock; two nephews, Ricky Pruitt and Tommy Pruitt, both of Shelby; a sister, Sue Teseneer of Shelby; seven grandchildren, R. Lyndon Pruitt, Wanda P. Long, Forrest Pruitt Jr., Anthony Pruitt, Christopher Pruitt, Samuel Pruitt and Tommy Pruitt; and five great-grandchildren, James Long, Derrick Long, Savannah Pruitt, Siera Pruitt and McKynsie Pruitt.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m at Big Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Buff officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

CAROLEEN - Mr. Hoyle Leonard Allred, 96, of Middle Street, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Oak Grove Healthcare in Rutherfordton.
A native of McDowell County, he was the son of the late J.O. and Martha Rumfelt Allred. He was a retired textile employee and a member of Caroleen Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Daves Allred.
He is survived by a son, Jerry Allred of Lattimore; three daughters, Vember Quinn and Opal Lowery, both of Caroleen, and Roselia Nanney of Boiling Springs; five sisters, Elsie Allred, Ellen Harris and Inez Ramsey, all of Caroleen, Gladys Hardin of Ellenboro and Ella Mae Holtsclaw of Hickory; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Caroleen Baptist Church with the Revs. Trey Gilliam and Charlie Blackwell officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Mooresboro.
